Sons seek answers to their father's death in Ballard

5:40 PM Thu, Aug 23, 2007 |

Bad things sometimes happen to good people. But good people can sometimes make decisions about what to do about it.

Darin and Derek Wade refused to believe that their beloved 63-year-old father James Wade tripped, fell, and later died. Instead, they went on a quest for the truth. The Wade brothers went door-to-door in the Ballard area where their father was found lying in the street last month. What they learned appears to confirm that this was no accident -- but that a killer may be on the run.

The Wades uncovered information that appears to validate that their father was hit on the head, then fell to the ground and later died from his injuries. Neighbors told them they witnessed a 24-year-old man saying that he'd hit a man and left him lying in the street. Police arrested the man. He later bailed out, and moved away. Now a $6,000 reward is being offered in hopes of compelling more witnesses to come forward with information that can lead to charges and keep the man in jail for good.

The Wades did not try to become vigilantes. They sought the truth. By doing so, two sons chanelled grief over the loss of their father into a quest to find justice.

I was saddened to hear about Jim on the news last night. He and his ex-wife Kathy babysat my twins for years when they were small.
Jim was a kind, loving, and caring man. He'd come home for lunch so he could visit and play with the children.

I know Jim would be so proud of his boys for seeking the truth about his death. No one deserves to die the way he did, but especially Jim. I hope they find the man who killed him soon before he hurts someone else.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Wade family. Your dad was a very special man.

Why are they not releasing/printing the name of the 24-yr-old suspect? Why did prosecutors not file charges? This doesn't make any sense. I am so sorry for your loss. There has to be a way to find this *guy* that murdered your dad. I'm sorry.

Thank you for your comments.

There are many questions that have come to all of us kids from the moment we were at the hospital. None of us kids could believe that he just fell, and questioned what the hospital was saying right away. The biggest question of all is... WHY did the Fire Dept make the determination NOT to call the police into this from the start? I believe this guy would have been taken into custody immediately if they did. The man that called 911 thought he was hit by a car and said "possible auto and person" on the call. This says that it should have been treated as an investigatin immediately!

There are people that saw this and need to stop and think about their own families and how they would feel if this happened to their father. They would want someone to speak up and tell the truth!
