So who needs a newsroom? Take a look at the KING5 News Eastern Washington Mobile Olympic Bureau. This is Mission Park in Spokane, a nice shady place for lunch on a hot day, in between morning and afternoon video shoots. Two laptops, a digital HD camera, a blackberry, two cell-phones and we're able to do most of the business we need to do.

Download files from camera to lap-top, view and log interviews, take and send snapshots with the Blackberry, plug into the internal newsroom communication system back in Seattle, send and receive email, blog from the picnic table, have a sandwich and a soda at the desk and pack it all up and go in a matter of minutes. Of course there are computers and human beings involved so it doesn't always work exactly the way it is supposed to, but it seems to get the job done. We've seen lot of this in the news business in recent years as the challenges and dynamics of collecting, producing and disseminating news evolves with the introduction and creative use of new media. Just a hint of things to come I expect.
Picnicking in the park, I'm Allen Schauffler, KING5 News.
