UW bloggers brushed off by Clinton campaign

Crosscut has an article today about a group of UW students who have been diligently covering the 2008 presidential election, blog-style. They've covered the caucuses (even when one blogger was told to leave), the speeches, and they even plan to go to Texas for the March 4 primaries and caucuses. But their professor, David Domke, writes that in Idaho and Washington state, there "emerged a lean toward Obama in my students' writing about the Democratic contest." He reasons that the slant occurred partially because his students had political crushes on Obama, and blogging allowed their opinions to shine through. But he also points to another reason – that Obama's campaign treated the students like "pros." They called back within minutes, arranged interviews, handed out press passes and even let them into KeyArena after police had locked the doors and stopped letting people in. But he says Clinton's campaign couldn't be bothered, writing: "The Clinton campaign, in contrast, didn’t return a single phone call, didn’t provide press access, and did virtually nothing to encourage our coverage. It was either arrogance or disorganization on the Clinton campaign’s part."
