Shooting may cause Capitol Hill nightclub to close

Just a day after a shooting at Capitol Hill's Sugar nightclub (three were wounded) – plus action against the club by the Mayor, the SLOG has discovered Sugar will probably close down. Staff at SLOG say they got a hold of an e-mail sent to nightclub employees from the owner, reading: "I met with an attorney who handled the Larry’s and Mr. Lucky’s closures. From our conversations, and I will sleep on this, but I think I will close the business tomorrow and put it up for sale. I don’t have the money to run Sugar at half speed while the city and liquor board try to close me down not to mention the lawsuits from the persons injured coming down the pike." Now SLOG commenters are debating what the space should become. Ideas include an H&M, A Virgin Records store, more "cheesy, overpriced" condos, a gay bar – or the top choice: a roller rink. My votes goes to the roller rink.

It has been really interesting to watch the demise of this club. When it switched into a "Pioneer Square 'esque" bar, many predicted the fall wasn't far behind.

It was doing pretty good as a gay bar, at least people didn't shoot each other and you didn't have to be frisked as you entered. I'm really glad it's closing! You couldn't walk by the place without getting harassed or berated.

The owner (George) and his "security" should be run off the hill and never allowed back.

I gave it 6 months as a gay bar, which it barely lasted. The problem is we Seattleites don't care for fancy bright LA style clubs, not even the gays, we like em dark and dingy.

This space has been cursed ever since the EZ closed, which at the time was the only Lesbian dance club.

Since I work right accross the street I would like to see a nice restaurant that serves sandwiches, salads and has a robust lunch menu!

The Comet and Nuemos prove that you can be responsible members of the community and serve alcohol. This place just needed better ownership. This is why I support Nickels licensing legislation. About the only thing of his I do support.

Have some fucking compassion; it's not easy running a club in the current political climate. It's guys like you that have made Seattle a boring place to live. It's easy to judge, but really just exposes you for the shallow, insensitive nitwits that you are.

My friend ran Tommy's with a ton of love and caring after he purchased the club about 5 years ago, but this didn't stop Nickels from targeting his club after police failed to respond to a 911 call made BY THE CLUB OWNER that resulted in a shooting outside their doors. The owner saw trouble coming, but the police never bothered to show up.

That wasn't in the papers. Sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to find the truth.
