How Low Can They Go?

10:44 PM Thu, Dec 27, 2007 |

Port Orchard sisters Kara Morkert & Erin Brinkerhoff nearly lost their business in Western Washington's flash flood earlier this month.
They have been closed for three weeks, replacing 2-month-old flooring and putting in countless hours trying to reconfigure their damaged heating system and working to accommodate the hundreds of kids expected to return to their dance & music school January 9.

This week they found out the person who appeared to be their FEMA agent was likely only trying to dupe them out of personal information and possibly a whole lot more money.
The sisters spoke to KING 5 for fear another business or home owner desperate for aid will fall for his tactics.
They say the man claiming to be "Gregory" even went so far as to say "FEMA's policies had just changed" and encouraged them to "put up with the crazy way our government does business."
Although it appears the duo outsmarted a suspected con-artist, they want other people to be on alert for fraudulent FEMA representatives no matter how desperate their situation appears.
If you want to report suspected fraud from an alleged FEMA or disaster rep, call 1-800-323-8603 and feel free to e-mail me at afinley@king5.com.
