As a reporter I get a lot of flack from friends about the stories we cover and how we cover them. Usually I get the worst beatings when there is some sort of weather event (or sometimes a non-event).
Such is the case with our record-breaking heat wave.
"Why do you guys run so many stories about how hot it is?" I'm continuously asked.
People snap at me saying, "You don't have to tell us it's hot. We know it's hot."
Then there is "If I have to see another story about hot road crews or firefighters, I'm going to heave my television out the window."
My standard response is that reporters don't make the decsions about how many stories are done on a particular issue, but we tend to give weather more attention because impacts everyone, regardless of race, age, gender or socio-economic status.
I think all of the points raised are valid, however.
So, here's your chance: Sound off! Let my bosses know what you think about snow, rain ,heat, wind coverage. How much is too much? When should we pull the plug? What do you think is most useful and important for you as viewers?
