Rate the new Seattle Mariners commercials
The Seattle Mariners have revealed their new 2008 ad campaign today, and the Everett Herald's sports blog has already gone to work reviewing them. I agree that some don’t quite tickle the funny bone. In an ad called "Pepe" it's revealed that hitter Jose Vidro isn't really a switch-hitter, instead he has a twin brother who bats from the right side. Kind of lame. But the ad where Felix Hernandez grows a mustache in a matter of seconds is clever. You can get a look at all the ads here.

Clearly, these are the lamest ads to come from the Mariners. I found only one mildly interesting, the rest just weren't funny -- and a couple just didn't make any sense at all.

Great spots! Absolutely loved them. Beltre's might have been the funniest though the circus on the mound is great too. Mustache contest was a lot of fun as well. Hard to pick a favorite.

I don't get the "Slide Show" one, but the Beltre clip was well done and the mustache contest was pretty funny. Too bad the thumbnail of Felix with the mustache gives away the punchline.

It's hard to top the "thinking ballclub is a winning ballclub" and "Norm-Norm" spots from the late 90's, but still a valiant effort from the Mariners.

If these idiotic commercials are any indication of the Mariner's success this year, I hereby resign myself to seeing the team in last place by a wide margin. They seriously need to find a new ad agency that has some creativity. I'm a marketing director. I could come up with better stuff than this in my sleep.
