Looks like Capitol Hill's B&O Espresso and Cafe, one of the first espresso establishments in Seattle, may be next in line for development demolition.
Slog cites this report from
1650choice.org, a group dedicated to saving the B&O. "The proposed project would result in a 65’ tall, 75-unit apartment complex with retail below. This would eliminate the existing businesses, including the B&O Espresso, as well as the two-fourplex apartments to the north of the B&O." You can sign a petition on their site and find info where to write DPD Land Use Planner Bruce Rips. (Slog confirms yes, this is really his name)

But doesn't Capitol Hill need more housing? Can B&O set up shop in the new retail space?

Dream on - The chances of an old-time independent business being able to afford the space in these new retail/housing constructs is slim to none. Plus, would the B&O folks be able to put their business "on hold" for the 1-2 years of construction? It is so sad that this city is slowly chipping away at everything that once gave it character.

Agreed...everything but the things that need less character, like the Viaduct.
