There are no elected leaders, no one here making a last minute pitch... Except Brian Robinson, the co-founder of Save Our Sonics. He's currently standing out in front of the St. Regis Hotel, in Midtown Manhattan, lobbying anyone he can see, or any owner he sees going in or out. He just told me one owner would only say to him, "I wish I had better news for you." Here he is in action:

I'm sure I speak on everyone's behalf that is closely following this story hoping for a positive outcome that the efforts by SOS and the media are well-appreciated and commended. But I think everyone knows the real battle begins in June inside the court room. The owner's meetings, with Stern in charge, was a foregone conclusion that the move would be approved. But the case about the lease is the only real hope the Sonics have in preserving life in Seattle. Let's stay focused and keep our Sonics in Seattle!
i love the sonics people including a mesaage to clay bennett that mr. schultz is suing him so if he forgot about that well that is just too bad. so please don't let our sonics leave seattle david stern that would just not be right!
I am very upset over this approval, as someone who understands business decisions and the weight with that , I 100% disagree with this even as a business decision.
OK. Who is responsible for losing the Sonics? Your politicians. We the fans know what it takes to be a major league city. Why act surprised by the move. We would have had the same results had we not built the Safe and Qwest field.
What a sad day for all of us here in Washington State. We had the Sonics for 41 years so far. Can something be done to save them?
Did Bennent payoff the NBA commiss big bucks for the Sonics to OKC? The KING 5 investigators should look into that.
It is hard to imagine where the owners of the various NBA teams heads are when they voted on this preposterous vote today. Hopefully, and rightfully so, the Sonics are in Seattle for years and years to come. Good luck. You are on the right side of the issue.
Chris,
Great job on pounding away at Stern and Bennett, but especially Stern. He came off as such an arrogant and ignorant jerk after you put him on the hot seat.
After watching the press conference, I have to admit that I'm more fired up and ready to see where the lawsuits go. I have a feeling that the Sonics will be forced to stay here for at least two more years and that buys us time to figure out more solutions.
clay bennet needs to find another franchise to move
I was sadly disappointed today in the NBAs decision to show basketball fans around the world what truly matters to them. Don't let the self-promoting commercials fool you: the NBA doesn't care. Perhaps I should clarify that statement. The NBA doesn't care about it's fans. The only the NBA does seem to care about is it's profits. I understand that it's a business, and like any business it's designed to make money. But, as any business that relies on public support will tell you, you need to look after those who look after you.
It's very sad that "Big Bucks" control all decision making in this country. What is the definition of a LIAR? Gee, I know! People should think about this. Having a clear agenda, before he (Bennett) even began, should have been as clear to Schultz as it was to many of us, no matter what Bennett said. Shame on the NBA, and all that is represented by this go ahead to move. Obviously someone's "word" means nothing anymore, nor does any signed contract. It is clear that everything to do with the "Sport"? has become more about Money, over the years, and all that it can control, and that even applies to many of the Athletes themselves. Where have all the real Sports Heroes gone, and who actually stands up for anything, anymore?
Chris Daniels did an excellent job today representing Seattle and not backing down from Stern. Thank you Chris, we all appreciate it.
This is definitely a misuse of power. I hope that in this case the NBA power mongrels don't get what they want in the courtrooms. Shame on you Clay Bennett for your dishonest buisness tactics and your friendship alone with stern and the fact that you both went to school in oaklahoma should disqualify stern from this process. It is clear by sterns comments after Bennetts e-mails were made public that stern did not care & was going to back up his snake of a friend. 41 years should say alot as to where the SONICS belong. I know my comments won't matter and will never be read by Bennett or stern but, I want to say that I think there should be legislation in place to protect the fans against this happening. Just a reminder for the NBA corporation: without the fans you would not exist.
Since Mr. Bennett and Mr. Stern insist it is only about the arena, I wish someone would have asked Mr. Bennett if he absolutely bought the team to keep in Seattle, why he would even buy a team in the first place that was playing in an unacceptable arena. Since at the time of the sale, there was no new arena being built in Seattle, it does not make any sense.
I think Chris Daniel had great questions for Stern and Stern was rude - I don't believe that Chris interrupted him - Stern interrupted Chris because he didn't want to answer his question.
Lots of people to blame at this time - First the previous owner - and the current owner - Liars all around. I hope we don't let them take The Sonics- we need people to do what they can to keep them here.
That include our goverment people.
Chris you rock..
KC
I personally Don't Care.
Please Sonics. . .Leave Already!!
Ok I know you all agree ....it's time for a new NBA commissioner, now we just have to figure out how to get David Stern....and his current boyfriend Caly Bennett out of the NBA front office and sweeping floors at KEY AREA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, I know you all agree ....it's time for a new NBA commissioner, now we just have to figure out how to get David Stern..and his current boyfriend Clay Bennett out of the NBA front office and into a job they can handle ....like sweeping the floors at KEY AREA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone considered that NBA commisioner Davis Stern might just be on Clay Bennetts payroll? Stern from day one has supported moving the Sonics to OK, he has never once spoken positively about Seattle or keeping the team here in Seattle.
Indeed - kudos to Chris. He exposed Stern as the arrogant windbag that he is (not that we didn't already know that.)
See you in court, Mr. Stern.
Please publish a list of NBA Sponsors... I begin today honoring the NBA with my new Spending habits. If Oklahoma makes more sense than the Pacific Northwest... we will soon see.
I invite the Pacific NW to join me. By the way Mr Starbucks, good luck to you too.
Jesus Christ.....
Stay or Go, Stay or Go .......
WTF....
If you Sonics are going to leave then LEAVE ALREADY!!!!
There are more important things in life than keeping a Pro Sports team.
As if all of Seattle is going to suddenly die off if the Sonics Leave.
Give me a break.
These supposed SOS people need to realize that maybe they should be using their drive, determination and passion to keep the Sonics here and put it to better use.
Instead of lobbying the Legislature for money to keep a pro sports team they might think about asking the State for 75 million in free healthcare for children and impovershied families.
Or how about 75 million to Food Lifeline ???
If Clay Bennet can afford to BUY THE SONICS, then I am damn sure that he has some extra pocket change to chip in and help rennovate Key Arena to his particular liking.
I am so sick and f****ing tired of having these Rich Team owners asking the state for money when it's a well known fact that if you have the money to buy a pro sports team..... Then you have the money to invest in a better facility.
Come to think of it.... Maybe I should go down to Olympia and ask them for $650,000 for a new Condo.... Seeing as how the paint in mine is kinda faded and worn... I mean, Hell, No point in repainting my current Condo if I can just petition the State for a An Upgrade to a new Condo.... Right ???
F**K the Sonics, F**k Clay Bennet, F**K the State of Washington and F**K the NBA.
There's my 2 cents, and an additional 75 Million in Personal Opinions.....
