I first heard of the band "Insane Clown Posse" several years ago. Until recently, I didn't even know they were still making music, let alone that they had a large following of hardcore fans called, "Juggalos." Police say some of them have formed small gang-like groups and are causing trouble. (Read the full story here.) So devoted are some of these so-called "Juggalos," they've legally taken "Juggalo" as their last name. Anyone who knows me knows I love music. But I can't imagine changing my name to a band of which I am a fan. What do you think? How does Rob "Smashing Pumpkin" or Rob "Pearl Jam" sound? 31 Comments |
Well, I'm changing my name to Eternity Juggalo when I marry Dave Juggalo next week --
I have to say its bogus that Dave's even mentioned in this article; One - They're NOT a gang, Two - He wasn't even in town this week, and Three - I can't watch the video but I'm told Juggalo was even spelled wrong a few times in the graffiti -- who the hell would spell their last name wrong??
Being a fan of the Insane Clown Posse and being a Juggalo myself, I can tell you this is not what the band and what fans like to see. We are embarrassed to even associate those "juggalos" with us. We know that the music may have violent lyrics, but just like a horror movie, its entertainment. These people give the good Juggalos a bad rep and makes us embarrassed that we must hide our faces or show our love for something that someone else makes us look bad.
...go to the "juggalos". I realize plenty of the ICP fans may be law abiding citizens, but clearly there is a hardcore group that are so into it they confuse the drama of the fantasy with reality.
Gotta be pretty into it to change your name to "David Sadistic Juggalo". Oh, and a special @sshat of the month award to Dying4Eternity, who is marrying "David Sadistic Juggalo, who goes on trial soon for burglary, destruction of property, and assault. Yeah, you're a real winner there, Eternity. Couldn't even read or listen to the point, which didn't say David was directly involved, just that there's a possible connection to juggalos, and that it might make sense as retribution for the arrests of juggalos in Lynden for the assault, theft, and destruction of property.
Nowhere did it say David did it, but easily enough, he could have wanted and asked for it to be done by other juggalos he's friends with. Or, someone could just be using the jugallos as convenient cover for their own mayhem. Of course, that's because the jugallos have opened that door by actually doing violent and illegal acts here in Whatcom County. Oops.
dude i didnt no they were going around causing a whole bunch of trouble. all i know is there music is the bomb son!!!
ICP fans causing damage and vandalizing property ????
Say it ain't so....
This just exhibits that anyone who is a fan of any band or group is capable of being a PUNK...
ICP is NOT MUSIC ( neither is Kenny G )but you don't see his fans going around slashing tires do you..
Ok bad analogy but you get the jist of it.
wether these guys are true fans of ICP doesn't matter, they are nothing more than mis-guided, immature PUNKS!!!!
These hoods committed crimes not in the name of insane clown posse or the name of a juggalo they committed these crimes in the name of stupidity. I am a hard core insane clown posse fan "JUGGALO" and have been for over 10 years now i have never and will never commit a crime. There will always be people that are going to do something stupid and those people always have some type of interest or hobby does that make anything or anyone related to those interests or hobbies responsible for those people's actions, NO. Therefore don't blame others for the actions of morons. Insane Clown Posse themselves would not condone there actions. Unfortunetly for ICP alot of there fans are kids and as we all know kids are gonna do stupid things without thinking. I fully believe these kids should pay for there crimes but i dont like the word JUGGALO lumped toghether with idiocy. Real JUGGALOS are about being family with one another and helping each other out. I personally have done good deeds for other juggalos and in turn have had good deeds done for me by juggalos. My piont is i can go spray paint RASCAL FLATTS on a bunch of police cars does that mean that is typical behavior of FLATT fans or the group itself, NO. So in conclusion give punishment where punishment is due but dont think badly of something that some bad apples try to own as there own. Visit a Juggalo website for yourself and ask a REAL juggalo about what they think of this behavior because i gaurantee im not the only one who is standing up for something that i believe is good and deserves a fair chance, before being judged.
Why is anyone suprised that music loaded with hatred and violence would incite the same?
I too am a huge fan of Psycopathic Records (the label ICP owns), and I am a responsible family man with a great job & family. Just because you listen to a certain kind of Twiztid music doesn't make you a bad person. If you all truely knew the message that ICP and Psycopathic bring in general you would have a completely different view of them. THEY ARE ABOUT GOD AND DOING RIGHT. If you doubt me, listen to their music. but keep in mind they had to put the wicked "stuff" around it. I too am ashamed to have those punks pretending to be juggalos. Just because you listen to the music DOES NOT make you a juggalo. Those kids are juffalos.

Yes, he is serious. If you don't believe him, or me, or any other juggalo that replies confirming it, the final song on their sixth jokers card (which are the CD's where the majority of the hidden messages are found if you listen closely, and realize who the comic book style violence is directed at,) states it clear as day. (Sorry for the run-on sentence...)
The song is called "Thy Unveiling" download it and listen for yourself. This is a quote from the song (copied off of www.letssingit.com and slightly edited by me for better spelling)if you feel it to be a waste of your time to download it and listen to it. (Note: the following quote, does contain some swears. If you are easily offended by cussing, you may not wish to read the following.)
"...The messages and hints were there, all though most never picked on 'em. We snuck 'em in subliminally with that wicked sh*t around 'em. We mentioned more and more of this on every Jokers Card. The Bottom line always the same, you ain't have to look hard. We wickedly kick it, inflict it, you get it, get with it and dig it we don't preach it flat out, 'cause some ninjas dont wanna get with ya, they quick to forget ya without thy hatchet and get-out. So we rose the Hatchet do or die now juggalos standing tall, after all six have risen the end of time will consume us all. It ain't got nothing to do with us, it ain't Psychopathic Records! All we doin is pointin sh*t out to you we in this together! Who's behind the Dark Carnival, the Gatherings and the Hatchet? Who's behind Dark Lotus, The Circus and everybody at it? Who invented Juggalos and Juggalettes and f*ckin' Faygo showers? What about that feeling you get when bumpin' our sh*t, who's behind the Juggalo powers? This ain't no f*ckin' fan club. It aint about makin' a buck. Don't buy our f*ckin' action fugures b*tch, I don't give a f*ck! It ain't about Violent J or Shaggy, the butterfly or seventeen. When we Speak of Shangri-La what you think we mean? Truth is we follow GOD, we've always been behind him, The Carnival is GOD and may all juggalos find him..."
I could go on for hours and hours pointing out different songs, that are more violent than most horror movies that are coming out these days, that contain hidden messages telling Juggalos not to be racist/sexist/wife-beaters... However, I won't waste my time or yours. I have other things to do. However, if anyone wants to continue this discussion with me, my e-mail is satans_spawn_game@hotmail.com (this is not a personal e-mail, this is just an e-mail I use to sign up for various web-forums that I go to.)

Also, this is to prove his point. If anyone is wondering how a Juggalo from Canada came across this story, I found a link here on a Juggalo News site that I frequent. This is the post from www.faygoluvers.net:
"Some so-called Juggalos in the Whatcom County have been giving the rest of us juggalos a bad name by vandalising the city's vehicle fleet with graffiti. I won't go into details about the senseless graffiti act because you can read everything on the article RIGHT HERE. Once again, bad press because of so-called Juggalos that have nothing better to do but too cause problems for other people that are trying to work and support their families! Pricks! Props goes out to a local ninja called Dan for sending this news in!"
I appologize for such a long post, but I feel this all needed to be said. Those jack-asses doing stupid stuff (not only in Whatcom County) are affectiong people all across the world without even realizing it. However, to everyone that hears about Juggalo's commiting crimes such as this, or worse, stop and think for a second. There are EASILY OVER 100,000 Juggalos in the world, of course there are going to be some bad apples in the bunch. Just like any other organization/sports team/group of people with a common interest, there will always be people that do stupid things.
What I am trying to close with is not to judge an entire group of people based on what a select few that you hear about do. For every Juggalo that commits a crime, there is more than likely at least one Juggalo that has a clean record. Thanks to anyone who has read this entire "article".
This is validation that idiots walk amongst us. Seriously, some people need to get a life.

I'm writing this letter to in regards to the blaming the Insane Clown Posse. Let me first say my regards to the family (you know who you are). So let us automatically assume that someone from this “fan based group” is responsible. It would be my thought that lets blame the Insane Clown Posse for every little thing done that might relate back to them. It’s not their fault it’s the immature pieces of crap out there that did it. This goes all the way back to the “Columbine Tragedy”, I’m sorry this happened but blaming the game “Doom” or “Marilyn Manson” is not the way to go about reporting a story. Yes, it maybe a fact that they listened to Insane Clown Posse (ICP) and can’t spell or they are trying to blame ICP for this but this doesn’t mean that the others that listen to this music are also this way. This has become a great concern of mine the way the reporting is done on not just this but other stories, what can I believe? You never state that this incident the spelling was wrong. Tell us the whole story of don’t tell it at all. Stop blaming others for these types of people’s shenanigans. And yes they are about GOD.
Case in point:
"...The messages and hints were there, all though most never picked on 'em. We snuck 'em in subliminally with that wicked sh*t around 'em. We mentioned more and more of this on every Jokers Card. The Bottom line always the same, you ain't have to look hard. May sound wonderful to some, but confuses the hell out of everybody else.
This lyric might attempt to preach some kind of moral value...somewhere beneath the negative slang and cussing (I had to read this three times before I could decipher it.)
And if this is what they're REALLY about, why do they need to hide it this way? On hidden CD tracks? Why not just come right out in the open and say it in plain English. And this is WHY people lump the "good" Juggalos with the "bad".
Sounds more like streetwise fine print legal disclaimers. And like most legal disclaimers, the fine print is never read understood thoroughly, especially in Juggalo-ese.
And maybe that's the underlying problem. I listened to some ICP CDs (and was revolted by them - sorry, not a fan.) But if 95% of the CD is disgusting and only one (hidden) track makes a crude attempt at legitimizing the Juggalo life (the allegedly REAL one.) No wonder we have punks who get the "wrong" message and make their idols and their peers look bad.
The Grateful Dead NEVER did it this way.
And maybe ICP claims "it ain't about makin' a buck", but coming from a band whose merchandising is second only to Kiss in sheer variety of products available, I'm not all that convinced.
I personally have had to clean off walls with Juggalo graffiti on them (OK, OK, that's from the "bad" Juggalos. But how can anyone tell? And what does this all prove in the end anyway.)
Juggalos claim they are not a gang, but who are they answering to? Last I checked, Jesus never wore clown make-up. Never owned a hatchet or cussed his way through life.
And finally, we're talking about CLOWNS. OK? If you look like a clown, you're going to be treated like a clown.
In other words, a FOOL.
Grow up.
First off, I would like to say thank you to "Apartment Manager" for stating your opinion in a rational, mature manner. Also, this is pretty much a responce to Apartment Manager's post.
I can't tell you why they don't flat out say it in all of their albums, because I am not them. I can however give my interpretation on a possible reason that they don't flat out talk about it.
My assumption on the matter, is that the violence/grotesque nature of their work, appeals to kids that grew up like them. Kids that didn't have a place to turn, or (m)any friends.
Before the term Juggalo was coined, they (Joe Bruce and Joey Ustler, Violent J and Shaggy 2 Dope respectively)called themselves, and their limited friends/siblings Floobs.
A floob is someone who stands out in such a world of hate. Basically an outcast from society. They're not mad of their floobness no, they bask in it.They enjoy the attention of others thinking their ways are either wrong or weird. (Taken from urbandictionary.com definition 5. Which was in turn taken from Violent J's book behind the Paint.)
A juggalo, is the exact same thing as a floob. Sorry if this seems to be getting off point a little bit, but I feel people might understand a little better if they know the kind of people they are trying to attract. The people that are "different" from the rest of society, because they are being themselves, and they don't care what others have to say about it.
I feel that if they flat out said in the opening track to their "Dark Carnival" themed disc compilations, they wouldn't have sold a single album. (Although, they only sold 13 of the first Joker's Card, but that's besides the point, which might come up in discussion later in my post.) People would have taken them even LESS seriously (imagine that)than they did with the paint in the first place. (You say so yourself at the end of your post "Apartment Manager".)
The Juggalo Life, as you put it, has nothing to do with the violence in the music, or anything of that sort. For example, the song Tilt-A-Whirl, if you just listen to it for its surface value, it's a song about a carnival ride meant to kill people. If you look closer into the lyrics though, they are rapping about killing people in it that "deserve" to die. ("...Hold up keep your kids out here They too young to play in there...") People that beat their kids for example. ("...Welcome buddy, what you did Like to punch up on your kids...")
As I said in my previous post, there are probably around 20-30 songs that I could look at, and tell you how they are talking about being a better person, not being a biggot, and about the horrors that may lay in wait, if Hell does exist.
These messages aren't for everyone to pick up. It was put in "Juggalo-ese" so that Juggalos could pick up on the message, in their own way, no matter what everyone else thinks about the messages. Which goes back to being a floob/juggalo.
I am glad to hear that you have actually listened to the music, and have formed an opinion on it over more than just one of their songs. Most non-juggalos that hate on the juggalo community (not saying that you are hating) do-so completely uninformed. Having listened to only one or two songs, if even that much. However, I could go through track listings on the 6 Joker's Card (Carnival of Carnage, The Ringmaster, Riddlebox, The Great Milenko, The Amazing Jeckel Brothers, The Wraith: Shangri-La, and The Wraith: Hell's Pit (which is a lot darker, and not so much about the good... I can't find the words to explain it right now, sorry.)) and list off at least 2 songs from each album that has something to do with anti-racism, God, the horrors of Hell, the darkness that is veiling the world....
I understand that the overlaying violence in the music definately deters people from really listening to what is underneath the brutal violence. Most people would probably be too shocked to listen that closely. They say in one song (Dirt Ball) "...Oh, another thing they love to watch horror movies But you're not allowed to be scary on a CD They tried to ban this one group ICP..." In the song, they are "Aliens" from another planet who came to scope out the earth to see what life on the planet was like. Very good song, and shows a lot of what they feel about the way the world is.
The "punks" who get the wrong message, may not even be Juggalo's neccessarily. It might just be people who go around and are shit-disturbers and put it on the Juggalo community because they don't like Juggalos for an unknown reason. For example, a group that goes by the name Juggalo Holocaust (I havn't actually looked into them at all, because I don't really care about them) and others like them. I read this in a Juggalo forum I frequent. "[they are] people in the states dressing up as juggalos or something to attract others and then raping or beating or even killing them"
Just because they spell Juggalo in marker/spray paint or whatever (lots of the time it is spelled wrong, I recently read an article where it was spelled Juggilo.) doesn't neccessarily mean it was a Juggalo. Now, of course, that isn't always the case, but, you can't have any group with 100% law abiding citizens who never do anything wrong. I am not condoning anything Juggalos do for the wrong, I am just saying that there are also Juggalos out there going more than the extra mile.
I don't understand the Grateful Dead comment, and it is 3 am so I don't really feel like looking it up to see what the comment is about.
The merchandise, for all I am can fathom, isn't directly managed by them. That would be handled by other people. Yes, they make money off of it, but they don't design the clothes, they don't say how much new stuff is put out, and how much variety is available, that is all handled by other people. I am assuming that as far as they are concerned, those lyrics ring true. Why would they care if we buy their merchandise? They are telling us to be who we want to be and not follow the leader. So, why would they tell us to buy their stuff to be more like them, or any other Juggalo? That would be going against what they are talking about, correct?
Sorry that you have had to deal with the "bad" Juggalos, but, have you ever had to clean graffiti off of your walls that was not Juggalo related?
Juggalos don't really "answer" to anyone any more than anyone else. Just because they have a sense of belonging in the Juggalo family, doesn't mean that they answer to ICP, or any other artists on Psychopathic Records. I can only speak for myself, but if the put out an album, and at the end of the album it said to go out and kill everyone I see, I won't. That's when I would start to re-think being a Juggalo. Until that day happens (which it never will) I will be a Juggalo.
The concept behind them painting their faces like clowns goes along with their misconstruities. The Dark Carnival would need clowns to make it a carnival, correct? You can't have a carnival/circus without clowns, it just wouldn't be complete. Also, it added annonymity to them. They could live a normal life outside the music because nobody knew what they looked like. However, once they started getting tattoos all over, it became more and more obvious who they really were behind the paint.
What does growing up have to do with anything? I am 24 years old, I live on my own, I pay my bills, I work 48+ hours a week, I don't do drugs, I very rarely drink, and I have no criminal record, and never had a criminal record before I was 18 either. Adding that comment, just shows that you might not be as open minded as you appear at first. Those two words say a lot more about you, than the rest of your entire responce IMO.
Again, thanks to anyone who read my enormous post.
I'm sick of hearing people say that juggalos and juggalettes are gangs, becuase were not were not like all of the other morons who think that they are bloods or cripts, were nothing like that and people(police, and others) dont need to be stereotyping us for the music or the clothes we wear. I think( and most juggalos/lettes) think that its not right that we are always stereotyped. Its not fair. Im a lette, and i get in trouble all of the time when i dont even do anything, i get in trouble beucase the administrators think that just becuase were different that were the cause of all the trouble, but soon the will all change.

Attention all Juggalos: I am writing a book about you. Honest, real, no fronting. The bottom line is this, and only ninjas are gonna get what I'm saying. The Cards have touched on my life, as has the all of you out there, and I feel very strongly about this book. I'm not going to lie, I'm going to tell it like it is, and I'm not going to be fake. That wouldn't even be right. But to all the rest of you, even if you hate this band, if you think they are the spawn of that guy down there, contact me as well. Send me newslinks about negativity and gangs claiming to be a part of the Carnival. Bring me your proof. I would appreciate it very much. As far as you ninjas out there go, anyone who contacts me I will not open files until trust is established, so please don't send them. I will be creating a questionnaire within the next week to share with all who wish to fill it out, one for fans, and one for all of the rest. I am a fan, but I can be objective. Thank you very much and contact me at thomasaldredge@yahoo.com

Saw a group of these morons harassing a kid for nothing. A couple of us ADULTS stepped in and took care of the situation. Little clown wannabe morons dont have the guts to come back and face people who wont put up with their cowardly crap. Morons!!!
In response to Juggalo Smasher's comment, I just have one question. If it had been a group of, say for example (absolutely no racism intended), Jewish people picking on a kid, would you then call all Jewish people morons?
I could take ICP or leave them. I don't like scary movies either, I guess I'm just weird like that. But in all honesty, if you don't understand that this whole argument between you all has nothing to do with ICP, then really there is no hope for our society. This goes far beyond clowns, make-up, graffiti and crude lyrics. If not ICP and the Juggalos, it would be another band, another group, another gang. Kids, teens, young adults (and even some older adults) will always have bad seeds among them. And until we as a community stop trying to toss the blame around and argue about it merely for the sake of arguing (face it- the internet is a haven for instigators), there will always be a new group to blame for the same old problems.
Anyone who thinks they are down enough to change their name to something like David Sadistic Juggalo is most likely a poser! and anyone who thinks that just because someone is a Juggalo means they're in a gang really needs to listen to more than just the lyrics and try to see the deeper meaning of the music! like the song "Under the Moon" By: ICP that song is about loyalty and there are many more songs that have deeper meanings! Dont Believe me than look at this website and listen to the songs it talks about and you will see that the music isn't just about Murder, Sex, and Drugs. http://www.juggalofaith.com/?url=hiddentruth.php
SHUTUP!! Im 11 years old im a all day all nite juggalo,i cp is the best and there not a gang im 11 i would no
Alright I was one of the Juggalos involved in the Lynden, WA thing. Im a Punk huh? does anyone know the whole story why we did this? I dont think so, so quit reading that brainwashing newspaper BS. The whole thing was it had nothing to do with being a juggalo the only thing it had to do with was drinking to much and overreacting. Im sorry for what happend but I cant change it, I have to accept it and I will be punished. We were not gang bangin and never went around punking people, we all have our own lives and make choices. The paper said Gang signs were thrown up thats BS, There are no gangs in Lynden so thats a lie, the paper manipulated the whole thing like it always does to get people fired up just like how it lies all the time about the war in Iraq changing the story to get people to read about it thats how they make their scrilla. Also about the Graffiti, that wasnt us it was some punk ass trying to get us in more trouble. The kid spelled Juggalo wrong for one he spelled it Juggo or something like that. We never went around vandalizing anyones belongings or did any Graffiti. About Dave Juggalo you dont know him so why you trying to judge him the whole thing is hes been down since day 1 thats longer than anyone of you has been down so trust me he knows what being a Juggalo is all about, he made a mistake and hes sorry for it just like the rest of us. Some of you Juggalos are whining about "oh now people think im bad when I go around town" Man shut up and quit saying were making you look bad you make yourself the way you wana look so dont go looking for someone to blame. The thing is Juggalos have had a bad reputation even before we did this. Thats why they brought up the Juggalo thing to get us in more trouble. Yea I guess I dont know what being a Juggalo is I thought It was about family and acceptance and Shangri-La and the message in ICP's muscic but what do I know.
Im Sorry to all the Juggalos to myself to ICP and my family I hope that I can be forgiven.
BTW!!!! being a "fan" of icp does not make you a juggalo/juggalette. i was a fan wayyyyy before i became a lette
juggolos/lettes are not in a gang... we are in a big ole family! but just like in any other family none of us act the same! you got your annoying little brother, your cuz who's on crack, your bro who gets into trouble all the time, your sis who aint got enough self-respect... but we still love each and every one of us because we're fam!!!! no juggalo/lette is better than another! Mr. violent J said so himself! and when i said just becuz your a fan doesn't make you a lo/lette. being a lo/lette is a lifestyle! it's about bein there for your fam, not bein a biggot or rapist or a wife-beater. and you don't even have to listen to psychopathic records to be a juggalo, becuz it's not the music it's the lifestyle! Mr. Violent J said that too!
To MFW. I live in Lynden, If the Juggalos are truly sorry and want to stop being freaks getting stared at on the side of the road then maybe you should do something good and stop sitting around drinking faygo and whining about how everyone hates you for what you are. All we ever see of the juggalos are stories in print about the negative things you do. If someone framed you guys for the vandalism then think about this. If people in your community respected what you do then when someone tries to frame you people are more likely to say, "couldn't have been them, they are such nice young men." No one ever accused the mormon missionaries that go around town of anything other than being annoying.
To Canadian Juggalo. Great essay validating yourself. Rationalization is a most insidious drug. But I ask you the same question I ask any Christian that says they do right "cause christ told me to!"
Why do you need an excuse like the lyrics of ICP to arrive at these conclusions yourself? Why can't you just be a nice guy? Why does someone have to tell you to do the right thing? If you don't think for yourself then you end up doing what the catholic church did for 300 years-what hitler did for 10, what mao tse tung and stalin did for 50. That is do what you are told, rationalize it so you don't stand apart from the group and end up beating down those people that "need to be punished." Strange how that beat down list seems to grow, and grow and grow......I bet my name just appeared on it.

That is do what you are told, rationalize it so you don't stand apart from the group and end up beating down those people that "need to be punished." Strange how that beat down list seems to grow, and grow and grow......I bet my name just appeared on it."
I didn't need ICP to tell me to be a good person, and to keep out of trouble. Long before I started to listen to ICP I kept myself out of trouble, or my family kept me out of trouble. I never started drinking until I was just about 18, and even then, I barely drank. Honestly, I know people that have drank more in one night than I have in my entire life.
I would like to point out a small flaw in your logic though. Everyone needs someone to tell them what they are doing is wrong. At one point in everyones life, you don't know what is right and what is wrong. You need someone at that point to step in and tell you what the right thing to do is. You yourself have had people telling you right from wrong. Some people are just quicker learners than others, and have a better grasp at what the moral of the story is.
Oh yeah, there is definately a secret beat-down list for juggalo's that's kept online... ICP doesn't condone people actually going out and killing people, or beating people in the fasion they talk about in their music. It is comic book violence. No different from a horror movie. It is meant to be entertaining, and help teach morals to those that might not have people there to teach them morals. I don't even know why I'm bothering, because you'r probably just gonna throw up you "rationalizing" defense. If anyone is rationalizing, it is the people saying that ICP's music promotes violence and bad behaviour.
Whats up to all the Juggalos?
