New Sonics owner 'is a liar'
So we've heard that Clayton Bennett and the rest of the new Sonics ownership team wants to keep the team in Seattle. In fact, he said this last year: "It is not our intention to move or relocate the team." Oh, and this: "The No. 1 objective, our primary and sincere efforts, will be driven towards being successful here."
Well, the SonicsCentral blog found a quote in an Oklahoma business paper from Aubrey McClendon -- who co-owns the Sonics along with Bennett as saying they bought the team to move it to Oklahoma City. "We didn’t buy the team to keep it in Seattle; we hoped to come here,” he said. “We know it’s a little more difficult financially here in Oklahoma City, but we think it’s great for the community and if we could break even we’d be thrilled."
"Clay Bennett is a liar," concludes SonicsCentral, and now the story is everywhere.
Writes MMBB in comments: "Let me know when I can go down there and help them pack up and leave. They add no value to this city, in fact, they usurp funds from more noble causes."
Adds anonymous: "When you buy your next cup of Starbucks coffee, remember the Seattle Sonics. Howard Shultz is a spoiled brat who basically sold our team out from under our city, without even asking if another local buyer was interested. Remember Paul Allen had the Blazers up for sale prior to this sale, he would have probably stepped up and saved our team."

They figured if they could fleece the taxpayers of WA into building the most expensive basketball arena in the world, which would net about another 1,500 seats over Key Arena, then they would stay here and make bucketloads of cash. If not, they will move the team to the OK city arena that cost 85 million and have their toy in their own backyard. Either way they stink. I say let them pack up and move while the Sonics undergo yet another "rebuilding" phase.
