The King County Sheriff's deputy who shoved Christopher Harris into a wall in Belltown last May, won't face charges, the King County Prosecutor's office says. On May 10, Deputy Matthew Paul chased Harris after a bystander mistakenly pointed him out as a suspect in an assault. It's unclear why Harris ran and there were conflicting reports of whether the deputies identified themselves. It was at night and the deputies, who were working a Metro Transit detail, were wearing tactical outfits. The Prosecutor's office released this statement: This was a very tragic incident, but we have no legal basis for a criminal charge. The law provides that an officer "shall not be held criminally liable for using force without malice and with a good faith belief that such act is justifiable." Christopher Harris was identified by witnesses to officers as a suspect in a violent crime. He ran for several blocks after he was told to stop by uniformed officers. As the deputy caught up to him, the deputy used a standard take down procedure. As a result, no criminal charge can be filed. 5 Comments |
this is so wrong, i remember this story so clearly and i dont understand why they think it is ok to let this slide. Whats next are they going to be able to just start taxing people cause they looked at an officer cross eyed. What that officer did was wrong and showed major lack of judgment. Before you ever put your hands on some one you should look around and see where they are going to go when you move them with such force. And come on use your head if you are more than twice the size of someone you dont need to do that. Wrong wrong wrong on so many levels
Could have told you that back when the icident happened.....the cops are always right (even when they are wrong) in this city.......God help us all.
I'm glad to hear the cop won't be charged... you two idiots "irate" and "No Brainer" criticize the police right now on this incident... I just wonder how you'd react if it were your life in danger? Such a double-standard!! I am positive that if your life was in danger... you'd be pissed to see the cops standing around deliberating over the situation for 10/15 minutes, while the suspect flees the area; or had a family member injured/killed by the suspect because the police didn't take him down immediately - but instead, played some "happy-dance" game to make sure the suspect wouldn't be injured in the take-down. People like you disgust me.
Well, what can you say. Another cop gets away with breaking the law. Just thinking if you shoved someone like that and they died. You would be in jail for assault or murder if he died. But, hey being a cop allows you to get away with murder, assault, lying, domestic violence, speeding and just pain being an ass. I have no respect for our law enforcement. I think most cops are idiots. I love when I come across a cop and they talk like they are better than evertone else.. I usually ask thme if they have murdered anyone lately?? It usually shuts them right up. LMAO.. Lesson here is... if you wear a uniform you can pretty much commit assault and murder and get a away with it. What a joke
I think this is BS, just because some stupid broad pointed out the wrong person he has to probably die because of it. I don't blame the guy for running he was probably confused as I would be too. I'm sure the cop could have used less force especially if the guy was slowing down at that point but no of course they try to act like the fricken hero and turn out to be a lot less than that. I feel sorry for the poor mans family who has to deal with this crap if it were me someone would have hell to deal with.
