The disaster need in the back of our minds Bookmark and Share

It's something that's growing in the field of disaster preparedness. Attention paid to the economy after disaster strikes. ...specifically jobs.
Savings lives during and after an earthquake, tsunami, hurricane and tornado is obviously priority number one.
Providing shelter is a close second, and as both are closely intertwined.
But what used to get overlooked in disaster discussions is the subject of the economy.

A survivor might say, "ok, I'm alive. I have a place to live. But I don't have a paycheck, or a business. Now what do I do?"
The devastation that's hit Lewis county in the form of flooding, is hitting the economy hard. It could well give us insight into how a much wider disaster in the form of a major earthquake would affect our state.
Some businesses we visited are still pumping out water, and employees can't come back to work. Others are using their employees and even hiring additional workers to get factories, stores and restaurants cleaned up and back open as soon as possible.
Totalling up the damage is just getting started. A job. It's something to think about.
