It took a day, but the NFL finally found out that Coach Mike Holmgren said a few choice words about the Super Bowl officiating during Monday's rally. So now the league says it's going to "definitely look into" the incident. Do you think the league will fine him? Is it that detached from reality? 37 Comments |
I think the league will fine him, but its no big deal. On his way out of the stadium I heard Paul Allen tell Holmgren, "Dont worry big guy, I'll pick up the tab for this one."
The money is no big deal, but it's the fact of adding insult to injury. The refs screwed up, Holmgren says so and he gets fined for straying outside the NFL's little corporate PR guidelines. It makes the NFL look like idiots. But, I'm afraid, only here in the Northwest.
I believe That NFL (whom can't take ''any'' kind of negetive comments ) Will fine coach Holmgren but who cares NFL SCREWED UP' Big time in the super bowl& they should be told so" NFL YOU SCREW UP GENTLEMEN!IF YOU DON'TLIKE IT WELL TOUGH!
Well everyone knows that he will be fined. Its just messed up that it took him saying that for everyone to wake up and realize that hey something wasnet right during that game. I mean even when The STEELERS are admiting that the calls were wrong, and a couple of THEIR touchdowns SHOULDNT have been given to them, because they know that they didnt make them. Then something was wrong, Come on now. Everyone knows that they tropyh belongs to the seahawks fair and square. Yeah we made a couple mistakes on our own but we played the better game. Great way to ruin a great game refs...
I'd like to know just where the accountability is for referees that screw up. Why is the NFL always after the players and coaches? These guys that make these crappy calls NEVER have to answer to anybody. I think the fans need to start pressuring the NFL to clear up this crap. A statement by the NFL saying that the officiating was done properly is like your 2 year old saying he didn't get in the cookie jar and having the last say. What a load of....!
I think Coach Holmgren's words are supported by the majority of viewers, look at all the polls. I think if the league fines Holmgren it puts more fuel on the fire. Look at what Joey Porter said after they beat the Colts. The NFL announced that he would not be fined and his comments were much sharper than those of the Coach.
1- On Jackson's alleged TD catch, don't watch him - watch the defender. Note the defender going to the right just as he was "touched" by Jackson who subsequently went left. The call was correct.
2- On the hold, again, witness the arm around the Steeler defender - not the Seahawk.
3- Defense? We gave up a record TD run, and got burned on a trick play that EVERYONE knew that the Steelers ran.
4- We didn't get to the Super Bowl by whining about every call that didn't go our way.
And Holmgren's attitude doesn't help our image.
We made too many mistakes. We lost. Get over it.
Still crying??? This city has enough wet rainy weather. The city doesn't need tears running down the streets also. Put down the tissue you're crying in and just take the loss. You're embarrassing yourselves. Like I said yesterday. The team and the coach were so worried about the calls (which were correct if you know anything about the rules) that they forgot about trying to get the few points back at the beginning of the second half to get back in the game. Coach Holmgren's antics at the end of the first half with the refs proves that the team was too busy sniveling already and not looking at the way to get back in it. Which would have been easier if so many mistakes weren't made by the Seattle players. Your first super bowl/loss and you're acting like you should be handed a win. The players lost it not the refs. Get over it. There are other citys that have lost super bowls (some more than one). And others that haven't been there yet. Can you please be quiet????
not only should holmgren be fined heavily for questioning the integrity of the game, he should be removed from the competition committee, and he should be called into the league office and given a reality check. he got out coached. he managed the game horribly. the refs were good. stop whining.
Get a life, b. By the way do you have a real name or too much of a coward to reveal? You have been on this blog all day badmouthing and trying to defend your point on shaky ground. I think your guilty conscience have spoken to you but you are too stubborn to admit it and trying to convince yourself otherwise. People from all over across the nation with a conscience and intelligence are speaking up against the blatant obvious bias, one-sided offiating and possible fraud against the Seahawks. There is not much you can do to change the truth.
You people will have to say that the Steelers were the better team. you guys ball about bad calls, I will bet not one of you mentioned the missed penalty when Ben thru the interseption and was running to make the tackle and was blasted in the back. Yea I know, nobody saw that !!!!!! When they review the films they saw the tip of the ball broke the plain of the white line before he got pushed back. Face it, the game was good, alot of calls were missed on both sides, but you have to be strong enough to admit that.
Two wrongs will make one right. Fine him !
I don't believe in 'poor officiating' one bit. With the power and money of the NFL they could correct 'poor officiating' in a hurry if they lose fans by the thousands and the bottomline suffers. The fact is it doesn't, not yet anyway. The so called 'poor officiating' is just one cover NFL use to influence the outcome of a game. The refs are there to do the necessary dirty work and they are untouchables. In the case of Super Bowl XL it was obvious.
I still stand behind Mike Holmgren's comments one hundred percent. I think it sucks that he will more than likely be fined. As I said before, whatever happened to freedom of speech? Oh, that's right, a football player can rip the officials and get off scot free (wouldn't want to put a dent in his multimillion dollar salary), but a head coach can't do the same. What hypocrisy!
This has been an eyeopener of a week. Lots of mistakes being made here. I've learned that the NFL seems to be slighlty less legitimate than the WWE, sportswise. I'm not pissed about it, just philosophical. If you are going to make this a script, be less obvious.
In that spirit, I've got to say that the NFL really needs to come up with better storylines. Jerome Bettis, Detroit native back in Detroit was pretty dull compared to say...Indianapolis's tale of near perfection and the comeback after the personal setbacks Tony Dungy suffered would have been much more uplifitng than what we saw Sunday.
Granted, the 12th Man Seattle story didn't play over well in the national media and somebody had to be the bad guy in this "morality play" so it might as well been Seattle. Fans of the Hawks (which I am included) should have been clued in when Texas A&M tried to sue the Hawks. The only drama this will produce is Seattle will now cop a major additude and if this produces a Classic Raider-Like team that just smacks people around because they are Seahawks so much the better. Let's play the heel to the hilt.
The only thing I can think of doing now is embracing the scam. Let's think of some clever storylines that can happen next year's Superbowl and then mail them into the NFL. It's the best we can do at the moment until Paul Tagliabue leaves and we can get a professional at this sort of thing (like Vince McMahon) in. ^__^
Hey Dave, (Obviously a Pittsburgh fan) Interseption is spelled interception!, and Plain is spelled Plane! do you people go to school back there! Pittsburgh. As far as the so called block in the back to your precious quarterback, Wow we got one back for that stupid call on Hasselback.
Go STEALERS!!!
hey seacrock take it easy man before you blo a gasget, you should be sitting back enjoying pitts sb win. its not to often you get a freebee, hey doesnt one or more of those refs reside in pitt, hmmm thats a no brainer!!!!!!!
it would be just like the NFL to levy a fine on Holmgren - it would be like the last shovel of dirt covering up a grave - to all you jerks who are saying we SEAHAWKS fans need to get over it / we ll get over it when we damb well want too and if you dont like it , go to another blog or stick your STEALER head back in a mine shaft / and you seacroc, you pathetic piss ant , take your meds - Texas A n M / howz the lawsuit going ? THE SEAHAWK NATION WILL RISE AGAIN - with the 12th MAN louder than ever !
Hey Seacrocks,
Thanks for that post, we learned your education level and IQ so we can just ignore anything you have to say from now on. Isn't it almost time for recess over there in Pittsburgh?
You know, Seacrock, I find it funny that you have the GALL to call us Seahawks fans classless, tell us that we're a bunch of peabrained idiots, ad nauseum, when you yourself have no room to talk. I could sit here and call you a bunch of names, but I won't allow myself to stoop to your level.
Hey Brian - i ll stoop that low for ya - seacrotch is a moron , a pityful little pathetic loser in life - this type of piss ant needs a good dose of agent orange - he s like a boil on his own ass that just festers up and runs down his leg - his mouth runs the same way - these losers never have anything to say worth listening too - they dont know football - they should be asigned someone to make sure they take their meds - he sounds like a guy who likes animals dont cha think - seacrotch, go away , you re drawing flies ....
hey seacrotch i bet you are stealer fan, you just wont admit it,because your a little scum sucking cockroach, that doesnt have b@lls enough! we may have lost the SB, but you are the real pathetic looooser!!!!
I second that Cedric, we should fit him with a pair of cement shoes and throw him in the Puget Sound.
Seacrotch, who is your team? We want to understand why you cry so much. If it is not the Steelers or the Seahawks than who is it? In any case than do you have room to talk? Your team wasn't in the Super Bowl now was it.
Said it before, say it again - It would the the height of hypocrisy for the NFL to fine coach Holmgren for comments made in jest, given the comments of Joey "Blowhard" Porter a few weeks earlier after their playoff game against Indianapolis. Either hypocrisy, or really showing what the NFL became over the past 2+ weeks with the Stealer-Bettis-Detroit lovefest.
Bitter? Nah!
Hey hawkfan - my last post about him wasnt even permitted on the blog - guess i better clean it up - GO SEAHAWKS - wait till next year
Holmgren's a whiner and a loser. His crying after the game and at half-time prove it. Seattle will never win the big one with him.
Holgren will not take the Hawks to the promiss land.
He may lead them there, but he is not alowed to enter.
The refs will never let it happen.
He whines and cries too much for a football coach.
Hey hawkno- obviously you will never know how it feels to lose a super bowl as a head coach, or a player -now will you! this game was decided be for it even started. replay the game strait up with out bias officials, sehawks 31 steelers 17
The officials did'nt make any mistakes,so I guess Mike Holgren did'nt either!
I think its wrong for the NFL to fine a coach for having an opinion. Mike Holmgren only speaks the truth when he defines the biased performance of the officials of Super Bowl XL.
The officiating of the worlds greatest sports league is substandard in that the Super Bowl is not the only game in which this has shown its ugly head. I think the NFL should fine the referee's for every incorrect call they make in every game. If they do that, I think the games in the future will be decided by the player"s and not the biased officials.

This game was absurd! I would never want the Seahawks to a the Super Bowl the same way the Steelers did, I would be too embarrassed. For all the Steelers fans that think you out played us, We controlled time, yards and turnovers. Also held you to 3 consecutive three and outs on your first 3 possesions. The whole nation thinks it was a scam not just seahawks fans. The officials really took the momentum from us. John Madden, Al Michaels, Steve Young, Troy Aikmen, and a host of others are calling this a travesty and out right robbery. This includes Skip Bayless, The guy who absolutly hates the idea that the "Seafrauds" (as he calls them) were even in the Super Bowl, that was hardly "super", unless you put "pile of crap" behind it. "Big Ben" said on David Letterman that he didn't think that was a touchdown he made. Hienz Ward said on ESPN that it was a questionable call on D. Jack's TD catch and that he has made touchdowns in similar a fashion. Joey Porter even said it was unfourtunate about the calls. Sure the game is over, and nothing can change that now, however the NFL needs to think about what they are doing to the sport. How can you have an official from a city that is playing and not have one from the other? Then try to say it is not biased? What a crock! I hope they get this thing they called the NFL fixed, oh yeah, it already is "fixed", I mean repaired!
I heard on KJR radio last nite that the ref who threw the flag for pushing off in the endzone was Bob Wagner of Pittsburgh - it took a touch down away from the Seahawks - i wonder how the game would have gone if the Seahawks would have had Seattle ref s - now THAT ! seems real unfair to me - what the hell ? tell me again that we werent hosed by the ref s - and i was almost over it too - that takes the cake !
To All Steelers Fans and Hawk Haters,
Thank you all for your versions of reality and megalomania. It has been cathartic, antiseptic, analgesic, entertaining and refreshing. I think it is time we move on and focus our attention and energy on supporting our olympiads and the US in the Olympics. See you on the grid-iron in September.
The cry of the Seahawk "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"
There is a lot of mean spirited discussion here that is pretty tasteless. I am a Seahawk fan and I am irritated about the outcome of the game, but I still respect the Steelers and most of their fans. It was pretty obvious to me (Seahawk fan or not) that the game was pre-determined from the start. That is not to say that we would have won if the game was officiated differently (we would have definately seen a different score.. and the Seahawks momentum would have been different). Both teams deserved to be there. I am proud of the way the Seahawks played as well..
That said... I think that since there is so much controversy regarding the officiating of the game that it should be investigated. I know it won't affect the outcome of the game, but at least it could make the NFL aware of shortcomings and keep the "bias" from impacting future games.
Thanks for the chance to vent!
Tracy, and all other fans- the game was not fixed. stop saying this bullshit. whether or not certain calls were blown or not is debatable, but the game wasn't fixed. do you seriously lack that much common sense?
