Washington’s public disclosure laws are tough, but not as tough as you’ll see in other states. Here, if a court finds a governmental agency wrongfully withholds documents from a citizen, the judge can fine the agency between $5 and $100 a day for each record not turned over in a timely manner. One state over, it's way tougher. In Idaho they’re talking about personal accountability to discourage government secrecy. A judge can fine a state employee, not just the agency, $1,000 for breaking public disclosure laws. And down in Texas, a public official can be charged with a misdemeanor and receive a fine for not turning over documents. 4 Comments |
the people responsible for this should face jail time. how are they getting away with this. if it was girls from a wealthy family, this would be totally different. those girls deserve alooot of compensation for this. in the millions at the very least. how devastation to have that happen in the first place and then have the gov,,, who is suppose to be protecting them, LET IT HAPPEN WITHOUT HELP.!! and hide it?? get with the party people. lets see it happen to your children and see what you would expect.
I think that this is what is wrong with our country in general, we are not told the truth, if the federal government has nothing to hide about 911 why can we not see the video from the two other cameras which were nearest to the Pentagon for example, why can we not see the video of equipment that defense contractors in Iraq are destroying off their cost plus contracts, this would help Americans to make those decisions which affect their choice of leadership.
Oh my!!! NOT Another case of abuse by CPS/DCFS. I myself am involved with this system. My 2 children were removed from my care in 2005 because I had an addiction problem. Well, I have been clean for OVER 2 years, done EVERYTHING that was asked of me & then some, & get told that I do NOT have the ability to parent a girl & FORCED to relinquish my 7 year old Daughter 4 days after her birthday. When I have asked NOT ONLY CPS/DCFS, but also my DAC Attorney for copies of EVERYTHING I am allowed to have out of my files, I was told NO!!! I know in my gut that if I DID get copies, that there would be things left out as well. I know that there are RCW's in place stating that I, as an involved party have the right to copies of EVERYTHING in my file EXCEPT for addresses, phone numbers, birthdates, & SS numbers of foster parents, foster siblings, & other foster family members. I empathise with ANYONE that has or is going through this. I am currently in college to become an advocate at the governemnt level to try to get these laws changed. They currently seem to do nothing more than PROTECT THE STATE...especially when the state is WRONG!!! God forbid that the state EVER admit to being wrong or doing anything wrong. The world MIGHT just come to an end if they ever did.
My prayers are with these girls.
Isn't it interesting that NONE of stories about government fouling up, covering up, acting irresponsibly, or deceiving the public ever comes to light because of the "leaders" stepping up and taking responsibility? It always is exposed because of some reporter. Keep up the good work folks!
Just once I'd like to see a story about a government manager or department head step up and say "we recognized a problem and we fixed it"?
Just goes to show you; people with ethics are getting scarce in government.
