Brandi Carlile and All the Wild Beasts

11:06 AM Thu, Jun 28, 2007 |

This was going to be a review of Brandi Carlile's Woodland Park Zoo concert last night.

But I took my kids.

They love her albums. Both the 4 year old and the two year old. Brandi's albums get played so much at home, they're part of Camden and Cooper's DNA. Like There Goes Rhymin' Simon ,The Point and Abbey Road still stream through my veins and arteries
So we go to Zoo Tunes. With a backstage pass no less. And we spend ...

Diving in the Northwest's biggest fish bowl

5:38 PM Fri, Jun 22, 2007 |

To call the Seattle Aquarium's new Window on Washington Waters exhibit a "fish bowl" is to be guilty of massive understatement. It's huge; holding 120,000 gallons behind a foot-thick acrylic window roughly 40 feet wide and 20 feet high. I was lucky enough to dive in the new exhibit before it opened today. It's a wonderful accomplishment for the aquarium staff, a wonderful attraction for visitors and an amazing opportunity for me.

Rape accusation and a twisted road to the courthouse

12:26 AM Tue, Jun 19, 2007 |

The rape trial of a Tacoma middle school principal and his friend, an ex-con with a knack for being accused of sexual assault, should prove fascinating.
The story starts three years ago.
On January 31, 2004 a 19-year-old woman court documents refer to as “S.F.” was with a couple friends at a bar.
“S.F.” spotted some men she knew. Guys she thought she could trust. Herald Wright Jr. had been the Dean of Students at her high s...

Meeting Qannik and Beethoven

2:19 PM Tue, Jun 12, 2007 |

I can't decide who's nicer: the belugas or the biologists.

We've been to Point Defiance Zoo several times for my live segments on KING 5 Morning News. The folks there are very accommodating...and they do so much to help us get the shots we need to make for some (hopefully) great TV.

Of course, the shots wouldn't be so great without the Belugas. There's no other way to say it: beluga whales are the cutest things you'd ever want ...

Hope for clear skies, the Space Station is coming!

6:03 PM Mon, Jun 04, 2007 |

Why wouldn't we hope for clear skies; the past week has been extremely habit-forming! Aside from the pleasure sunshine and comfortable temperatures can bring, we have another reason for wanting clear skies-the International Space Station is coming to northwest skies!

'Missing' runner sends apology letter to searchers

9:41 AM Fri, Jun 01, 2007 |

Remember Michael Schreck, the Issaquah jogger who says he fell into a ravine and stayed unconscious for three days, only to return home on his own apparently uninjured? The last time this got mentioned on the blog, the post collected more than 100 comments, most from people...
