The horror of the allegations related to this case increases daily.
At this point, authorities tell us the 16-year-old mother gave birth to a full-term baby boy, apparently drowned him in the toilet, and then dumped his body in an alley garbage container.
One can speculate on the story behind the alleged crime: the lack of parenting and/or guidance this teenager may received herself, the fact that police say her mother (the would-be grandmother) brought the 6-plus-month pregnant teen from Pueblo, Colorado to Port Angeles to stay with her father, the living circumstances of the teen once in Washington, moving in with her father and several other adult men and children in Port Angeles while reportedly concealing her pregnancy.
Yet, the teen chose to continue her pregnancy to full-term. Port Angeles' police chief says the pregnant teen never contacted DSHS, CPS or other authorities for help with placement of her baby or to consider what options she would have when she gave birth. If she had, she would have learned that under Washington State law, she could have abandoned her newborn at a hospital or staffed fire station within 72 hours of birth without fear of prosecution, giving others on lengthy waiting lists an opportunity to adopt her unwanted son.
