RapidRide bus service coming to West Seattle

A new kind of bus service is coming to West Seattle, reports West Seattle Blog. Starting in 2011, RapidRide will replace Metro's Route 54 between Fauntleroy and downtown Seattle via the Alaska Junction. Designed to "keep people moving quickly," the RapidRide buses have low floors and three floors and a new payment system to get riders on and off fast. As buses approach intersections, they'll send signals to traffic lights so green lights stay green longer or red lights switch to green faster. (Apparently, this is Metro's answer to rapid transit.) West Seattlites can weigh in at an open house on the project tonight at the Hall at Fauntleroy from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., or fill out an online questionaire.
