I am so sorry to hear this terrible news. I feel so bad for the family. Sex offenders need to be dealt with on a first strike basis. Their is no cure/rehabilitation for their behavior. Why should an innocent girl pay with her life?

This is a tragedy beyond belief, to live in a world where our children cannot even be on the borders of their safe haven - home - and be themselves without worry and distress from every parent who now have to act as hawks keeping keen eyes for predators. This is a sad day. My aching heart goes out to the family and sincere sympathy.

I kept watching King5.com hoping they would find this precious little angel alive and well. I was sickened to see that was not the case. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this innocent child. I hope that you may find comfort knowing that she is in the hands of Jesus now and that nobody will ever hurt her again and she will see you again. There are simply no words.... as a mother, my heart is breaking. As a human being, I can't comprehent how anyone could ever even think of harming a child. I agree that there isn't a cure or help for seriously disturbed individuals, and time and time again the sex offender that raped the first time ends up raping and killing the second time. The system needs to change to protect our communities. I'm sickened by what the little girl must have been put through and what her family is going through now.

There is obviously something wrong with some people (men) look at Dateline all those men that continually go to that house looking for children to have sex with...when are we going to start looking at "why" they are like this??? I hate to think that i would have to pay for them to stay alive but if it means saving our children then i am all for it. One day the people will go crazy and kill all the sex offenders. Next will be the ones who do crimes to children. I would be there front and center to blow them away if they even harmed any of my loved ones. But what do you do when it is your relative who is the offender? Do you kill him too? When I saw the news about Zina on the 11:00 PM news I cried. Today has been a sad day as I think about her family, her sisters and brothers, her mom; her dad knowing he wasn't able to protect her. This is a family that moved to our great country legally to give their children a good chance at living, a future; and then this happens. It makes me ashamed of what our country has yet to deal with - sex offenders and illegal immigrants.

I am truly saddened by this event and grieve for this family. Zina is a Hero. Her loss is tragic and sickening. But in times like these when the world seems doomed, we have to try to seek some sort of light in all the darkness. I believe that Zina is a hero, because of her we caught someone who may have been and if not for Zina may have continued to be a serial offender. I work for DOC and I can tell you that this offender will not get off easy. Inmates, not staff, will give him what he deserves and then some. I think its sad that staff will treat them good and the inmates end up punishing eachother.

I can't help but wonder, did he act alone? I mean, he had to stop the van, put it in park, get out, grab Zina, struggle to get her into the van, go back around to the drivers door and put it gear and drive off. In all that time, Zina was apparently screaming for help and no doubt struggling. It seems to me that he may have had help with her abduction, because otherwise, why couldn't she climb out of that van?

This is horrific. My prayers are with the family of this precious girl. Unfortunately our country is a haven for criminals. Unless we wake up things will only get worse. Our prisons are overpopulated, police can't be tough anymore because of all the politics surrounding what they can and can't do. Criminals have more rights protecting them then the innocent do by far. Example: if you have a meth lab next door and the cops know it, they can't just go in and shut it down - they have to catch them in the act and collect a ton of evidence. If you want reform then start standing behind our officers and law makers that have a track record in promoting reform. I am so angry, disgusted and feeling horrible saddness for zina and her family. This country has really lost the ability to keep their eye on the ball and remember whats the most important things in this country and our life. I dont even have kids but the fact that especially girls are being abducted, tortured and murdered constantly and so easily here is pathetic. I have been in law enforcement years ago and am embarrased by the law enforcement and the criminal justice system in the u.s. We are so concerned, blindly with small crime and criminals and yet seem to be unable to protect and serve the most important and weakest of our citizens...the young and the old. The fact that a amber alert was held for 12 hours after Zina's disapearance because of bureaucratic bullshit is an outrage and a crime in itself. Anyone involved in law enforcement or search and rescue knows the first 12 hours are the most important...and to wait for any reason whe n dealing with a 12 year old with no history of being a runaway is horrible. The tacoma pd should be grieving for their loss of ethical behavior...and they will have to answer to the family. The same bullshit accured in the Brooke Willberger case in oregon. For reasons to weak to defend we have all become to apathetic to protect those that need it. Arms whether physical or mental should be taken up by all of us to change and protect those little angels that depend on us. If there is an injustice its up to us to scream about it until it gets attention....its our responsibility what happens if we do nothing. As much as we all care and are in pain afterwards....it doesnt help these children unless we use our pain for change.

This is our families one year anniversary of moving into our new home........AWAY from, and because of a "level 1" sex offender, who we for 6 months befriended, when he and his wife moved into our 15 kid filled cul-da-sac. He knew what he was doing when he moved onto our street. Mark Messerschmit is a "level 1" sex offender convicted on several counts in Iowa of raping a 4 yr. old boy. He was in his 40's when finally caught...who knows about what he had done before he was caught. Today he continue's to befriend the unknowing new children of the community with his Black Lab named "Rambo". Level 1. Rape is RAPE. Why is he living amongst our children? We too, like Zinna's family, have 7 children. Our very dear next door niegbors, from our old cul-da-sac, are also Ukrainian. In August, because of our love for the Ukrainian culture, and the general spirit of these loving people, we are hosting an exchange student from the Ukraine for 1 year. So, there are so many reasons why our family's hearts morn for Zinna's family. May Jesus Christ comfort them in this sorrowful, sorrowful time. Blessed be Zinna's memory.

This situation is an example of why I believe in the death penalty. If you commit rape and there is enough evidence...you should be put to death. These people never get better. The man who did this to Zina is a sicko pervert. He doesn't deserve a trial. What he did to Zina, the authorities should do to him many times over. If the laws in the US were more stict, there would be less crime. These criminals commit these crimes because they think nothing will happen to them, and they are exactly right. Our policemen bust their butts and risk their lives to catch these criminals. Then the Judges in our courts basically pat the criminals on the head and advise them to never do it again. The post's above are heart breaking. I knew dang for a couple of years. He was at my house a month and a half ago. Called him to help with the sewer system in my house. He came willingly. Often we say we know people. Clearly, I now see that I only knew of him. His girl friend, mu wiofe's niece, only said of him that he was as normal as they get. He is nondiscript. I've seem him many time's. But at the moment, I can't see the features of his face. 110 pounds, thin. I don't defend him. ever. But, never whould I think a person, his persona, would do such a mounstrous act. I pray for the family of the deceased.

As I heard, Zina was a joy for the Lord and people around her- she has eternal life and waiting for all of us with Heavenly Father in the House, that God prepared for all His loving children. It is impossible to kill somebody, who has Jesus in his heart.
Zina’s friends and relatives will be comforted by Almighty God, because they depend on Him, and not on revenge.
But where are we today, without knowing living comforting God?

Today all earth going through tragedy - rejecting Someone Who created us for happiness, and not for death. We rejecting our Life – living God, Who is able to keep and defend somebody who needs it.
America, where we live today, was built on God’s law, that’s why America achieved great things. This country had everything in God – wisdom and strength to rise up, defense, love and freedom…But with every year, rejecting God’s love, we forgetting God’s laws and by this way we loose safety.
When we are not caring about having God in our mind, we are doing unnecessary things, letting violence to infect out community.
Why there are so many violent people? Why those people are able to kill helpless people around them?
Answer is very clear – aggressive heart that no one was caring about from childhood and didn’t direct to the right path of life.
Sex offender definitely deserves punishment, but why he is a sex offender? Where is offending begins? We can say: on the streets, somewhere on the side, from someone or somewhen…
But maybe we teach our children to kill their neighbors when we refuse to think, and ask ourselves and community the following questions: Who am I? Where am I going? What am I doing? Why am I doing it?
Only when I have something, I can give it back
But what we have today in our hearts? Where does tragedy come from and why?
Today we let corruption and violence to enter our homes through violent movies on TV, and also through video/computer games that filled with violent killing.
Why do we choose it? Why do we let our children to adjust to it? Why do we get attracted to violence in videos, if it is so hurtful when it happens in real world to us? Maybe violence and corruption starts here!
We are learning lessons of violence in our homes, putting ourselves and whole community in danger. Our children and we as adults are starting to follow those examples that we see everyday around us. We are playing with the fire… It seems like we are not caring about what our souls and souls of our children are feeding on? What do our families see and hear? What do we learn? Do we understand what happening? Where are we right now? Why?
Millions of people who once thought about reason for their lives on this Earth, today are comforted by living God even in very extreme situations.
But unfortunately, those who don’t know and don’t want to know their Savior, miss the opportunity to be loved and comforted in tragedies, to continue to live with love, and to care about others.
Only Almighty God, who created man, perfectly knows us. That’s why He is able to help us to understand what is happening in everyone’s life.
We are responsible for future generation. What do we teach our children? What are we living for? Are we thinking about how our daily life will influence us and our children?
Every person has a choice! If we want transformation in our community, there is only one Way that always worked for those who seek Him. This way is not far from every one…
Stop, precious human! Think about yourself…What are you building your life on? Our future depends on it.

Dang was an army ranger for many year's. He learned how to kill. Those who join the military never think they would \be killer's. They are and do kill. I saw it first hand in vietnam. From what I know about the suspected killer, that is, he was calm, but moody, and it is likely, that he will find a way to kill himself. It will be over, but here probably will be a reputational stain on the tacoma police. Some of the news report's being printed are not accurate, I suppose by design. He lived, {rented} the parkland house for a couple of month's only. Other person's have been interviewed.

Above post's refer to a sex crime. Is it? Does this murdered young girl have a resemblance to his half sister, the one he was convicted of raping? The sadness felt by so many is as hard on them as it is ton the people who knew him. And there are many who knew dang. The police are tracking these people down and interviewing them.

This case is a perfect example of why the Justice System should never release sex offenders back into society. This monster spent 5 YEARS! in sexual predator rehab while in prison. It is impossible to rehabilitate a sex offender, their mind is not normal. These offenders should be kept in mental hospitals for life, so that we can protect our innocent children from the evil perversion these criminals possess.

i read ones comment about how he spent 5 years in "therapy"! well guess what, that was the deal for him as most other sex offenders, they make a deal if they admit to having done the crime and
be willing to go to therapy for however long then their jail time gets reduced. i tell you what though i bet that noone in the judical system has ever been a victim of sex offenders but i have on 3 different occasions and guess what they all got well one only served time while waiting for his court hearing wich in this state is not very long at all the other one got quite a few years ONLY because i was his 10th offence and the other got nothing, so if i worked in the system there would be no deal screw all that, you dont care how you made them feel than why should we care that you are "sorry". this little girl was 12 for heavans sake and i am betting that hell only get deported and who knows what the laws are over there, this really sucks not even for me but more for the parents to live the rest of their lives knowing that their little girl died at the hands of a sex offender who was already red flagged (sorta red flagged) and level ones dont even have to registar, thats boggus if you ask me. but in all honesty who the hell are we to say??????????.

This is such a sad story and as a parent, my heart goes out to this little girl's family.
The thing that stands out in this story for me is that as parents, we feel helpless with our children being preyed on by these monsters. This man COMPLETED FIVE YEARS in a treatment program for sexual predators and all he learned is how to dispose of his victims to alleviate getting caught. I have no doubt that this litle girl wasn't his first victim since his "treatment program". It makes me sick and ANGRY.

I wrote a proposal to institute a mandatory death sentence for any first time offender who kills or molests a child. I fax'd and e-mailed it to Governor Gregoire, Maria Cantwell, Patty Murray, Dave Up-The-Grove and Shay Shuel-Burke.

Needless to say, not one of them responded to my concern specifically. Our represenatives do not do enough to help communities keep their children safe. We all need to bombard them with letters, e-mails, faxes.

I heart goes out to Zina's family. I guess you are right- laws are not tough because it didn't happen to the kids who make laws against sex offenders. I hate them all. I am wondering why an Amber Alert was not issued until July 5th. The father clearly saw that Zina was missing and that she was abducted. He had a partial license plate number. There was no question of her abduction. An Amber Alert should have been issued that night; regardless of them looking at other suspects. There should not be a 24 hour wait in a situation like this. Who can I talk to from having a delayed Amber Alert happen again? I think all sex offenders should have some kind of tracking device on them at all times, something that they cannot take out; it should be implanted in their body permanently and the tracking devices should always be looked at in situations like this. When a bank is robbed, cops are out on the streets right away, searching the freeways, checking intersections, sending out alerts; did this happen for Zina or is money more important?

Another idea: All sex offenders should have a tracking device permanently inserted into their penis; if they get the urge to commit another sexual offense and decide to take the implant out, they would have to castrate themselves. This should stop those sick disgusting pigs for good. Second offense: Castration and/or death. This calls for real sex offenders, not fire starters or a case of a 19 year-old dating a 17-year-old; come on get real, lets weed these sex offenders out.

It's amazing that the abduction and murder of this precious child, Zina, has touched so many people. I live in Zina's block. Do you know that the Department of Corrections' Criminal Justice Center/REPORTING CENTER is at the end of this block? If you don't know, you might be the only one that doesn't. The foot traffic funneling in front of Zina's home is comprised of murderers, rapists, pedophiles and assorted predators going to and from the Department of Corrections' Criminal Justice Center/Reporting Center. There is no natural occuring foot traffic in this block. Our children are exposed exponentially to the DOC's REGIONAL Justice Center's approximately 1400 predators/reportees who traverse the solid block to the Department of Corrections in front of our homes every month. Low-style Tacoma politics got the Criminal Justice Center located there and unconscionable, soul-less, lip-service, and a good dose of crocodile-tear crying for this child who needed protection more than anybody, keeps it here to this day.
