news: October 2007I knew I was stupid for not bringing earplugs. But come on -- I'm a veteran rocker. I saw Van Halen when David Lee had hair, and Def Leppard when they had all their limbs. ...Diane Boynton, of Kent, was looking for a little extra pizzazz for a Halloween costume for her son. She bought "Fright Night Temporary Hair Color - Black fog." Unfortunately, she says the small aerosal can accidently fell off an end table and black paint starting spewing in all directions. Now she says, looking back, she ... A homeowner says his house is sinking near Auburn after King County raised a road in front of his house and failed to put in a bigger culvert as planned. The 36th anniversary of D.B. Cooper's infamous leap is approaching (Nov. 24th). Almost each year, without fail, that date rings in another round of news stories and conjecture about the nation's only unsolved skyjacking. What astonishes me are the two big questions that continue to loom large in one of the most talked about "whodunits" in American history. First, of course, is the question of Cooper's identity. Who is this guy? Even though it seems like we've covered a lot of these stories lately, it is never easy to report on a pit bull attack. A Seattle man's two dogs were jumped on Sunday, during their morning walk. He says two unleashed pit bulls approached them -- calmly at first -- and then inexplicably, they attacked. His female dog was seriously hurt, and he earned himself a shattered finger trying to break up the struggle. Despite his $2,200 vet bill, he... There’s no doubt this year’s winter (not holiday) decorations at Sea-Tac Airport will be festive and bright. Port of Seattle officials hope they’ll be one other thing – non controversial! (See story on KING5.com) Wednesday at 6:30 students and staff will gather at Bainbridge Island’s Ordway Elementary to remember a beloved school counselor believed to have been brutally murdered by his own son. ...They were oblivious to everyone, everything: hundreds of cheering families, kids waving balloons and homemade signs, jet engines still thundering on the tarmac. Their entire sphere condensed to encompass only each other. ..."This is like finding a needle in a haystack." The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) issued their latest observations and forecast for El Nino/La Nina this week. The La Nina conditions (colder than normal sea surface temperatures) that have been observed for several months are continuing. NCEP is characterizing this as a weak to moderate La Nina. Computer mode... During the course of my many stories concerning lead in products I have come to a inescapable conclusion: The stuff is everywhere. Seattle City Councilmember Peter Steinbrueck told me people should not rush to judgement, because "people's lives and reputations" are at stake. That's so true, and why I have tried to handle this story so carefully. We received a tip around 3 in the morning, that Richard McIver was arrested after an altercation with his wife. We talked, and talked about it, and decided to proceed cautiously. I know in particular that these k... The KING 5 Investigators get phone calls and e-mails almost daily from homeowners telling us horror stories about bad contractors. We investigate the worst cases in order to expose unscrupulous contractors and to explain why current laws and regulations often fail to hold them accountable. But there are plenty of good contractors out there and we want to share some of the inside secrets we've learned about how to find one. It looks like an interesting weather pattern for the next few days. We are seeing a break in the wet weather today with surface high pressure over us and a little offshore flow. This should help to clear out the few areas of low clouds and fog we have around this morning. The strongest storm of the fall so far is located off the coast, but today all we will see out of it is high clouds filtering the sunshine. ...Sure, you thought your reliable '98 Ford Taurus was a great car. But after it was totaled in a crash, the insurance adjuster tells you it's only worth $3000. The fact that they've lived in a camper for the past 7 weeks says it all. The Springfield family is determined to stay together through this incredibly difficult time. ... I got to spend the day in the snow. People were driving up from both sides of the mountains to play in it. That's right, there was snow at Stevens Pass, four inches on the ground by morning. And it snowed on and off all day. This story was such an adrenaline rush, that I had to blog about it. KING 5 reporter Tonya Mosley, freelance reporter Charlotte Starck and I were assigned this morning to the story about the wanted Snohomish County rape suspect. We were set up in front of the Snohomish County Courthouse, getting ready to interview the detective handling the case. I had my camera on my tripod, a good color balance, and my mic levels were set. I was fram... Imagine how hard it must be to be ON all the time. That's what Jerry Seinfeld has to think about, and what he must have been thinking on his last stop for his 10-city promotional tour for his new flick, "Bee Movie." We had a chance to talk to him when he was at Pacific Place, and I must admit, even after being a fan of his show and standup routine, I didn't expect him to greet me the way he did. Apparently, he's a fan of the clothes ... Reviewing police reports filed by Seattle Police officers can be a sad and at times mindnumbing experience. It is sad to see how hundreds of people are victimized every week in very serious ways. From the husband beating his wife to the group of teens kicking and robbing a woman on the street to the scammer stealing people's identity, they are the depressing crimes that stand out in an otherwise safe city. Yesterday, while watching a cable news outlet, the words sprawled across the screen, "BREAKING NEWS: Britney Spears loses custody of her children." Ok, (sigh)...yes I consider myself a journalist, but just like everyone else I can't help but have an opinion about this. For the last two years every aspect of this girl's life (that media can get it's hands on) has been plastered across news outlets and tabloid covers. Spears life has b... |
