Take down your Christmas lights, already
A quick drive around your neighborhood will likely reveal a few homes still adorned in holiday lights. And it's February, last time we checked. "Is trend-setting Seattle starting a new fad?" blogs O. Casey Corr. I hope not. Perhaps these folks are just waiting for Super Tuesday?
Adds Diane in comments: "Oh, please. We put our lights up the third week of November, and run them at least until March. We have greatly enjoyed them in the snow we've gotten, and it makes the neighbors laugh. We enjoy them. What's the problem!?"

Casey-My sentiments exactly! Besides, the wires in outdoor lights aren't made for YEAR-round use--the manufacturers reccommend taking them down SOON after the holiday. A drive around my neighborhood in Bellevue show PLENTY that are still up--for gosh sakes, HIRE a teen to take them down if you don't have time to do it yourselves! :-) I love these 'serious issues' discussions.

What's the problem!?

While I can certainly understand being too busy to be able to take your lights down, why do you want to still light them? They are CHRISTMAS lights, not winter lights. But then I guess the current trend is to try to take Christmas out of Christmas so all that we have left is some ambiguous winter holiday that anyone can celebrate just for the sake of partying. While we're at it, let's just leave them up year around and we can call them "Just-because" lights.

Diane - I hate to break it to ya, but your neighbors are laughing at you. You've probably become the joke of the neighborhood.

If it gives this family joy what's the problem? How is it HURTING any of you?!?
And where is the written rule/law that they have to be lit ONLY for christmas? Get over yourselves and go find some joy in your own lives instead of trying to take theirs away.

Sounds like these people would be happy in the susburbs, where the neighborhood association could predict when "christmas" lights go up and come down.
I prefer the city where
people are free to do as they choose, and those who don'tlike it can..well,
complain on a blog like a bunch of whiners!
Why isit assumed that all lights are "christmas"?
I guess that just shows ignorance on part of the whiners.
Whine on! the rest of us will just enjoy the pretty
lights, no matter what the occasion.

I hate to take down the lights when there is still a chance of snow. I don't light them but they are up "just in case". We have had opportunity to light up the snow a few times since Christmas. :-)

There are white lights on our home, and they're Winter Lights. They will brighten the dark nights until the first day of Spring. Don't like it? Find something important to get upset about.

Now that Xmas is over and people wants the lights taken down, does that also mean I can stop hoping for Peace on Earth, Good Will Towards Men, and Joy to the World as well?
