Pleading Guilty was Cop's Idea?

11:39 PM Thu, Aug 30, 2007 |

Listening to the police tape of Senator Larry Craig’s interrogation after his arrest in a Minneapolis airport men’s room offers a fascinating bit of drama. It seems pleading guilty to a crime was the idea of Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport Police Sergeant David Karsnia.

Karsnia: You can plead guilty, there'll be a fine, you don't have to explain anything. You pay the fine, you'll be let go ... done! Or you could plead not guilty. You know I can't make these decisions for you.
Craig: No just tell me where I am because I NEED TO MAKE THIS FLIGHT. (emphasis added)

In hindsight, Craig said he regrets not consulting a lawyer or his family before deciding to plead guilty to “disorderly conduct.” He said he did it thinking it would make all this “go away” and he wouldn’t have to appear in court. Perhaps there’s a lesson in this -- to avoid making important decisions under duress.

Isn't this kinda like "sign the ticket, for speeding or whatever, or you have to go to jail for not signing the ticket" I believe the senator wanted it to go away so he could continue his life and not have to face the fact he is possibly bisexual
