Showing your Seahawks colors

I have to say I was surprised after I walked around Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood on Sunday afternoon and saw just three -- only three -- people wearing Seahawks gear. Really, now. That's pathetic. In Pittsburgh, I guarantee it's a different story. (But perhaps Alderwood was just a freak convergence of non-fans. KING 5 News Director Pat Costello said a theater in Issaquah was packed with Hawks colors over the weekend.) I know not many people have Hawks gear (but tons of Mariners stuff, eh?), but it's time to get excited and show some support.

Hey Cory .... this is the same tripe we hear from the pits/burg fans - dont worry yourself about it - we re like a big ambush waiting to happen - inside every one of us fans is an excitement building and will just boil over come Sunday - we dont want to punch ourselves out before the fight starts ya know - everywhere i go , i hear a quiet confidence building and building and EVERYBODY around these parts are excited to the brim - Its gonna be JUST fine / wait n see ! GO SEATTLE SEAHAWKS !

I think what's going on is that everyone only has one (or two at the most)Seahawks shirts/jerseys and unless we want to wash them every single day (which is what my son would like to have me do for him, ha), we're waiting to wear them on the BIG DAY - I know we've tried to go buy more Seahawks gear and everyone is completely sold out - so hopefully next year when we do this all over again, we'll all have more variety in our Seahawks wardrobe if the retailers in our area stock up more. We're all new to this, so just give us time -

    GO HAWKS!!!!

I'll give you credit Corey, we here in Pittsburgh have heard simular stories about Seattle fans. That's why we're having so much fun with these blogs. It's easy to get onto a computer and say you're a fan and respond with hostility. But we here in Pittsburgh dress in black and gold. We hang Steeler flags (next to an American flag) from our houses, fly them from our car windows. Anywhere you go, to the food store, clothing store or at work, you're going to see Steeler banners and colors. Our pep rally was during rush hour on a weekday and we still had twice as many fans show up than Seattle did.
Pittsburgh fans are die hard, we've been here through the thick and thin. But is seems that your fans are more 'Fair weather'.

Don't worry about it. we're going to rush in an swarm the city in blue and green...similar to how we're gonna do to the steelers. The reason that you don't see the same things here as you do in pittsburgh is because we all have jobs, like real grown ups. It's nice that all of you nasty, overweight, sweaty, dirty, unemployed people can all get together during your so called rush hour in your stadium, we here in Seattle, a white collar town, have jobs and live lives. On the weekend, you can't go anywhere without seeing at least 1 in 5 people wearing something seahawks related. I went to Muckleshoot Casino on Sunday afternoon for brunch, and along the way, I saw 3 stands on Auburn Way that were packed with people, buying seahawks merchandise. Also, I would be obnoxious about my team if I was deathly afraid of what was going to going to happen in the Super Bowl too. We here in seattle have a quiet confidince. You guys are nothin. Just like Washinton and Carolina. You're loving the headlines and attention that you're getting from the media, but we'll see if you love the attention and pain that you are going to get from the Hawks. Please believe that your statue QB and your fat ass, so-called running back...more like trotting back because he's so slow are going to be destroyed. Bettis in his hometown. I love it. We're going to blast the smile off of that little wannabe receiver's face. We might even pull what's his butt's hair right out of his helmet. Best of luck to you dummies. I think that all you can wear is the black because all the smoke from your plants and mills will stain all of your sunday best. Oh well, maybe you'll decide to move to a real city and relocate to philly.

This is just ridiculous. The Seahawks have had the 12th Man for how many years now, having retired the jersey years and years and years ago. Why all of a sudden now does Texas A&M worry about it? They weren't worried then. They are not entitled to it. WE ARE!!!!!!!!!

I live in Texas and I am extremely upset about and embarrassed by the actions of Texas A&M. I wish I could personally apologize to each and every Seahawks fan on behalf of real Texans who would never consider doing this to your team. Please don't hate all of Texas...but feel free to say WHATEVER you want about PODUNK COLLEGE STATION!!! AGGIE FREAKIN' LOSERS!

It's my understanding that their "patent" specifically states that the "12th Man" logo cannot be used intercollegically, not professionally. At least that was what was reported the other day. Can someone clarify this? And what jurisdiction does a Texas Court have over a Seattle football team?

Texas A&M has every right to copyright THERE logo, I have never heard Seattle use that until now that they are winning, it started in Texas look it up!!! So keep it in Texas and quit trying to use a logo that is not yours Now the Seahawks want to use it. I am from Texas and the people in Seattle have said some pretty bad things about Texas, but hey admit it you stole the logo. That is like saying Hook em' Seahawks, you just cant do it!!! And quit trying to say we are making such a big deal, when you know fair and well if Texas tried to use something from Seattle, which they NEVER will the people in Seattle would be in an uproar, so get over it, stop using our logo and get your own!!!

    Cory,

Why play the Mariners vs. the Seahawks with that one line in your entry which questions why people in this area might wear Mariner gear?

    don't be an ass.

All of a sudden SEAHAWKS make it to the SUPERBOWL and it seems like texas A&M is trying to cash in on the seahawks success. We've been using the "12th man" for approximately 20 years. Why is it now an issue? If texan's want there 5 seconds of fame, they can sign up for the Jerry Springer Show. GO HAWKS!

I think this whole thing is ridiculous, but if Texas wants to cause so much trouble over this why don't the Seattle Seahawks just use the term, "12th FAN". I'm sure they couldn't say a word about that, and that's what they are,,,,,FANS......Just my opinion. And it will keep Seattle out of the courts just before the Superbowl.

My vote is to change our term to "12th PLAYER" and then let the A&M kids spend their time in the courthouse while we're partying and cheering on our main men. GO HAWKS!

Try reading your "rules before posting" #5 says NO STEALING. Maybe Seattle should pick on a state more it's size......like Rhode Island. DON"T MESS WITH TEXAS!

I think everyone needs to tone it down a little bit and look at the facts here. First, the Seattle Seahawks organization holds no trademarks on the "12th Man." Texas A&M holds two. Second, the earliest documented claim they make on their 12th Man is 1984. Texas A&M can document the heritage of their tradition to 1922 (see website http://aggietraditions.tamu.edu/12thman.shtml). That is not a "claim," as some have alleged, it is a factual date. Third, Texas A&M is now suing because they have asked the Seahawks organization (a for-profit business venture) twice to cease and desist profiting from the sale of this illegal merchandise outside of the courts. Both respectful requests were rather flagrantly ignored. TAMU must now take legal action under established court precedent because the Seahawks are continuing to profit from selling this material. When they sell it, they line their own pockets and the pockets of their millionaire players and owners. Little is returned to the community. When Texas A&M sells their federally trademarked 12th Man merchandise, the profits go back into the university, a world-class public insitution, to help fund a quality education for thousands of Texan, American, and international students each year. Fourth, Texas A&M is the 4th largest university in America, has one of the largest university systems and endowments in the nation and is the oldest school in the entire state. It seems an entirely baseless accusation to say that they are "seeking publicity." With over 250,000 Former Students and 45,000 current students, I highly doubt publicity and name recognition are factors for them. Fifth, to answer the question posed in a previous posting, TAMU would have to file a suit in the 85th District Court in Texas because that is the district the university is located in. Those are the rules. Sixth, TAMU is merely defending the rights that any other trademark holder would if another entity were even close to treading on ideas they have a legal right to claim under federal law. Seventh, in a previous posting, one "Texan" claimed to be "embarrassed by the actions of Texas A&M" and wanted to apologize on the behalf of "real Texans" for the "Aggie Freakin' Losers." Given their obvious hostility to Texas A&M, the true "university of texas," it is clear that they are either fans of t.u., t.u. alumni, or residents of Austin. The fact is that all "real Texans" know that Austin is not like the rest of the state (google the phrase "keep Austin weird") and therefore a resident from there, or student of the large university there, would be hard-pressed to prove they are in touch with Texans as a whole. Additionally, I know that everyone is emotionally wrapped up in the competitive spirit of the Super Bowl, but that is no reason to go distorting the facts and insulting Texas A&M or the State of Texas. That's mere school-yard slander and it is really quite irrelevant. The final fact I mention is this: Texas A&M, the Former Students of TAMU, and fans of Aggie football everywhere have been nothing but respectful throughout this entirely preventable process. However, judging from reading the blogs posted here by Seahawk fans, the articles written by Mr. Bergman, and the general attitude of the debate surrounding this issue on this website, it seems irrefutable that immature and unoriginal thought will be the hallmark of this discussion on Seattle's end. It is truly a disservice to your community that some among you would stoop to these low levels and seek to sully the name of a fine institution and a fine state for merely requesting that two federally issued trademarks be protected. I say we let the legal system be the decider here since the facts are so plain. Reign in your emotions and direct them toward your real adversaries, the Steelers. I can respect the emotional attachment you may have for your excellent football team, but I cannot respect or abide by your unfounded and baseless attacks against my alma mater and my home state. To those would would still persist in this foolishness, you only further the opinion held by defenders of the Aggie Spirit that what the Seahawks are promoting is not a 12th Man, but rather a "12th Sham." Unfortunately, they are using their fans and hiding behind the emotions that surround the Super Bowl. The fact is, like any corporation, their bottom line is profit margin. It is now clear that they will tread on any hallowed ground increase theirs. TAMU is not treading on your 22 years of tradition, rather defending the 84 years worth of their fans' loyalty. (To those who will inevitably retort that Aggies are just bitter about the Longhorn's recent Rose Bowl victory and national title, I can respond only that everyone loves a winner because it is the easy thing to do. True fans love their team through thick and thin, up or down, fold or flush. There is a reason that the most attended sporting event ever in the State of Texas was the Aggies victory over Texas on November 23, 2001 at Kyle Field.)

I'm a texan and I think that A&M is being stupid. And you with the Don't mess with Texas...dummy what does that mean....should people say keep Washington green. Dummy...Texas is messing with Seattle. Get your mind right.

    GO HAWKS!!

I've only seen the 12th man commented on in the media. All I've seen from the Seahawks organization is the number 12. Which they say they've designated for the fans. Just a number. All "official" seahawk merchandise only references the number. The flag only has a number on it, the jersey's only have a number on it, with a name "fan". I have not seen any other use of it in an official team use other than the use of the number and it's special meaning to the fan. They are not specifically saying "12th Man" on anything. The media brought that on. A number can't be trademarked.

How about A&M win a couple games and maybe even beat Texas once every decade and then they can at least talk, notice I said talk not wine like they constantly do.

Sorry Zac, that's not even what the blog is about. But, since you bring it up, Texas A&M did beat Texas in the last decade. So, I guess we can talk again. Thanks. And I don't even know what "REAL TEXAN" is saying above, but that's not even english. Now you're just making Texans look bad. Good news is: Court order has put a 14 day injunction on the Seahawks organization until this whole mess can get sorted out. Maybe now all of you can take a breath and calm down. Enjoy the Super Bowl!

Ok fine The 12th Man is out What About "THE 12TH HAWK" That works for me How about you

oh please, i'll say i invented pizza too. and maynaise. also i invented boloni. so if you eat these things i'm going to whine and moan about how it's my registered trade mark

Getting back to the subject at hand, which is "Showing your Seahawk colors", I will be wearing the Seahawks colors with pride on Sunday. My wife got me an NFC Champions hat with the Seahawks logo on it which I have been wearing everywhere I go (except to work). While I don't have a lot of shirts and stuff with the new Seahawks colors and logo on them (I have two jerseys and the hat), I do have shirts and a coat with the old-school colors and logo on them. Either way, I will be rooting for the 'Hawks to kick the living sh*t out of the Steelers!

    DETROIT HAWK CITY, BABY!!!!!!!!!!

GO SEAHAWKS, AND BRING THAT TROPHY HOME!!!!!!
