The SLUT gets yet another nickname
Over the weekend, I heard from friends that workers from South Lake Union businesses like the Hutch are far from impressed with the South Lake Union Streetcar, even giving it yet another unfortunate nickname. They're calling it something like the "70 on rails." The 70 is a Metro bus that runs from the U District to downtown and back - and I'm told it's notorious for getting stuck in traffic, getting off schedule and being just plain slow. Still others say the SLUT is adding more trouble to the Mercer Mess.

Expecting things to work immediately without a hitch is inane.
Expecting transit to work immediately without a hitch in a gas-guzzling transit-hating city like Seattle is insane.

I couldn't have said it better. Alex-jon, that was perfect.
I'm so sick of people talking smack about the trolley. Give it a chance to work for a year at least before trying to dismiss it.

All the SLUT added to Mercer Street is two traffic lights that help meter traffic anyway.
Personally they should ban all vehicular traffic on Westlake and Terry and make them transit only corridors
even the bicyclists would like that (of course they need to learn how to cross rails in the pavement first (something that people everywhere else on earth seem to do better than people here))

The 70 isn't all that bad. It's usually the Mercer thrash that throws it off schedule. But between the bug people and all the new condos and apartment construction on Eastlake, it's carrying a lot more people than a couple of years ago. That's why they're adding capacity for morning rush, something that's not easily done with the SLUT.

When mass transit adds adaquate restrooms on their lines, I will never drive again.

what doesn't seattle do that confuses the masses. The only people who understand this worthless transit are the contractors that made over five million profit, the MILLION the street car vendor made. Great property owners paid 25 million of the 50 million tab... once again poor management from a socialistic city run by a major who wants to be something... just doesn't know what that something is!
