When I saw this scrawny excuse for a tree in Westlake Center yesterday (
video), I thought it was last year's tree dying on the vine. But nope, it's Seattle's official holiday tree for 2007, waiting for the lighting ceremony on the 23rd. KING 5's Robert Mak was out covering a story in Westlake Center today when people randomly asked him about it. "That's gotta be the worst holiday tree I've ever seen in my life," says one guy, pointing to the lack of branches on the bottom half. "Now how about if they decorate it properly?" Mak asked a bystander. "Like, with some more tree?" the guy says. "One would think that Seattle of all places, would celebrate diversity in trees,"
Mak blogs. Apparently not, and it will be interesting to see if professional tree decorators can magically transform this barren tree into a holiday landmark.

One large light at the bottom would make the Westlake Christmas tree a sight to behold. May I suggest a Duraflame.

Doesn't it violate some green initiative to tear down a tree like that for no other reason than to celebrate some insiginificant supposed savior who died over 2,000 years ago? So much for being a leader in protecting the environment Seattle.

Now THAT is a beautiful tree! In this world of celebutant trees making the covers of every arborist magazine, it is nice to see a tree with some CHARACTER taking main stage. I'll bet this tree has lots of beauty on the INSIDE!

Richard- The environment isn't a concern? Don't you know that in the Bible it talks about what happens to the earth and even Global Warming. Spend a little time reading up on it, and you will save a lot of money istead, of wasting time & money on trying to save the earth when it spells it out very clear that the earth will not last. Merry Christmas Dick.

My Thanksgiving prayer - stop sending all our trees to the East Coast for Rockefeller Center and the White House and save one for us!
Is this still the Pacific Northwest or what people???

That is the whimpiest and most pathetic Christmas Tree I've ever seen. We live in the evergreen state, you'd think they could do better than that!
