I am tired of turning on the News at night and hearing another child raped and killed.Now alot of the predators are in are Government victimizing children even judges, police, teachers, and every other position of authority. No wonder these evil sick perverts get away with this stuff because those we all trusted to end it and given are families a sense of closure and justice are themselves the perverts. (re-offender) term is a joke and it's like saying sorry to the victims family after the crime has been committed. It's a slap in the face to us by the system which is why I will never have or will vote in any election until there empty words are completed. If they were not going to re-offend then they would not do it the first time and sought out help besides re-offender implys to those who original victims were more then one which makes him a re-offender. In a dictatorship like or even America early 1900's these sick people would of beeen dealt with but in this so called American Democracy today the criminals especially these perverts are idolized and have more rights then we do and that is wrong. What is sicking is be federal law these predators are not supposed to be within a certain amout of space between Schools or areas in which there victims are easily accessible but are government puts them right back within school walking distance so they can do more heinous acts in which the police hardly do anything to catch them besides eating donuts and drinking coffe all day. Many of you may find this hard to believe, but often times Level 1 Offenders are very young adults and teenagers who have had consensual sex with a partner who misrepresented their age making it a crime. Sometimes the age difference can be as little as 2 years. I know of a case where a very young child opened a bedroom door and walked in on the father masturbating. Next thing you know he is required to register as a Level 1 sex offender. If you get caught skinny dipping you could end up being charged, and again having to register as a Level 1 sex offender. If your child walks in on Mom & Dad fooling around...guess what you could end up a level 1 sex offender. All it takes is an angry ex, friend, neighbor, etc. 99% of Level 1 Offenders are NOT violent criminals who prey on young children. It is easy for society to jump on a bandwagon without having all of the facts. I urge all people to become better informed before lumping them all together. I have done plenty of research on this topic. Don't get me wrong, as a mother of two daughters, it makes me sick to think of an adult harming a child. But we must be careful about not being so quick to label someone incorrectly.

There diffenately needs to be something done. The sad part is we had a very bad sex offender right here in Snohomish where he grew up and has family living in the area. Sadder is most of his community did nothing and worse his own family did nothing. I think accountability comes when people that have contact and know someone is being hunted by police yet don't report when that person has made contact and worse they know because of past experience he is still a peditor. Wow. I read all of your negative comments about ALL sex offenders. I was wrongfully convicted, put in prison, and still am "labeled" a risk to society. You people have no idea whats it's like to see your life changed and lose your future. I still have tried to have my case re-examined, re-opened, due to the loss of all of the transcipts for my sentencing. At my sentencing, The Judge, Prosecutor, and my hired Attorney, all agreed that I wouldn't have to be a sex-offender. When the day came to be shocked w/ me having to alter my life, and have to registar as a sex-offender. I never raped anyone nor would I ever want to start. I have written all of the newspapers, t.v. networks and even wrote several letters to the A.C.L.U. No one has ever responded. I am trying to prove that I was wrongfully convicted and yet all of you label me. How would you feel? Could you ever trust anyone again? I can't sleep w/out having a prison nightmare and I have been out of prison since 2002. Now ask yourself... Who can help those who truly can not help themselves?

Have you ever taken into account that some people who are NOT a threat to "reoffend" are still being lumped into a category? I offended because my daughter climbed into bed with me when I was asleep and I touched her. I could not prove my I was asleep so I plead out my case. If I knew then what I know now I would have fought it. That was 17 years ago.

I feel as a mother of a sex offender that there are many people that just dont understand the facts. Do you know that if you get caught urinating in public (out side) you can ber charged with a sex offender. My son was charges as a young teen for having an errection around a minor. At his age they dont even know why have an errection. If you don't have a good attorney and you believe in the system you think they would help or understand, dont get me wrong there are sick individuals out there and they need to be tracked, but some individuals just get a bad hand. I will have to agree with one of the comments made here. That if they are charged and found guilty they will have to register. At least we know who they are. It's the ones that are a "family secret" that folks should show some concern about. I know of one individual who started molesting and grooming his daughter at the age of 3. Daddies "special girl" at the time. This went on for years and finally culminated in vaginal penetration when she was 14. When she disclosed to a family member it was with the stipulation that he get treatment but not go to jail. The man was not even charged. Had he been charged and gone to jail, he would probably been a Level III and you would have known who his is and where he lives. This is a man that lives his life freely without anyone knowing....who is able to pick up his grand daughter and spend alone time with her. The point I am making is that the system may have its flaws but at least there is more accountability then there was 15 years ago. I think the penalties for these crimes should be much lengthy and treatment for them should be handled while they are in prison regardless of what level they may end up being. That "in house" treatment should be required for all sex offenders. But that will not happen. Why? Money and (some of you will laugh) the fear that if they have treatment in prison other prisoners will know their crime. Something to think about

People may not take the time to research sex offenders or the different levels they have and what each of them actually mean. It is because no one cares to learn about the sick and twisted animals that hurt our children and families! I understand there are different levels and everyone has a story but you have done something wrong so face up to it. For example if your daughter climbed into bed with you while you were sleeping-I do not believe for 1 second you did not know what you were doing! Sex Offender laws are getting tougher. 25 years for first offense. Stricter rules upon release. Did you know that of 3500 released sex offenders in a year only 3% of the ones who took treatment committed another sex offense. That's lower than any other crime category. The new sentencing laws are creating a more dangerous condition now where there is a greater possibility that the offender may kill the victim rather that risk them reporting the crime. One rape counselor told me that sex offenses against children are becoming an epidemic. This increase in reporting is mostly due to parents and care givers being more viligent and talking to their kids about improper touching. We need the schools to take part in talking about what's bad touching to the kids.
The real risk is from the unknown sex offenders who have never been caught.
It would make more sense to post locations of convicted murderers, drug dealers, burglars since they have a much higher rate of recitivism.

Definitely we need to enforce the sex offender laws and we need to identify those offenders who pose a threat to our children. However, some people out there need to understand what types of offences can count as a "sex offence" these days. Many of the folks who write ugly mean posts about "one shot one kill" have themselves committed the offences some of these people are charged for. Peeping tom, spying on a friends teen age sister while she is in her bath or bedroom, exposing oneself in the park while taking a pee, masturbating in their own back yard and viewed by the child next door...I could go on. For years we ignored this terrible scourge on humanity. Now we have gone over board. There are many men and women who have deviant thoughts and behavior because of the way they were raised. If caught early enough and if they want to bad enough they can be reeducated and rehabilitated. We need to understand as a society that not all of the offenders on the registry are a threat to children. We need to seek the facts and teach our children how to avoid contact.
