Teen plays football with only one leg Bookmark and Share

The story of R.J. Roesbery, a football player with only one leg, is extraordinary. But I found the support he's getting from teammates and his coach equally amazing.
Many times, when R.J. takes or leaves the field, it's on the back of another player. They simply pick him up and run.
His coach, Jim Sandusky, never blinked when R.J. expressed an interest in making the team. He just told him to get clearance from his doctors, and he'd have a spot.
During practice, the team runs a drill where all the players hop on one leg. It gives R.J. a chance to be at the head of the pack - and his teammates, an appreciation for how hard he works.

The commitment is paying off. On Monday, the Lummi Nation School Blackhawks beat their opponents 20 - 6... after R.J., sent in to play quarterback, passed for the only successful 2-point conversion of the game.
Coach Sandusky says he believes the true measure of success is playing to the best of one's abilities. He's giving R.J. Roesbery a chance to do just that, and I think the entire program should be praised for what they're accomplishing.
