Honorary UW degrees awarded after 66 years Bookmark and Share

6:47 PM Wed, May 14, 2008 |

"It is the right thing to do." That's the conclusion of UW Professor Tetsuden Kashima about the school's decision to give honorary baccalaureate degrees to 440 students whose education was interrupted by World War II.
The students were among the 120,000 Japanese Americans forced into government internment camps in 1942. They could avoid camp if they enrolled in colleges further inland.
UW President Lee Paul Sieg wrote passionate letters to other college presidents to accept his students.
"Some were reluctant, others had a long list of provisos," said UW Librarian Theresa Mudrock. She says the University of Idaho flat out refused. Of the 440 honorees, about half have already passed away.
Those who plan to receive their degrees are largely surprised. "This is a wonderful tribute to all of us and I'll always be grateful, said Tama Murotani-Inaba.
Professor Gail Nomura says, "It's a happy conclusion for them that people honor them and respect the lives that they have lived despite this great wrong that was done to them."

Well Lori what can we say..the internment camps were an American homeland tragedy but Lori we weren't making these kinds of mistake over near Pearl..we were enticing Japan in..we cleared the normal shipping lanes so your carriers wouldn't be spooked and turn back. Lori something else happened here in Hicksville.my guess 60 years later..an old American sailor finally staggered out of the VFW and finally got his medal..for blowing up a Japanese mini-sub right out of Pearl..a day before. Why didn't he get it back then Lori? Very obvious isn't it? We knew your people were coming..why were our military left like sitting ducks if we knew. If we'd beaten you there..(we were still sick of Wars in other places like in WW1)..if we beaten you guys..we have only thought..now Hirohito has the idea..but if we get mauled Lori..WW2 is on with us! The Punchbowl, the harbor, Schoenfield barracks, Kaneoi bay.

Oh well if Rosevelt hadn't done it..we were gonna be in it sooner or later. Having gotten into it when we did..it was a little over 5 million dead Americans..later who knows..20 million? I like the articles here. Later Lori I tell why I've been after the liar Hillary 38 years..but I'm not sure I'm done..gets already got the tape..she's gonna try to make Obama take her as Veep..38 years I've been watching her I..looks like I'm voting black this time..unless it works for her...I think she already has the tape..it's her style! Bye bye!

Later on was a USS Pueblo incident..did you read about the sub?

You didn't did you?

We already knew!

I think I'm leaving forever here Lori.

I think it's best..I'm gone.

Been after her for 38 years after she trashed Nixons life a part of which for trying to save mine..I was then a kid on a hill watching a base blow up..and 7 American soldiers die that night...and they WERE coming out of Cambodia and Laos (I talked to the chopper pilots on the right of the Ho Chi Minh..lights freely on at night..guaranteed safe...by the US Congress)but they were killing us..Congress who never says no until it's too late was now too busy arguing amongst themselves about why we were there and dieing..it don't feel good to get stuck in a place where you could die with little or no choice..and Congress just calls it another day of business..nope. Anyway Nixon had the whatever down there to at least try no matter and later Hillary trashed him in part for it..mistake Hill. Never underestimate a woman like Hillary..she's already got the tape..she's gonna try to force Obama to make her Veep! Yup!
