My mom never let me have Barbie dolls when I was little. She thought they were too exploitative (I got 'The Sunshine Family,' instead. They had many harrowing adventures on the wooden boats we floated down our stream). So I bet my mom would appreciate the parents who are up-in-arms over Mattel's new 'Tattoo Barbie.' Seems Barbie's turning 50 and needs to update her image, so her newest version comes with a tattoo and sticker tattoos for the kids. A lot of parents worry that sends a bad message to their little girls, and they want Mattel to stop selling the doll. There's nothing like parents' protests to fuel sales: 'Totally stylin' Tattoos' Barbie is selling out in stores, and Mattel has no plans to stop selling the doll. Wonder what Ken thinks of it all.

I think this Barbie might just take the cake when it comes to how the doll is marketed. I guess Mattel had to up the ante in competing with Bratz dolls. I had Barbies as a girl, the fanciest one being Ballerina Barbie. I didn't even get Malibu Barbie with the tan lines. While I can see how some people can argue in her early years, Barbie could be a role model for aspiring to different careers. It seems now, she's just in it for the celebrity culture of clothes and makeup. Sort of makes me glad I'm a mother of boys.
I think that tattoo Barbie is a little too late on the scene to have an effect on girls getting tattoos. Plus there is already a show on TV which influences girls about tattoos. We can only hope that Ken gets beefed up and a couple of nice arm tattoos and maybe a new name like Hell's Angels Biker Ken or Sailor Ken. GI Joe has needed some serious competition for years. It would be nice if Ken came with a Harley Davidson bike too.
Barbie is stupid, always has been, always will be.
First, there is already a Harley Ken and a Harley Barbie doll. You can find them at harley davidson. Anyway, fake tattoos have been around for YEARS, why is everybody so upset that barbie now has them? at least they're cute tattoos and not barb wire or blood and guts or naked women tattoos. I dont see a problem with this new barbie, i think its adorable really.
Well is Barbie's tattoo at least on her lower back like a traditional tramp stamp? I have to laugh cause when I was 18 I thought "the bigger the tat the more free I was!" and got a lower back tattoo. Now I have a good office job with wonderful conservative older people and I a happened to bend over one day (I ALWAYS have long shirts and 99% of the office doesnt even know I have a tattoo) and a heard a gasp behind me. The lady who saw it is a gardner and my tattoo is all flowers that are quite large and after a good giggle its not that I regret getting it...but teaching our kids they are ok will create problems in the future. No matter what anyone says when you go into a professional job all covered in visible tattoo's you better bet the guy or girl who doesnt have them will be considered first. Not how it should be, but thats how it is.
i don't think there is anything wrong with tattoo barbie its not like little girls are going to get to the age when they can get tats and say "my barbie had a tattoo when i was a little girl, im going to get one." some people are just too over protective
