Travelers warned of long lines at Canadian border Bookmark and Share

5:57 PM Fri, Jul 31, 2009 |

BLAINE, Wash. - U.S. and Canadian customs agents are warning travelers to expect long lines at the border for the next several days.
That's because of a major event involving local police and firefighters.
Dozens of local men and women will compete in the World Police and Fire Games in Vancouver. It starts tonight.
The games will feature more than 12,000 cops and firefighters from around the globe - competing in nearly 60 events.
Organizers say the participation will rival the size of the Vancouver Olympics, which are just a few months away.
Border agents say they expect traffic volume to increase significantly because of the games. With a three-day Canadian holiday weekend thrown in, long lines are expected at the Blaine crossing.
