It's almost halftime, and we can't really say there is a score in this trial, with the exception of the objection count. (View minute-by-minute updates from the trial here.)
I'm no legal scholar, but the city's attorneys have asked some obviously leading questions to people on the stand and have been shot down by Judge Marsha Pechman. There was one point this morning when the City's head lawyer, Paul Lawrence, told the judge it would be good to break. I was in the courtroom, and don't think Pechman appreciated it. She took a long pause, appearing to be a bit irritated, and then called for a recess. I don't know if you can read anything into that in terms of the outcome of this trial, but it has been interesting to watch these two high paid attorneys, with high stakes, and high pressure, operate. Remember, Judge Marsha Pechman is the one making the decision on whether the Sonics will have to stick it out in Seattle. |
