Huge, absolutely huge. There’s no event like it. Just as we’re launching to the Olympics, the Seahawks bring the thrill of a Super Bowl to all of us. Lucky thing we have more than one “kitchen sink” for our Detroit crew, because we already sent everything including - the other - kitchen sink to Torino. The scale of the Super Bowl is immense. The crush of media and logistics easily surpasses other events we may remember around these parts - the APEC summit (with 18 world leaders), W.T.O. and yes, even the MLB All-Star Game at Safeco Field in 2001. Immense, but it leaves you in awe.... The domestic satellite compound at Ford Field in Detroit alone has been setup for 38 SNG uplink trucks and there's a 280’ long platform for “standups” (that’s room for more than 70 reporters standing side-by-side going live at one time). Across the street, the network broadcast compound is another 50 percent larger with all the equipment and production trailers for the live production feed of the game itself. There are another dozen satellite trucks away from the stadium roaming around greater Detroit, at the team hotels and media center. The Olympics and Super Bowl are each amazing in their own way. The live broadcast facilities and news setup at the Olympics is enormous and it is spread across many venues throughout Torino and the mountain areas – not an easy undertaking. By contrast, in Detroit, almost all the activity focuses to one spot on the map. All the telephone, data, video, audio, and electrical – at Ford Field – and all that energy ultimately focuses down on one 60 minute football game. As Cory said in an earlier posting, the logistics – both physical and from news planning are “super” complex. Enough… off to put more “super” pieces in place before getting on the plane for Italy in just a couple of days – I do have my Seahawk gear packed and we’ll have our own 12th man contingent ready to go hoarse cheering the Hawks from Torino. 3 Comments |
Go Hawks and Apollo Ohno
yes indeed, i concur.
You would think that at something as important as the Super Bowl the NFL could of had some ref's that were as experienced as the players......the ref's took the Super Bowl away from the Seattle Seahawks ...it was embarrassing….we got so upset we stopped watching the game and listened on the radio…..I’ll bet the sponsors would love to hear that and actually we found that most of our friends and family did and felt the same way!!!!!!! The NFL should be ashamed of what happened last weekend….if they aren’t than something is wrong!!!!
