Washington Mutual's new ad
campaign "Whoo hoo!" is sparking the ire of many bloggers. "They’re &$^% annoying...ISN’T IT SPELLED “WOO-HOO”? rants
Choptix. "It’s not WHO, it’s WOO. So when something good happens or I’m singing that Song 2 song by
Blur, I go WOOOOO-HOO." Even
Google says so: A search for "Woo hoo" has exponential more hits than "Whoo hoo." So what's with the H? WaMu says blame The Simpsons. "The Simpsons use 'Woo hoo.' We couldn't trademark it if they used it. We didn't want something that somebody else is using," said a WaMu spokesperson. Whether you "woo" or "whoo," expect the annoying ads to be around for awhile. (Via

Wow, so I'm not the only person on the planet that cares? Totally annoying. It is WOO-HOO, not "Whoo-hoo," which would be pronounced "hoo-hoo," which -- tangentially -- when spelled "huhu" is Hawaiian for "mad."

Agree with the article and I'm wondering why they didn't they just do
"Waaaaaaaaaa Muuuuuuuu!!!" and made it a catch phrase. It's a brand they already own, so use it!

I agree - hubby and I say "hoo hoo!" and laugh everytime we drive by one of those stupid billboards and wonder out loud why in the world they'd proudly display something so obviously incorrect. And our next question is, how much money went into such a ridiculous marketing campaign?

Maybe it's driven by their recent lack of customer service -- and the fact that you have to spit a little bit to say it like "WHOO".
