If you enjoyed your commute to work this morning, you know the winter weather phenomenon known as La Nina continues to hang around... and, according to Ted Buehner with the National Weather Service in Seattle, it looks like La Nina's staying with us right through the winter.
Northwesterners tend to either love or hate La Nina. She's not bad for the ski crowd - dumping massive amounts of snow in the Cascades. (In fact, the Mt. Baker ski area had a world record for recorded snow fall in the winter of 1998/99 because of La Nina.)
But if you avoid the snow in the mountains, and your goal is to simply get by until spring with as few chills as possible, La Nina is not your friend.
In case you don't know, La Nina is the opposite of the more well-known El Nino.
El Nino makes for nicer than normal winter weather in the Northwest, sometimes even borderline balmy.
This happens when warmer-than-normal water moves east across the equator and creates a pool of warm water sitting off the west coast of South and Central America.
La Nina, as the name implies, is just the opposite. The warm water heads to the western Pacific and the stuff next to the Americas is replaced with colder than normal water.
At first, these swings are not dramatic, maybe as much as 10 degrees, according to the experts, but then tend to have big effects on our weather... even weather around the world.
Scientists saw La Nina coming last fall and were expecting a moderate one. Instead, La Nina has strengthened.
Oh yeah I remember La nina and that el nino thing but now every weather event out of the ordinary is just figured to be global warming. Its a good thing we can show people history of weather and how nothing is out of the ordinary.

The whale watching can not catch the view of the Mormons telling the state of Utah how to vote but the results do. Catch it on the news like the weather! Romney did not serve nor the others except the converts of the Utah bunch and world wide.
The deal 80 years old does not know that God gives wisdom to prophets they aren't elected nor that priests are the catholic religion and they are not married. Give us liberty the men and woman fighting for our freedom and veterans not the morman bible or book of false prophecies. Their leader was like Jim Jones imprisoned for taking young children for wives and teaching he was propheciesing when taking others ideas and spreading them around. Tax evaders like military or draft their barter systems afords their kingdom profits. The tax dollars you and I paid will go to these people in larger numbers children and to foreign illegals their people. Drones of Utah we are not. John McCain needs your support and vote, financially.
Obama no beer for the chidren of Kenya where water is precious or in the USA or world.
