15 and a half years has gone by in a flash!
In 1993, I was a senior at Sedro-Woolley High School. Today, I returned to my alma mater to report on the first brother and sister to ever win state wrestling titles.
When I was a student at SWHS, Cody and Alysia Pohren were babies. Now they're high school wrestling champs. It's such an interesting experience to interview people who walk the same hallways you used to. You wonder how much of their high school experience is similar to or different than your own.
What is clearly different is the attitude about girls participating in what traditionally has been considered a "boys" sport. When I was a student, there was a great resistance to girls turning out for sports like wrestling and football.
As that folk singer so famously wrote, "Times they are a-changin'" -- and this change is marvelous to see. Click here to read more about the Pohrens
