We now know it as the "red phone" ad -- Hillary Clinton's commercial aired in Texas that suggests Barack Obama is too inexperienced to handle a national crisis.
It shows a variety of children sleeping, with phone ringing in the background. A voice says, "It's 3 a.m. and your children are safe and asleep. But there's a phone in the White House and it's ringing... Who do you want answering the phone?"
Turns out the ad used stock footage apparently from Getty Images.
One of the children in the ad is about to become legal voting age next month. Casey Knowles of Bonney Lake was shocked to see herself in the ad, especially because she's an avid Obama supporter.
Her mother says she's sure the Clinton campaign could easily have found Clinton supporter who would volunteer their kids for the ad. In her words, use of the stock footage is "lame," especially when the first girl in the ad would rather be starring in an Obama commercial instead. Full story.

I like this story, and I hope that Casey Knowles can make a come-back commercial for Sen. Obama.
I was surprised to hear someone (Heidi) say that King 5 News was implying Hillary did something wrong. The only criticism of the ad came from the actress, and her mother, and they're entitled to their opinion.
Gloria Mann wrote, "The young lady in the ad for Senator Clinton has nothing to complain about...Her behavior is very unprofessional."
But Casey Knowles only said she was "mildly annoyed," and also admitted, "it's actually really funny." Casey also said she would vote for Hillary if she was the eventual nominee. I thought Casey's behavior was very professional.
This situation reminds me of how sloppily this Hillary Campaign has been run. Why take a chance that an actress in some stock footage might turn out to be a young, charismatic precinct-captian for the opposition? That, as Elisa Hahn wote, is the danger. But the Hillary Campaign didn't see the danger unitl it was too late. Just like the way she took Bush's word that he wouldn't use the Iraq Resolution to invade Iraq. She found out too late that Bush wanted war, when to others, it was obvious. So I see this incident as another example of Hillary's bad judgement and lack of foresight.

Quote from this Article:
In a conference call Saturday afternoon, Obama's campaign manager David Plouffe gladly accepted the endorsement. "We think that the young actress in that stock footage who's now supporting us has got sound judgment as to who the strongest commander in chief would be," he said.
So I should base my vote as to the commander in chief based upon some 17 year old child actress' opinion? Give me a break...
Here's a much more informed opinion from an accomplished women that has real world experience with Obama and his work ethic, or lack thereof.
From Carol Platt-Liebau's blog, the first female Editor of the Harvard Law Review. She followed Barack in that position. She was six years younger than him when he got the job. This child actress would be better off idolizing Carol that Barack. Here's a quote from Carol's February blog:
This story details Barack Obama's inaccessibility to the press -- remarkable, especially given the almost uniformly glowing coverage he's received.
Well, the press had better get used to it. Barack the glad-hander may give the impression that he's a warm, fuzzy, accessible guy. But his style of leadership -- at least once he has the job -- is anything but. He was a largely absentee President of the Harvard Law Review, and approachability was never his strong suit. When the New York Times' Michael Powell described him as possessing a "Barcalounger manner about him these days, padding about those campaign stages like a man commanding his den," it was all too reminiscent of his style at Gannett House (home of the Review) during his law school days . . . at least when he showed up. Barack was famous for "working from home."
END QUOTE
Read some of her articles. She likes Barack as a person. But correctly, she notes his policies are extreme left wing liberal politics. If he is elected President and enacts his economic, fiscal and tax policies, this country will revisit the Carter Era. He will set off another wave of foreclosures and small business failures via increased taxes on Social Security and Income. The lower income citizens will be crushed when those that actually pay the bulk of the taxes tighten their purse strings.
A vote for Obama is a vote for severe economic calamity.

Here's the pathetic tone to this whole story: People don't want to read about or even bother understanding any part of the political processes and the potential outcome. Another MB poster said it clearly; A nation of teenagers. Has the political process become so dumbed down that now its nothing more than a popularity contest and thats it?? Leddog. Have you seen corporate earnings? Real Estate and financial are sucking air. Why, because people that could not afford the homes they bought didn't bother to understand the documents they were signing. Yes, the lenders are partly to blame, but the responsibility is squarely on the people taking out the loans.
The rest of the sectors are slowing but still producing fairly good earnings. I could argue the economy all day. I'm making money on my investments because I put in alot of time and do my homework. Why do I have money to invest? Because I don't waste it on a bunch of commercial garbage like widescreens, movie channels, stereos, video games, Cadillacs, designer clothes, and diamond ear rings. I live within my means and take responsibility for myself. If I can't afford it, I don't get it. I tell my children no and explain why?
National Health Care is not free. The government wastes 1 out of every three dollars via corruptions and patronage. How can they ever provide quality health care cheaper than a competitive market? They can't. It's a scam to create more of a nanny state.
As I said, if you think the economy it is bad now, let Obama take over and see how much worse it will get.
I notice all of these issues you describe. Thanks the Unions for our manufacturing losses. Thank the teachers unions for the failure of our education system. Thank the democrat politicians of Michigan and Ohio for the failing economies of their state.
The reason I have a job is because I work hard and continue to train and retrain myself to stay releveant in a transformational economy. The industrial age in America is gone, so stop whining and better yourself. Dont wage a class and race war of victimization because you're not willing to sacrifice for your children's future. My grandparents sacrificed for thier kids, my parents sacrificed for me, and I sacrfice for my children. It's called long term planning.
Don't blame me for working hard all my life to get where I am today. Get off your butt and do it yourself.
And don't kid yourself. The national debt will be paid by me and all the other income earners that actually pay the bulk of the taxes. The children of the under $50,000 income earners will never pay the debt. Those of us in the top 5% will continue to pay the debt and pay for all your welfare programs too. It's my debt, not yours. So why don't you just take your mouth off the government teet and SAY THANKS

If you think the economy is in the dumper now, then you do not remember mortages at 18 percent interest rates and higher, inflation at 14 percent and unemployment at 10 percent. Price Controls were another failure of Carter.
That man destoyed more lives than GWB ever has or could. Search google for the secret agreement he signed on his last day of office to immunize the Iranians from any lawsuits or prosecution for the hostage crisis? He set the tone for how the Iranians deal with the US way back then.

Hillary and her supporters are suffering from jealousy and denial regarding the huge amount of excitement that Sen. Obama is bringing to this election.
Some here have pouted about "a nation of teenagers," as if Democratic party elders like Bill Bradley, Gary Hart, and Tom Daschle haven't endorsed and supported Obama!
Even Carol Platt-Liebau, the "proud conservative" that GetReal quoted, admits that Obama "possesses intellectual credentials that would impress even the snootiest resume snob."

Erik W65 said:

jujubee said:
Hi Get Real,
You are right about Carol Platt-Liebau's observations. Obama has everyone so worked up about hope and dreams that they are seeing something that is not really there.
Everyone should reflect for a few seconds. Now we all know that if someone has shown us a past behavior that we can expect the same sort of behavior in the future...right? People don't change unless they want to.
His record reflects avoidance and absenteeism at Harvard Law Review and the Illinois State Senate. Why should we expect anything different from him? Because we hope it and dream it? Honestly...are we all children of divorce that want something that will never be?
Obama was an abandoned child. He knows what its like to hope and dream and have faith. He also knows what it was like to have a parent that just never measured up to his expectations. That must have been very painful for him but it doesn't excuse him from making promises and then not keeping them. Hmm...maybe he thinks that everyone will just think its ok not to keep promises...just like his dad didn't. But let's all remember that we all still have a choice to be different and to honor our promises. But Obama has SHOWN US REPEATEDLY through his behavior that he chooses not to honor his role or promises.
Look at his record objectively. His past behavior is a good indication of his future behavior. It's called 20/20 vision.
GetReal said:
I tried to address the issues papers from the Obama website, but it was too long for this blog. I will break them up and see if that works. I will start with his tax plans. He loves quoting that his friend Warren Buffet pays less than his Secretary as a percentage of income. Well, Warren only takes $150,000 in income and the rest in sheltered. What does he pay his Secretary? Has he ever said that? If Buffet is so distraught, then he should fire the accountants, stop taking deductions, and pay more. There is no law against that. It is easy for a man with $60 billion to say everyone above $150,000 should pay more. What’s another $25,000 to him?
Obama wants to remove the cap from Social Security. Those who make the money already give up 33 percent of their income. Above the cap, he will add another 6.5 percent from the employee and 6.5 percent employer for money I will never get back. Social Security was born out of fairness. Everyone pay, everyone receives. That is not what is happening now. Social Security has become another income redistribution system. The extra social security tax will bankrupt many small businesses. Couple that with the cost of his Making Work Pay programs and you have small business catastrophe. In the end, the consumer will bear the brunt of the costs. I will be paying more money to Social Security than I am allowed to put in my own 401K. If you are going to lose the cap on SS, then lose the 15,000 dollar cap on 401k. This is socialism through and through.
Increase the tax on capital gains. What do you think that is going to do to Senior citizens that rely on dividends and capital gains for income? He wants to increase capital gains from 15 percent to 28 percent. That double taxation is unconstitutional. They pay the corporate tax and then pay taxes on the same money again via dividend and capital gains taxes.
Increase the top tax bracket back to 36 percent. That includes the dividends mentioned above. So the bulk of the taxes already paid by the upper brackets will be even more. Meanwhile, he increases all the credits to those at $50,000 and under. They will pay almost nothing in taxes. Look at the stimulus package. People that normally do not file a tax return are getting a payment. This is just another income redistribution program.
Add those taxes up and you will see that a person could be paying around 45 percent of their salary to income tax and Social Security tax. That does not include the 6.5 percent the employer has to pay. Add in the increase in capital gains and medicare/medicaid taxes and you’re going to end up around 50 percent.
Add in state income tax of 7 percent and a city income tax of 1 to 2 percent and you are at almost sixty percent of your income in taxes. Add another 2 percent for the Alternative Minimum Tax. And do not forget property taxes on top of that to pay for schools and fire districts.
The estate tax should be abolished. It is hard enough to get ahead when you add up all the taxes. And then they want to take half again when I die. How is that not double taxation too?
If you believe all these taxes are fair, then why don’t you buck up and pay 50 percent of your income? Or does that seem unfair? Why should the upper 5 percent pay some 80 percent of the total tax bill? The rest of the taxpayers are basically dependents of the upper 5 percent of taxpayers in a massive class baiting income redistribution program.
And don’t forget that all my tax credits and adjustments are reduced because my income is above the limits. IRA deductions? Don’t get those either. Qualify for any of the programs I pay for? Sorry, income is above the limit. The tax system has become a socialist income redistribution program and Obama wants to make it worse. Any person that wants to get ahead in life is being choked to death by all these taxes.

He says he has a plan to drive the bus out of the ditch. What he did not say was that he has millions of Iraqi passengers riding on the bus. He wants to drive the bus out of the ditch, bring it home, and leave all the Iraqis standing on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Whether you like it or not, leaving Iraq would be disastrous for them and the US. Can you say Khmer Rouge and the killing fields?

Which party is going to kill 1.7 million civilians if we stop providing security for the government of Iraq? Who is the new "Pol Pot" in your new "killing fields" scenario, that we're supposed to be so afraid of, that we would be willing to keep our proverbial bus right in that same ditch indefinitely?

Khmer Rouge is an example of what happens in the aftermath of instablility.
Do you remember the Iraq-Iran War? Half a million dead. Do you really believe Iran will not seize the opportunities a semi-defenseless Iraq presents? They already are. Do not forget the million deaths at the hands of Saddam.
If we leave the country now, it becomes a free for all. The power void will be filled by competing powers from within Iraq and outside out of Iraq. And that will result in lots of killings. The whole situation will devolve into a much broader enviornment of killing.
We do not stay there out of FEAR. We stay there to insure the stability of the Iraqi government and the region. Do not forget - it is Obama that says we are in a ditch. I am just using HIS metaphor to make the point. As it currently stands, the so-called bus is not in a ditch. Barack just says that to pander to the left wing voting block of the Democrat Party.
The troops are not there forever. You keep them there until the Iraqi army is truly competant to defend the country - or they ask us to leave.
I understand all too well the costs of this war in dollars and lives. But to underestimate the enemy now and walk away as Barack wants to is an enormous mistake. If you can not see this, then nothing I can write will explain it to you. On this I will respectfully disagree.

This is stock footage. Unfortunately, her family sold the rights of this picture and lost control of what would happen to it. The Clinton campaign used for effect, and that is what they got.
She signed the release and presumably got paid. Now she's having remorse? She should contribute the monies she made to the Hillary campaign for opening this can of worms. It's just proof that one can be young and foolish.
I think that it really sad that you "journalists" insist on credit this stupid ad for hillary's "victory" in texas and ohio when rush limbaugh was all over his followers to get out and vote for her....that's what gave her the edge, neo-cons repubs voting for her...our entire election system is such a load of cr*p, it's embarrassing.
hey "I buy footage for my job"
do you have any proof that obama stole this footage? or are you following the path of Billary and resorting to desperate sleaze tactics?
If Obama's camp bought the footage instead of stealing it they would be on TV waving the license. No one can use footage without having a license. No one except a thief, that is. Compare the two ads, frame by frame. More plagiarism from this national shiny object that has distracted so many voters. His fifteen minutes are UP.
Jerell..wow your psychic skills are impressive...and you sound just like the bush clan, so you must be right...you have no other choice that you can live with...McCain/Billary '08...you should check your facts before you spew fecal matter from your mouth, and while your at it look at the numbers...Billary doesn't have a chance now with her slimy Bush Co. tactics...buh bye
I'm not sure where the last person saw Bush tactics in the former poster's claims. I understood what he meant. This really is about Obama stealing the footage. The two ads are on YouTube. Compare them yourself. Stealing speeches, stealing footage. What's next, stealing the election?
I'm so glad I voted for Hillary.
If the Clinton's Camp thinks, as Jerell above does, that Obama is guilty of theft of footage, why haven't they made that charge?
Maybe because they don't want to talk about how Obama's red phone ad effectively questioned her judgement? She was duped by a dope, after all, into giving Senate approval for the costliest foreign policy blunder in US history.
She had a good ad. Face it! It made Americans step back and think. He's not ready to be President. Especially after finding out he has been going behind our backs contacting Canada. What else are we going to find out about what he is secretly doing. THIS IS A CHEAP WAY TO GET NOTICED SWEETHEART. Your family signed the contract. Deal with it!
Did you hear the way that stupid girl was talking.
That blonde girl probably only wants to support Obama simply because HE LOOKS SOOOO CUTE!
I am so sick of these YOUNG PEOPLE giving me lame excuses for why their voting for Obama. He's the MTV CANDIDATE. He's the American Idol Candidate, the pop star. These kids are only voting for Obama for the same reasons why they vote for prom king and queen. Popularity. She found out about it from THE JOHN STEWART SHOW!
Here's a scary thought she was 11 years old when 9/11 happened. She was probably either at school or watching cartoons when it happened.
I'm so mad that THIS IS WHAT AMERICA has become, young and dumb. A nation of Teenagers!
How can white people support Obama? I don't get it. Obama is NOT cute!
I have not read all the comments, but how does anyone know Barack did not buy the right to use the same stock footage? It's stock footage, so it would be for sale to him too, wouldn't it?
Also, I have not seen the ad, but it is not a copyright infringement to use copyrighted material when it is used to editorialize on it.
Just food for thought....
Ya know ~ her parents allowed the filming ~ Read the fine print before signing anything. Things come back to haunt. Doesn't matter which candidate you support.
Lesson learned ~
READ THE FINE PRINT BEFORE SIGNING ANYTHING!!!
Here's the pathetic tone to this whole story: People don't want to read about or even bother understanding any part of the political processes and the potential outcome. Its easier to watch TV and toss an opinion out about an 8 year old girl who 9 years ago, was likely suckered by her parents and a film maker to do a put-it-in-the-file-for-later-sale- TV spot for a few bucks and a possible trip to Hollywood. Another MB poster said it clearly; A nation of teenagers. Has the political process become so dumbed down that now its nothing more than a popularity contest and thats it?? A sporting event with cheerleaders, winners and losers? Is that all people really understand? This white person/black person/female/male argument comes from those of you that get your news and education from the Cartoon Network. And by the way, MB Poster Get real, read your last sentence.
"A vote for Obama is a vote for severe economic calamity". Seriously? Get your 10 key out right now and do some math. How's the ol' economy doing now? This minute? You apparently still have a job, haven't noticed that fuel prices are up over a buck, don't buy foreign goods, think the national debt is only on someone else's P&L statement, go to Canada to get a good deal on shopping, believe that spending 12 billion a month for a war is good for the economy and the stock market is in a "correction" period. Revisiting the Carter era?? We have a 21st century version of that going right now...
No one would have known ANYTHING if this family had not taken advantage of this publicity stunt.
Who cares about a snoozing 8 year old child.... It doesn't mean that this child even supports the ad maker/user/procurer....
Get real people....ledog3 should have opened your eyes.
There's more to politics....
We need to actually vote for the candidate that will represent the best for the USA.
Unfortunately, we keep putting in "fixes" to change the flow for the "party". Party politics. BAH HUMBUG!!!
Although ~ it's too bad that not everyone will take the opportunity to use one of their most greatest rights.
VOTE!! Don't just jaw!!!! Make a difference!!!
After reading all the Hilary supporters bashing Obama and Obama supporters doing likewise on this blog, I have this question.
When one of them loses the nomination, will you vote for the Democrat you didn't support or vote for McCain?
If the Democrats have a real chance to win, the in-fighting needs to stop.
Get Real is right.
Take responsibility for yourself. A home mortgage is probaly the most important document a person signs in their life. If someone does not understand the terms, then do not sign. It is the largest assest most people own.
I lived through Carter. I got out of school during his administration. He was an abomination.
Today is nothing like Carter Era.
I just dropped back in and thought I should clarify. I agree with you leddog that it is sad and pathetic that a popularity contest seems to be taking place.
The issues are real. Barack, Hillary, and even McCain will do nothing to actually correct the problems.
We need government to get out of the way and people need to take responsibility for their actions. That is the only way to create long term solutions.
Debbie wrote, "She had a good ad. Face it! It made Americans step back and think."
The ad only ran in Texas, and Hillary won the primary there by less than three percentage points.
Tom Daschle and Gary hart are trying to remain relevant. Daschle got voted out because he was a political hack. He wants to get back on the government dime in a new administration.
And Yes, Carol acknowledges his intellect, but she also acknowledges his policies are standard left wing liberal.
Is he a charismatic, smart man? Yes. No one can deny that. It is his positions on the issues that are so horrible. And that is the point, It is not about charisma, it is about policy.
Get Real,
What do you find "so horrible" about Sen. Obama's positions?
Obama on the War in Iraq.
It was very easy for Barack to say he was against the war. He did not have to vote on it. He wants to leave Iraq immediately. I wish we could get out, but as he said, the bus is in the ditch.
Try Again,
I can't understand the analogy you're trying to draw. Iraq in 2010 = Cambodia in 1975?
Dear Ms. Casey Knowles,
I am just baffled with your words. You say that the reason you are campaigning for Obama is because of his message of hope. What hope? You obviously have not heard of the old adage which goes, "A nation which kills its own children is a nation without hope." With Obama trying to outdo Clinton in being pro-abortion (which is legal until the 9th month of pregnancy. Crazy isn't it?), you are campaining for someone who will lead us to hopelessness. Until the Democratic Party changes its platform and stops the annual murder of 1.5 million innocent babies by abortion, please redeem yourself by dissociating yourself from the hopeless Democratic party.
