The national media may say the Colts 1) didn't need to win and 2) were reeling from the loss of Tony Dungy's son, but it's clear that the Seattle Seahawks are the better team, trouncing the Colts 28-13. Shaun Alexander is the headliner once again, scoring three touchdowns and tying the all-time single season touchdown record at 27. Now the Hawks and the Colts are tied for the best record in football (although the Hawks have won 11 straight and the Colts have lost the last two), and it's safe to say I'm looking forward to a rematch in the Super Bowl.

Sure, the game didn't really mean much to the Colts but Peyton still is a gamer so when our defense kept them out of the endzone when Peyton was at quarterback mean a lot. It goes to show that the Hawks D may give up yards but still can stop even the best in the red zone. Otherwise, the colts still came to play just didn't want to risk injury to their key players.

ok, but the Colts DID rest seven starters (putting things in perspective as far as who is CLEARLY the better team). Otherwise - MERRY CHRISTMAS ALEXANDER. Wow. Thanks Mike, for putting the stud back in the game. And Merry Christmas to you, too, Mr. Bergman.

Alexander should be the spokesperson for Kleenex tissues.

True, a lot remains to be proved, but it will be proved in Detroit. Helping to prove that Seattle is the better team: Shaun Alexander, the best running back in the league.

Just 1 of 10,000,000 Seahawk haters. Give credit where credit is due. The Colts may still be the best team, but no one can argue that Seattle is not right there with them. Quit crying cause your team has lost 2 in a row, and have Merry Christmas.
P.S. See ya in Motor City Baby!!!!

I think hawks fans better get ready for a BIG let down, you can tell your starving for a good football team and starving even more for attention. I think the hawks will be knocked off in the first round. They played in the worst division in the league (not one winning record in the division), they had a back-up QB pass for 250 yards. Hey hawks fans, One word "TITANIC".......Go Bears!...Go Colts!

Seriously, we need to take our "Get Real" pills.
I've been with the Seahawks since Day 1 and remember time after time of getting our hopes up unrealistically.
Truly great teams come ready to BRING IT in the most difficult of situations, but this team's schedule for the last half of the season has been nothing but cream puffs. It is too easy to start drinking the Kool Aid and believing the hype.
I hope Holmgren can keep the fear and paranoia of losing it all in the first half of the first playoff game strong enough to keep everyone sharp. I could totally see that happening if they get overconfident.
Anyone watch the Bears game yesterday? Hello!!!

While it's possible that the Superbowl may not have the Seahawks or the Colts in it, I hope they both make it. I would love to see these two teams match up with everything on the line.

With all due respects to the Dungy family I wonder what excuses the Indy Sports Writer lovers and fans will use when the Seahawks trounce the Colts in the Super Bowl. Remember, Seattle wasn't at full strength either. Our Defensive backfield hasn't been at full strength for a long time. Let's see what happens when both teams are at full strength. No, I haven't forgotten about Chicago or any other team that some out of focus fan might think has a chance. As long as the Seattle players and the Indy players keep their heads through out the playoffs, I just don't see any team being able to match up with either team respectively.

Sounds like we have a few doubters among us as well. Granted, the Seahawks haven't always played up to expectations in the past, and granted they haven't won a playoff game since 1984. But this is 2005, the Seahawks have home field advantage, and it is going to be tough for the other NFC playoff teams to have to travel across the country to play them in their stadium. I believe that the Seahawks have just as much of a chance of going to, and WINNING,the Super Bowl, as any of the other teams in the playoffs. I know there's always a chance for the "big letdown", but come on, have a little faith in your team.

I am a Colts fan...I live in Indiana and stumbled across your blog. I have to say I am glad the Seahawks are where they are...I'm so tired of hearing about Philadelphia, the "New York Football Giants," etc. I hope Seattle walks through the playoffs...something I can see happening. Who's going to stop them...the Bears? Right.
I will gladly give the Seahawks credit for being a good football team. I think they've earned it. What I see missing from this blog is respect for the Colts. The initial post spoke of the Seahawks "trouncing" the Colts. If a 2 touchdown win (something that wasn't definitive until midway through the second half) over the likes of Sorgi, Moorehead, Walters, and company is a trouncing, so be it. But let's be careful we don't degrade a team that has proven quite a bit this year too. And I don't think "trouncing" will be happening again in the Super Bowl...remember, there it will be Manning, Harrison, Wayne, and company.
The truth is that Indy and Seattle have a lot in common. Once perennial bottom-dwellers, the teams have great coaches, great players, great fans (Seattle's display of respect for the Dungy's was sincere and very classy), and a great shot at making a run for Detroit. Here's to hoping that they both make it. If it ends up the Pats and the Giants, I think we'll all need therapy.

Thank you Peter, I agree with you that both teams deserve respect in the league. I am a long time Seahawks fan that has long been disappointed by the empty promise of a playoff run. Because of Seattle's previous poor showings in the last few years, I have also become a huge Colts fan. Don't get me wrong though, Feb 5th is about to be a new Seattle holiday. I think over the last few years the Hawks matched up very well with any team that made the playoffs but when it came down to it something would break down and we would fall back into our rut. This is our year though and the best chance I think we're going to get. In previous years I would argue that we had one of the best secondaries in the league but that could be our downfall in the playoffs. I know that Herndon and Dyson should be able to make a return and hopefully Trufant heals fast but what if injuries continue to plague us? Babineaux was being exploited all day in the Titans game (partially because we were running zone)but he stepped it up for the Colts game. Who knows what can happen in the post season?
As far as boasting the best team in football right now? I don't think we've earned that yet. When we can go four quarters against Manning & Co. and still come out on top. Then we should be able to gloat but that game on Christmas Eve wasn't the Best in the NFC versus the Best in the AFC. And I don't think that the 15 minutes that Peyton did play proves anything. The Colts second string against our first was still a good game. Sorgi is a good back up, proving the Colts are still dangerous well outside the red zone.
The two teams match up very well both with high octane offense with very aggressive defenses. Both can balance between the pass and the run and both have Pro Bowl quarterbacks. Both teams have a few obstacles to overcome (the Pats and the Bears). So if we do see these two teams in the big game, it's going to be the best Super Bowl in the last few years and no matter who wins it all I don't think we're in for a let down this post season.
But remember Seattle, the Colts are a regular in the playoffs and there's a reason why, and that's how we'll earn our well deserved national respect. But when we beat the Colts again it's going to be like the Oscars with all the media attention we're going to get. GO HAWKS.

Oh dear, I'd need more than therapy. That would spell doom. I hope the Colt decimate the Patriots. I can't stand that team. My personal opinion tells me Denver will make it for the AFC, but the Colts have home field and that bodes well for them.
As far as the NFC, it is all Seattle. The crowd in the Giants game previously this season was just a small preview of what they will be come January 14th/15th. The Bears have the defense, but can't score enough point to keep up with the top offense. The Giants are overrated, Carolina is a threat, but has its flaws, and besides those three, no other team stands a chance in Qwest Field.
