Seahawks favored by national sports fans

10:57 AM Wed, Jan 18, 2006 |

Looking at a poll of ESPN.com fans, they are picking the Seahawks to win and a majority of voters, (56.6% at last look), said they'd prefer to watch the Seahawks in the Superbowl over Carolina. The vast majority also have faith that Shaun Alexander will play and be effective in the game.
What's your prediction?

Whether the hawks win or lose, this has been OUR year. Never before has a team overcome so many setbacks to rise to greatness. We are 4 quarters away from the history books, do you really think it can happen?....I do because I never give up on the hawks. Never! Carolina is very good, thats why they have a chance to go to the big chimichanga. Respect Aside, the offense will not be denied and the d will get national attention once we win.
Alexander with 3 td's in a home field rout 38-17

STAN said:

I am tired of the national media not giving the seahawks the respect they deserve. I think after sundays game it will be different.

Stephen said:

Stan, I don't know what you're talking about. There has been all sorts of respect given the Seahawks in the national media in the last couple weeks... especially since the Redskins. Today at ESPN.com there's a long article about our effective offense, for example.

Most who put the Seahawks down are those about to play us and that's only trash talk.

Seahawk Sam said:

I can see why the Seahawks are being favored in going to the Super Bowl over Carolina. First, they have never been in it and have been in the league longer, second, Carolina has the ugliest uniforms in the league with the hideous baby blue, third we have the MVP in Shaun Alexander.
The Seahawks also have the best fans in the NFL!!!! Go Hawks!!!!

Chawkfreak said:

This week hasn't been as fun, The redskin fans were rude. Carolina is too polite.

Go Hawks!!!

Dave said:

Why are the hawks going to wait so long to resign Alexander? It seems they are taking too big of a chance on waiting so long.....What if another team offers him a much better deal?

Ripley said:

Argh! Odds for the Seahawks started at 4.5 for the game, dipped to 4 and now are settling at 3.5. I can't take it anymore! No more! Let's play the damn game and get this over with! http://scores.seattletimes.nwsource.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=seatimes&page=nFl/odds/odds.aspx?sc=AB,p=1,date=

Favored? By Vegas, yes, but all but one of the NFL experts on ESPN have called for a Carolina victory. The guys over at cbs sportsline are calling for a Carolina victory, and the fox sports guys... calling for a Carolina victory. I can only find 2 out of over 20 nfl "experts" from the national media that are picking the Seahawks.

Last night on PTI they blasted the Seahawks and favored Carolina in EVERY category! I hope the Seahawks are reading and watching all the b.s. they are getting from the national press. I would rather they be under appreciated and under respected again this week, as it's just creates even more motivation to stick it to 'em!

DOUG said:

How terrible is Chicago's offense? And look how many points they put up against Carolina. The Hawks are going to be more than fine. Our defense is playing so well and has great momentum going into this game, especially with our crowd, the loudest in all of the NFL. If you ask me Carolina is in trouble. We all know they are going to try and stop the run, but after last week our offense has something to prove. Look for Shaun to have 174 yards and 3 TD's in a blowout 35-10. Detroit here we come!!!!

Dean from Seattle said:

Seattle will win hands down with or without Locklear and Alexander. Too easy.

Ripley said:

Well, I'd pick Vegas odds over an ESPN "expert" any day of the week. Check the spread versus the outcome this year, for all of the previous Seahawks' games. Then check the "NFL" experts' picks. The so-called experts favor the flavor of the week. Vegas doesn't. Too bad we all didn't pick the Steelers, tho.

Brian from Tri-Cities said:

Let the sportswriters keep flapping their gums about how the Panthers are better than the Seahawks, blah, blah, blah. They'll be sitting there in their chairs with nothing left to say come Sunday night when the Seahawks win the title game and go to the Super Bowl!!!!

GO SEAHAWKS!!!!!!!

Tyler said:

On HBOs football show only Dan Marino picked Carolina. The other three said Seattle would win.
A lot of it has to do with the fact that Foster is out. Withour the run, Seahawks double team Smith, which is Carolinas only offensive threat and win easily. 27-13

Richard said:

I actually haven't seen the Carolina bias I thought I would. Most of what I read says the Hawks will win.

Ken said:

I'm not sure why y'all are saying the Hawks will win "Easily" have you not seen this Carolina team? They have won 2 great games, on the road, the past 2 weeks! I understand that Foster is out, and Peppers is hurting, but with Lucas in there, Jake and Goeings, its **NOT** gonna be "EASY". I liked the point above by, I believe it was, Tony. He mentioned how weak the Bears offense has been, and yet they put up teh points vs the Panthers. Everyone knows that the Seattle offense is MUCH, MUCH better than the Bears, and even Bears fans will tell you that. With that said I see the Hawks winning by 3-7 points only. I see it like a 24-21 game, with a 45 yard kick by Brown being the difference, but he hit that in the early 3rd quarter. Alexander with about 145 yards, 1 TD, Matt throwing for 250 yards and 2 scores (1 to DJack and 1 to Jurivisious (or however you spell his name lol). We will be celebrating at Qwest Field this Sunday evening as we watch Alexander and the boys trot around the field carrying the George S Halas trophy!! GO HAWKS!

knez77 said:

those same idoits who picked carolina also picked the redskins, and i'm pretty sure we won that one right?.Alexander is back and ready win along with locklear.guess what carolina kitty fans?
ITS ASS WHOOPIN TIME!!! 38-17 hawks win big make statement PEACE OUT!!

PantherFan said:

Just a fan from NC crusin Seattle news...and all I have to say is that I'm surprised you guys aren't giving Carolina more props. At least "Ken" has the right idea...this game will be close, and to think otherwise would be foolish. Seattle does have a superior offense to the Bears, and they could win big...however you could argue just the same for Carolina. Steve Smith (in case you have chosen to ignore his numbers) is having a year for the ages (currently 2nd place EVER for total yards in regular season + playoffs), and hasn't been stopped yet. Goings is an able backup, and Jake is Mr. Clutch. Our defense is hitting its stride, and if we can stop Tiki Barber, we have a shot to contain Shawn. Just don't overlook the Panthers. I'd hate for ya'll to get blindsided on Sunday...

Dean from Seattle said:

This is going to be a game of the ages and will be talked about for decades. It'll be interesting to watch how Seattle's offense and defense handles their apponent. Carolina's a great team with class and style, but so is Seattle. Although, Seattle's beat better teams than Carolina except for the bears. The bears are good, but we're better. Carolina has work to do and I think they'll match well with Seattle but will not be the winners by any stretch of the imagination. I know talk is cheap and I hope that Seattle can surprise me and show me how good they really are. I do look at what vegas is saying and what ESPN and all the other sports websites are saying and I always hear different sides. Makes me just think it's better off just waiting to see what happens and I'm fine with that, but in my opinion, we're the better team and Carolina's going down even though they have smilth, the other guy, and the former seahawk too. It's been my experience to expect the unexpected and not keep my hopes up and that's done well for me. SEATTLE RULES!!!!!!!! DETROIT, HERE WE COME TO WIN!!!!!!!!!!

I hate pansies!! said:

Yo Carolina Pansies Fan!!

Carolina did do a good job stopping Tiki.. I'll give you that much. However, you overlooked one point. Last time I checked, the Giants were only a one dimensional team.. Manning choked, Shocky didn't do a thing.. You can't compare Seattle's offense to the Giants..

Nick Goings is NOT going to fulfill the Pansies running game. This game would've been closer had Foster or Davis been in the game.. Seattle will double up on Smith and Delhommie the clown will be sitting on his ass all game!!

I'd be skurrrrred.. VERY skurrrrred!!

Have fun watchin the Hawks Feb 5th!!

I hat people who act tough about a silly game that they will have no say in the outcome of!! said:

First off, Seattle is not being disrespected, get over you inferiority complex. Practically no one picked the Redskins or gave them much, if any chance.

The Panthers are better then the Skins though. Despite giving up 21 points to the Bears they were a top 5 in the NFL defense. Goings isn't much of a downgrade from Foster.

The Seahawks are more balanced, and yes their Defense is underatted and very good, but probably not better overall then the Panthers or the Redskins for that matter.

People, this will be a great game. I predict the Hawks in a close one. 17-13.

Casey said:

The 12th man has to be louder than ever. We've seen what we can do to a game as fans this season. If we want our players to give all to get us over the hump, the fans should be willing to do so as well.

If we get behind, we can't wait for a play to get us loud. We have the power to create that momentum on our own.

Sean said:

Lets not forget the main objective, winning the Super Bowl. I see lots of people saying that we are four quarters away from history. True, but I really don't think that getting to the Super Bowl means greatness. Winning the Super Bowl and bringing home the trophy means that your team will be in the books forever. 2nd place means that you were the team that the winners beat. There is no glory for second place.

Anyone read this lovely piece of journalism???

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=bayless/060120

I have a few things I'd like to say to him.... apparently the Superbowl...well it belongs to him and he doesn't want to see the "overrated Seahawks in it".

And I thought SI.com was bad....

GO HAWKS!!!!

Dean from Seattle said:

All you people dogging the Hawks are losers because I take pride in knowing that we'll win the Superbowl. A good team isn't measured by the win loss record because those don't matter in the playoffs. It all starts over. A good team is one that can work together, stay healthy, continue momentum, perserverance, strength, skill, and being about to work as a team and not as a single person. That's what good teams are made of. Who cares if the redskins won the superbowl. Who cares that all the other teams had horrible season records. We played some good teams in the season. I say good because they were good the year before. However, this year they were horrible and it wasn't by any fault of their own. So all you self riteous ego driven Hawk haters can just sit back and watch your team lose because we're going to the superbowl and winning it. When we win it you'll all be crying to your mommies that your team is nothing but losers, and I hope this game gives you all a reality check into what team is the best. SEATTLE RULES. MAGIC NUMBER IS XL baby.......YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This just in to the sportsdesk, The Seattle Seahawks defy conventional wisdom and Win! Years of misery and dissapointment dissapeared in an instant once the fireworks erupted from Qwest Field.

Always overlooked and underrated the Seahawks took charge early, Under the guidence of their Pro Bowl qb, they orchestrated a 80 yard drive to start the game, From then on they never looked back.

The defense didnt bend, it didnt break forcing delhomme into costly interceptions that led to alexander touchdowns. The league mvp had a free agent frenzy on his way to racking up 154 yards on 27 carries, scampering into the endzone twice on the ground.

Lofa Tatupu, an rookie from usc came up big with 2 sacks and a forced fumble. The crowd looked like it was too much for john fox's team as they had 7 false starts on the day.

The seahawks convincingly ride to detroit on a 38-10 victory.

minh said:

if the seahawks can stop wr smith and alexander can go over 100yrds then the seahawks will be heading to the mile high city
