Jogger returns after mysterious disappearance

Michael Schreck disappeared Friday while jogging on Cougar Mountain, prompting a massive search and rescue operation. But he walked home Monday night after he said he had slipped, fell and was knocked unconscious in a ravine. Law enforcement says it accepts Schreck's explanation, but one Seattle blogger says she isn't so sure. "I don't know, I just feel like there's something a little fishy," writes Samantha Mastridge in Metroblogging. "What was he really doing out there? Hanging with D. B. Cooper?"

Comments from our readers

Yah Sounds fishy alright. If He was knocked out since friday, it got cold on sunday 40's. It rained hard as well. Wouldn't you think Hypothermia? Did you all so know there was a nudist colony somewhere up there. Hmmmm. (peeping tom) Or maybe he wanted to hide for a while to have people appreciate him? Soiled underwear, wet, hungry, bruising?

From the moment I read the breaking news this morning, I'm sure there's something fishy going on here. I think those 100-200 volunteers and the police who spent their time and effort searching for this man deserve to get a better answer that what law enforcement is accepting. I suspected something going on as soon as I read that law enforcement was suspending search for this person on Monday.. 3 days appeared to be too soon to give up a search. Well, glad to know he is safe, but we need a convincing answer.

There is definitely more to his story than is being told. Aside from the fact it just doesn't sound real. My kids have made up better stories.

I would like to say thank-you to each and every searcher who gave up their weekend to find Michael Schrek. The local media were also committed to getting the word out that this man was missing. It is obvious without any bug bites or scratches or bruising that this was a hoax. Law enforcement should send a bill for their services in launching an all out search and rescue for a grown man intent on playing hide and seek. It is also evident by leaving his vehicle at the trailhead that he was malicious in his intentions of feigning either foul play or serious injury.

I dont buy it one bit. He is probably trying to hide from his wife so he could get away over the weekend and watch some NBA playoff basketball.

The more I read about his ordeal, the more I say this entire thing is a hoax. I agree with one of the comments that said that 3 days is awfully soon to give up the search. Searchers looked for the climbers on Mount Hood and the Kim family in Oregon for much longer. The fact that he is showered and "cleaned-up" with no bumps or bruises has to make us wonder. It also needs to be noted that with as cold and damp as the weather was this weekend, he would also show evidence of Hypothermia. If he wanted a weekend away, he should have just asked for one. His wife and the Sheriff should check the bank accounts and credit cards to see if there was any activity over the weekend. To that, King County should also send a nice big bill to the Schrek family to pay for the search as they did the "Run-a-way bride."

No trace of him by search & rescue. Slept under a log, covered by leaves for 3+ days. Was able to hike a LONG way back to his car, then to his home. Fell into a ravine and was knocked out. YET, required no medical attention. Doesn't sound too fishy to me. There needs to be stiff penalties for these types of things. The costs of the rescue efforts alone will be high. It is instances like these that makes our taxes go up and reduces the effectiveness of our search and rescue personnell when they have to spend all those resources looking for someone who obviously wasn't lost on the mountain.

I think he was with another woman for the weekend.

I wonder if the leaves and the log have a name. She must have been pretty important to fake being missing for 3 days!! He needs to pay the State back for the search.

Staci

Aliens. He was abducted by aliens.

To Mr. Michael Schrek,

I live on Cougar Mountain and I dedicated 8 man hours searching for you. I also watched all of the coverage on NBC and I saw your family pour there hearts out because they feared that they had lost you. I have a lot of experience with combat survival and how to survive in the wild; whether it be arctic conditions, jungle, desert, mountainous terrain... you get the point.

My statement is this: A man who evades honesty is one who is hurting himself more than anyone and the worse thing is to loose credibility. I hope that you take a moment to think about the efforts of the people involved with trying to save your life and honor there efforts by making an honest statement to the public. You are one person and with out ANY relevant evidence to back you up, I hope that you don't think that you can outsmart hundreds of people and embarrass your self in front of thousands. My uncle always told me, "Don't waste time with anyone that doesn't appreciate you."

Sir,

Be advised, you cry wolf again, we will not waste our time again. Do what is honorable and come clean. At least you can start to rebuild your name and your life. You may be in a low place right now and for that I would refer you to a professional agency. Good things were said about you on the news and by your family, live up to your good character as noted.

I'm going to wait for all the evidence before rendering judgment. Lack of bruises, scratches or bug bites isn't enough for me to conclude this is bogus. I run in the Cougar Mountain park frequently, and I am about the same age as Mike Schrek. It is not unusual to slip or stumble on the trail, particularly while running; I have had a hard "headbanger" before while hiking or climbing in the Cascades without significant bruising; and I don't see many bugs on the trails in a wet mid-May, so I can't conclude this is a hoax. I can understand the public's questions about hypothermia, the effects of several days' lack of consciousness, and walking upwards of 10+ miles from Squak to Red Town TH to Issaquah after recovering consciousness. In my view, he's innocent until proven guilty.

Whatever the answers, this incident still represents for me an answer to prayer. On Sunday, his brother demonstrated faith in God and asked for prayers. No matter what other details come to light, it will not change for me the fact that many people prayed, and God answered their prayers.

And I prefer to focus on the good samaritan search and rescue folks. These are good people who ought to be thanked and praised for their dedication. If I am ever lost or missing in the trails, I'll feel better knowing that they are out there trying.

Nobody believes a word of this ridiculous story. I just hope the selfless people who searched for you have not become disenchanted by your deceit.

This Schrek family better wake up and realize they have a con artist in their lives.Who gets knocked on conscience and doesnt have a memory of the events and requires no medical attention. You can see even the sheriff isnt buying it but has no choice right now until further evidence is available.Maybe he should take schrek back to the site and check for rustled leaves. How do you remain in good health enough to walk all the way home after no food for days?Im sure it was risky for the person that screk was with all this time to have to drive him home and have risked being seen ,knowing his car was towed from the woods. He probably had money already set aside for this expedition and didnt need his bank cards,so no way of tracing his steps. It should be a felony if someone volunterily disappears, causing others to be in danger while on their search.Im no detective, but even my teenage daughters smelled a dirty rat in this case. How bout a lie detector?Alot of good careing people came out to support this family,he should be ashamed for using others time energy and skills to find him.One day people wont search for others because too many are crying WOLF.

Regarless of WHAT happened, this guy needs to be ordered to volunteer for training and search hours amounting to the number of hours he was 'missing', as should any climber, hiker, or snowboarder who has caused a similar incident.

No one who just spent four days unconscious in the woods of Squak Mountain without food and water, and without proper clothing, is going to hike in darkness up 1500 feet in elevation over Cougar Mountain to get to his car several miles away (presumably without flashlight) when he could have just walked down the road less than half a mile into Issaquah to get help. And he did this because no car would stop for him as he hitchhiked on Hwy 900? Does he seriously believe anyone believes this story?

Something stinks..and it doesn't sound like Mr Schreck did..he had showered and cleaned up? Where?? Likely story.

I am assuming none of you people know this man but yet you are so quick to judge. I do know this man and can tell you that he is no con-artist. I have no idea what truly happened on Cougar Mountain, I feel for him and his family. If he went into the mountains to escape, I don't know but I do know that everyone that has posted here has most likely done something stupid in their lives. You may want to look at yourself and your past before handing out your self-righteous judgments. Now go back to your glass houses and watch out for those stones.
Oh and by the way, if the story turns out to be untrue, I do think they should pay the county/city back PRIVATELY

Yes we've all done stupid thing's. But people don't just go on a search and rescue in the rain for fun and HE'S IN HIS 40's. If He's guilty than man I'd feel pretty dumb right now. I'd move. Other peoples lives were at risk as well. Poor search dogs devoted to picking up scents for a (livving) couldn't seem to pick one up and keep on it. Wait a minute I watch "COPS". Well you trip and roll down hill how far do you have to be to have a trained animal not pick your scent up and not hear a hundred people yelling your name. Oh yah I went to sleep/knocked out. If you fell that far you would be pretty banged up. Go trip outside in a gravel parking lot it hurts and shows. yah hmmmmm jerry springer needs some more material. If you are right MR. wow! you should change jobs. The office isn't for you. Training people on indurance/dedication/survival skills, I'd take your class.

I have known Mike for many years and can say with great confidence this was the real deal. Mike is an amazing athlete and from the moment I heard he was missing knew he just had to be injured. I also had faith that if anyone could survive days in the woods he could. I have not talked to Mike or his family but can assure those of you that don't know him he is a fantastic, stand up guy that would never intentionally put his family through hell. My prayers were answered when I heard he was alive and home with his wife and kids. I am saddened at the public response to a happy ending. Seems like many of you have become so jaded you can't accept the truth. Maybe more of you need to experience the great family and life Mike has!

I served in the USAF for 23 years as a fighter pilot.

I have been through many survival schools, such as
winter ,water and jungle. We were taught that you
can survive for up to two weeks on water alone. If
you have food you need more water. Mr Shreck being
unconscious part of the time would require less water
under those conditions. Very little energy is being
used. Any long distant runner would be carrying water while on his run. I will reserve judgment 0n his story until it has been proven otherwise.

As someone that was on the search both Saturday and Sunday, I would say don't concentrate on if Michael is telling the truth. Talk to the men and women that donated thier time, money and skills to help located a lost subject. We have all made sacrifices such as missing my sons first birthday on this search. You can show support for the search organizations by sending letters (we always love those :) ), sending out donations or in whatever way you would like to show your support.

The important part is not to concentrate on the negative side of searches, but the positive. He is home alive, regardless of his story that is positive. Many professionals showed up to help locate Michael, this is a big positive for the community.

We may or may not know the story behind what happened, but I do feel that the search community deserves the truth.

Finally, to whomever broght the wonderful Brownies to the search, THANK YOU :) There was a card, but I didn't get the chance to read it, but they were wonderful (And everyone else enjoyed them too)

I'm still mystified as to why they gave up on the search so soon. That's the part that doesn't make sense to me. People have search for many, many days in much harsher conditions.

I think this whole story is crazy! He must be a pretty good liar and his wife must be pretty stupid to believe his story! Got knocked out, unconscious, but managed to walk home in one piece. Maybe he thought about running away for good but couldn't bring himself to it. I'd be pretty embarrased right now.

Oh please. Stop lying and come clean pal.

Your're worthless lying coward all the while watching it on TV with a girlfriend and lo and behold - he shows up as up once search and rescue operation ends.

What you say you walked across to parking lot to retrieve your car? Hmmm... It was awfully dark, wasn't it? I mean you didn't fall to another ravine on the way to parking lot? Uh, you did carry night vision goggle, didn't you?

And yeah, you recall enough to roll under a log and cover yourself with wet smelly leaves? Why hide? LIAR!

Hey LIAR!

Why did you hide under a log covered with leaves?

Huh? Hah?

Knocked unconscious yet recalling HIDING?

"At some point he rolled under a log and covered himself with leaves."

And you with an X-ray vision managed to walk over to the parking lot at pitch black raining night? Yeah I live in Lakemont and it was raining pretty darn hard last night LIAR!

It is sad to read such pessimistic comments about this man. We should all be happy for Mr. Schrek and his family. Seldom do we see such a joyous outcome from like situations. Yes, many good people gave their time, and effort, to search for him. However, being the good people that they are, they should not feel cheated. A happy ending is best for all, and this story should be just that... the end.

Yeah really - let's celebrate someone who lied selfishly at expense of those who believing in doing good deeds.

Happy ending? Hardly. Sad ending for many lost faith because of LIAR like Shrek character.

How memorable - Knocked unconscious yet recall HIDING...

"At some point he rolled under a log and covered himself with leaves."

Mid-life crisis much? How pathetic. You are a spoiled brat, and a manipulative child. Do you really think that the rest of the world doesn't see the melted chocolate chips around your mouth after you've been caught raiding the cookie jar. Idiot.

Check out the PI article. Nice write up.

Best part was the quote from the Sheriff:

The police search was called off Sunday about 9 p.m.

"On Sunday night, we knew he wasn't on Cougar Mountain," Urquhart said. "What we didn't know was (a) where he was and (b) what he was doing."

Yep nice conclusions of Shrek was not in Cougar Mtn and thus suspicion of foul play and rather early termination of the search and rescue.

Prayers for your family, as I think they are needed! I am not your judge though I do believe you will be before one someday.

Thanks to all the selfless, caring volunteers! You are appreciated! You restore our faith in humankind.

May the volunteers be our example and inspire us to contribute to our community. May the needy someday return the gift and give back those in need!

To the folks who are defending Michael Schrek.... Listen up.... He is LYING and you are Buying it 100%...... There is no way in HELL that this man fell down a ravine, hit his head and was knocked unconcious and then rolled under a log and piled leaves on him for 3 DAYS !!!!

If there is any shred of truth to his story, then he needs to come forward like a MAN, tell the truth and take responsibility for his actions and for wasting the time and efforts of those who searched for him.

Should i also note that had he truly fallen down a ravine and hit his head like he claimed then there would have been some sort of indication of such an occurence. I.E., scrapes, cuts, bruises, dirt stains, BUMP ON THE HEAD????

Yet this man somehow miraculously shows up at his house at 11:30 p.m. clean and unscathed????

He and his story stinks and everyone in this city F***in Knows It....... Even John Urquart is suspicious of his claim...... if i were a cop i would start an investigation into what really happened and soon be on my way to havin Mr. Michael Schreck Fit the Search&Rescue Bill....

I'm calling you out Michael Schreck....... Tell the truth..... or are you more comfortable living a lie????

LIAR !!!!!!!

A true lie for sure!Like others said, you just don't pass out for 3 days, get up and walk home no matter how athletic and tough you are. Plain ole' BS. Anyone who believes this story should go and lay down for 3 days in Cougar Mountain in pouring rain, without food, water, shower, pooping, and then walk for miles and still be in normal shape. I don't really care why he is lying, but leave the media out of it, lie to your ignorant family.

ive been lost twice a little further down the road in the last 3 years.(no search party. thank you) my main consern was they they towed his car. for me both times i became lost finding my car saved my life. PLEASE do not tow cars parked in the wilderness!!

I'm surprised he didn't mention Donkey and Fiona, it might've been more believable.

If he's telling the truth he should take a reporter to the log and leaf location to clear his name. He owes that to his family and those who searched for him in terrible conditions.
If he's made this up he should come clean with his wife. I hope he'll have the courage to do the right thing whichever the case.

Dude should write a book and then go on the Oprah Winfrey show.Pleezzzeeee!!!

Accountability in society? It is non-existent. With the amount of resources expended on this search, somebody needs to demand that questions be answered. This is wrong. Just wrong.

Let's see now... you go running on a trail, slip and fall and get knocked out for several days, wake up and crawl under a log and cover yourself with leaves instead of climbing out to find help. When you finally "come to" enough to rescue yourself you just get up and walk out to where you left your car, find it missing, try to hitchhike without luck so you just walk home. You get there and have no bumps, no bruises, no scrapes and require no medical attention, even though you were knocked out for three days. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight...

Everybody, including his family knows this story is phony. I'm going to give the them a free pass for a few days but then its time to come forward and acknowledge that this story is fabricated.

Why he did it, is between him and his family. They are under no obligation to share their dirty laundry. With that being said, I think a public apology is in order and some or all of expenses should be repaid.

Mike, be the man that your family can be proud of and come clean. You will be glad you did.

Who goes for a "jog" ALL day?

He left his house at 7:15 a.m. and the wife doesn't call Police until 11 p.m.? Now he's home safe and sound, in no need of medical attention despite being knocked unconscious for days and today has decided that we will NOT be giving any interviews -- haven't nailed down your story much?

Here's what I think happened. He met his lover in the Cougar mountain parking lot, had fun for the weekend, saw his name and face plastered all over the news -- heard his wife say - "He'd find his way home on broken legs UNLESS he was knocked unconscious"

ANY person who is found or returned safely after a major search, has the courtesy to hold a news conference to THANK the searchers. This guy lets his family do it for him. Class act.

To all of you religious types, note who this is from!

I was watching Michael Schreck the whole time and your all right! Friday morning he actually went to a local sportsman's store and bought a fresh bottle of "Sex Panther", a famous cologne that attracts Cougars, with cash so that he couldn't be traced. Later that night he was being pile driven by a Cougar on a romantic bed of leaves. The Cougar then trotted off and caught Mr Schreck a delicious bass so he wouldn't starve.

The next morning, after a night full of confusion and cuddling up with a log where he strategically placed leaves all over himself to keep warm from the pouring rain, Mr Schreck realized that the Cougar had poisoned his delicious bass so that he wouldn't run off. He lay shivering in the cold for two additional days being "Cougar Handled" (man-handeled)... Eventually the PIMP Cougar that I have formally named George, got bored with Mr Schreck and let him go home. This happens all of the time to the homeless people that live on Cougar Mountain. So all of you early morning trail runners watch out for George.

Oh and by the way, I want some Police to dispatch over to the area and remove all of the homeless types and give them a job!

The man could be suffering from mental illness. He could have had a psychotic incident, or he could have been overcome with depression. There are many possibilities other than having a weekend escapade. There's no need for cruelty. Try compassion and empathy instead of using one man's misfortune to express the unhappiness and pain in your own lives. Your comments are a reflection of you.

I think he should claim he was abducted by aliens for 3 days. I think he would have a much easier time selling that story than the one he has come up with.

Strange, something really strange is going on here. Three days knocked out? Yeah right. There is definately a lot more going on here than meets the eye. I wonder if we will ever know the 'the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth'? If Michael Schreck expects us to believe this crock then his elevator definately does not go all the way to the top.

It's amazing that the morning news is STILL treating this story as if it is a miracle, and not questioning it one bit or making mention of the strange circumstances. Do they think we're idiots? Maybe we are.

It's a damm conspiracy is what it is, I bet the Bush adminstration had something to do with it.

No hypothermia, wearing only running clothes, no injuries, after three days in cold and wet weather? I am a rescue professional and this one screams BS.

THANK YOU to the search and rescue and law enforcement

I suppose if Mr. Schreck were really innocent and grateful for his miracle adventure, he and his wife would have had a nice romp in the hay upon his return. But he probably didn't have much left after his real warm and cosy weekend in his lover's arms.
This tale is better than anything Hans Christian Anderson could write.
Nola May 23, 2007, 7:41 AM

I followed this story from the start. Being widdowed my heart went out to his wife and the family. The unknowing if this man was dead or alive. The fear that they may never find their loved one, or any answers to where he is. I had a feeling that he wasn't there anywhere. My first impression was that he was hiding something from his family, then I found out he had a wife. If this man's story is true so be it, but I feel there is more to it. If it a lie shame on him for putting his loved ones through such delema and drama, in the end he will have to live with what ever happened. We don't have the right to judge, but his family, law inforcement, and all the search and rescue have the right to know the truth, whatever that may be. If it was a hoax he should be held responsible for the costs of the search. On that note I am glad he is home safe with the love of friends and family and not another missing person found dead, leaving the family to try to pick up and put the puzzles back to gether and move on with their lives.

Love and light to all.

It is in Mr Schreck's best interest to come forward with a public announcement of what really did happen. The longer he waits, the harder it will be be for people to accept. By at least saying something would be cheaper than having to move, change your name, change jobs etc...

In the future, take a cell phone with you. They do work on Squak mountain. I should know after having to call my wife at 9pm on a Friday in early May to say I was temporarily displaced(better than saying lost). It's amazing though, I came home with throbbing, scraped up legs after bushwacking for three straight hours through stinging nettle and Devil's club. Maybe next time I should just fall down a ravine!!!

I believe I saw him on the Burke/Gilman trail in Kenmore on a bicycle on Saturday the day after he went "missing". He was not wearing a helmet and was easily recognizeable after seeing his picture posted. Sounds like a mini mid-life crisis...

He should send apologies to the search parties.

I've been hiking Cougar and Squak since I was a kid, and the entire mountain is now surrounded by development. I've followed animal trails a few times just for fun and I've always ended up coming out in someone's backyard. He was trying to hitchhike on 900? Walk North and call from the gas station in Issaqauh...walk south and call from gas station in Renton. He obviously wanted to get away or make a name for himself, both fine things, but to be absolutely caught in a lie and stick with it is just insulting to the people who deveoted their time and effort into the search. Much thanks to those search/rescue volunteers. You have made a great difference for many truly lost/injured hikers at other times. Chalk this one up to training I guess...

I think he fell into 'someone's ravine' for the weekend.

If he was knocked out that long he should have a serious concussion which a CT scan would reveal. His wife should demand that he go see a doctor and get one.

I don't buy his story one bit. He hit his head, knocked unconcious, was exposed to the elements for several days, and comes walking home without any medical attention?!?

Almost sounds like the "Runaway Bride" syndrome.

Mr.Sechreck's family needs to insist he take a lie dectector before they let him back in to the house. If I was his wife, he'd be out until he took the test. He is not only a liar, he is a loser!!!!
I feel sorry for the search and rescue people. To bad they didn't know they were searching for a loser like Sechreck.
He needs to take another jog.

I am saddened at the public response... When prayers have been answered.

Jog on!

Jog-On, Loser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take another jog and look for that Couger, sounds like she likes you.

Mr. Loser's girlfriend saw him on TV. That's how prayers got answered. She told him to "GO HOME"
Mr. Loser,
Take another Jog, with a Hog, and look for that Log.

"What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas"

My family has had to use search and rescue to find my brother up at the pass. Our situation did not end happily because they were not able to get to him in time, although they diligently tried. My brother died.
Mr. Schreck, please tell search and rescue (and the public if you so choose) the real story so that they can use that information to better search and find people who are in dire need.

Take note men. When you want to meet up with your girlfriend and you are married say you're going on a run and have your girl pick you up at the trailhead. When she drops you off too late and your car has been towed, knock yourself out for a couple of days at her place!!!

What a Joke !
I hope the family is billed for the hours 200+ people and other resources spent in looking for him.
How do you "roll under a log and cover yourself with leaves" if you are unconscious ?
How do you escape with no cuts/bruises/ or anything else. Let alone de-hydration from not having food or water for 4 days.

CUDOS to all the people who took time out of their lives to selflessly search for this man. Your dedication and service are appreciated and in no way minimized regardless of how this turns out!

But, personally, my BS meter broke off the scale...

Hey LIAR!

Why did you hide under a log covered with leaves?

Huh? Hah?

Knocked unconscious yet recall HIDING?

"At some point he rolled under a log and covered himself with leaves."

And you with an X-ray vision managed to walk over to the parking lot at pitch black raining night off of Lakekmont Blvd?

Than walked across Courgar Mtn during pouring rain and darkness to I900?

Yeah I live in Lakemont and it was raining pretty darn hard last night LIAR!

A few points of clarification:
1. He wasn't knocked out for three days. He was knocked out for two, WOKE UP, at which point he rolled under a log and covered himself with leaves.
2. He is in excellent health; he's quite capable of surviving in the rain. He was wearing fleece, protected from some of the rain underneath undergrowth, and it didn't get nearly cold enough to cause hypothermia this weekend. Why don't you armchair conspiracy theorists go do something more constructive.
3. Michael wasn't 'showered and cleaned' after he got back; he was shivering, freezing, almost dead. To Sandy especially, who says that she would turn away her husband if he had been missing for three days unless he took a lie detector: that makes you a frigid, heartless woman, and I doubt you actually mean it.
4. Michael Schreck has never told a lie in his life. Before you begin defaming someone, it might be helpful if you knew a tiny bit about his personality. Stop working from your scandal-loving, hateful assumptions; that may be how the media wants to paint him, but it's not who he is.

Additionally, to the people saying that God answered his family's prayers, or that God delivered him back to his family, consider this: If God delivered him, then God put him in that ravine in the first place. You can't attach responsibility to one without attaching it to the other. To say that God did this is to lessen Michael's great strength in returning to his family.

How about this:

Keep your pathetic conspiracies to yourselves, let the man be. Some of the people on here should be ashamed that they have nothing better to do than slander this guy without having the slightest clue of what happened, besides what the media reported. These internet "tough guys/girls" who can type their passive agressive thoughts under the safety of internet anonymity posess the least amount decency and respect for fellow human beings in society. What if he's telling the truth? I can imagine you trolls will not have the same urge to retract your libelious statements and admit that you have too much time on your hands and find pleasure in slinging mud from your proverbial pigpens.

How bout this... i'll give out all my personal info and invite anyone who is standing behind this bald faced liar to come and face me in person..... Michael Schreck is a liar and nothing less.....In my opinion, the only miraculous thing here is the fact that this man was able to disaapear for 4 days and not have any investigation to his claims even thought there was no indication of him having such an encounter in the wilderness....... Shame on you Michael Schreck.... conspiracies or not..... his story is completely full of holes and he and all you defending him are the true conspiraists......

Now what do you have to say????

Step up Mr. Schreck..... what really hapened out there?????

F****IN LIAR.........

Alright, Patrick. You tell me where you live, I'll come and knock some reason into you. Or, you could start to actually think about this and realize that the people who actually know what they're talking about say it's quite possible for him to survive, and the people who actually know him know that he's a loving, faithful husband who's never told a lie in his life.

Patrick-

I would say you have a pathetic life. Are you trying to intimidate people by having them post their info? Oooooh scary! You are just the type of troll I was referring to. All bark, no bite and hiding behind the internet. Go do something with yourself and actually contribute something to society.

Downtown seattle........ come find me......And according to you... he's NEVER told a lie in his life......

BULLSHIT !!!!!

AND YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT PEOPLE HERE ARE SAYING.....

No one has said that he didn't SURVIVE...... we as a majority... ( and you be the minority )have said that his claim of being knocked out and then walking home unscathed is what is being questioned...... obviously if he didn't survive, then he wouldn't have walked home.

People like you are obviously the same type ofpeople who vaoted bush into office and still believe that we are ACTUALLY fighting a " war on terrorism "

You make me sick.

Actually I voted for Gore and Kerry, but nice try Troll. I don't care what anyone says but Schreck, BECAUSE HE WAS THE ONLY ONE THERE.

"Downtown Seattle" is pretty vague. What, are you scared of me or just an internet p*ssy trying to flex your imaginary muscles?

I'm sorry if levelheadedness makes you sick, maybe you need to crawl out of your shell for a dose of reality?

And for anyone who truly wants to meet me in person and discuss this like Adults... i'm more than willing.... step up.....

Otherwise, shut it.

Where is accountability when it is due, that's the problem with this world.... no one is held responsible for their actions anymore.

P.S. Johnny Drama...... instead of having presumptions about someone you don't know why don't you take a look at yourself and decide to do something to contribute also.... something like.... having the ability to THINK FOR YOURSELF !!!!

YOU HAVE A BRAIN, USE IT......

Here's an idea...... why don't we all go and camp out infront of Mr. Schreck's house until he finally comes out and states the truth????

will that satisfy everyone???

Oh, sure. Way to be brave, patrick. I sure know where you live now!

I don't actually give a shit what people here are saying; most of the people weren't there, don't know Michael. I completely understand your claim; what I'm saying is that it's not surprising that he survived, while you seem to think, based on what you think it was like out there, that he couldn't have survived or walked home. The man used to do Ironman, ultramarathons, everything. He's in excellent health. Another misconception is that he walked home in the dark; he woke up again in the afternoon on monday, and was only in the dark when he walking home on residential streets from Cougar Mountain.

How am I obviously a person who 'vaoted' bush into office? You've pointed out that I'm in a minority, and that is in itself enough to disqualify me. How does defending an honorable man from libel and slander have anything to do with yours or my politics?

You know who make me sick? People who don't give a shit about hurting a family who's been through too much, people who want to destroy a man's life and don't think anything of defaming his character.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about? First your "Mr. Toughguy", now your "Mr. Confused".

Here is thinking for myself:

Not accusing a stranger of something when I don't have all the facts or all the story. I don't sheepishly follow the crowd in calling for this guy's head, instead I say let the truth be told. What presumption am I carrying when I haven't speculated as to what happened?

You are really struggling in this blog, Patrick. I'm losing faith in your ability to post something articulate.

Patrick, I've offered. Mano y mano, you and me. Stop being a pussy.

Hey, michael, why don't I camp out in front of your house and call YOU a liar and an adulterer? How does that sound?

For all of you who are starting to gang up on this guy patrick, think twice..... he has a very valid point about this jogger and his supposed claim about being knocked out......

as do the other95% of the posters on this thread...... those of you who say that jogger isn't lying only need to realize a ridiculous story when you hear it......

Would you believe me if i said i went hiking and was attacked by a cougar but i had no cuts, no scrapes from fighting the cougar or blood stains???

Mr Schrecks story is also along the lines of inconsistent facts..... at the very least this man should have a bump on his head, soiled clothing, and some form of wear and tear exhibiting his 4 day ordeal.......

Show me and the rest of us proof otherwise and me and likes of us will go away..... until then, stop arm chair quaterbacking and discounting what is obviously the real story here.

Obviously? You don't know what you're talking about. How do you know what his clothes were like? How do you know anything about his condition? He didn't have any outward signs of concussion; that's all you've been told, and now you seem to think that he jauntily walked back into his home in full business attire with pockets full of hooker coupons. Honestly, you have no business talking about what's obvious and not.

Oh, and who's 'ganging up' on anyone? I just read through a massive list of people accusing a man I care about very much of being a liar and an adulterer, and me and one other person are taking umbrage to it. Don't play the underdog card here.

Michelle-

The story I heard was from the media, which, some of us know is usually far from accurate. What Nietzsche and I are trying to say is hold your mud back from the guy and his family until he speaks for himself. I don't care how ridiculous the story is...until it's proven otherwise anything is plausible.

People act so tough when they can't be held accountable for what they say. Those people are cowards. Think before you speak or grab a nice big cup of STFU.

Nietzsche and Johnny Drama for the win!!

VICTORY!

Simmer down and focus people!! You guys are getting into a cyber-fisticuff over nothing.

I'm disappointed with the sheriff's department for not investigating into this matter. Afterall, they did employ all those officers and a helicopter to search at the expense of us taxpayers. If it was a hoax, Mr Shrek or his family should have to reimburse us. I really don't care so much what happens within the Shrek household after that.

o.k. Johnny drama maybe before you tell the rest of us to get a cup of -----. Cut your nails and wipe off that makeup. The comments left, are disscussions. Nobody knows? Anyboy can say anything like you of course. But I just can't seem to see why your so upset. I mean gosh maybe your really micheal? Maybe were all bored to death and just love to gossip. It sure was a fun blog to read and comment on. The cougar story was good. I can see that happening. People love real life drama, this is as good of a story a it gets. That's why this blog was set up and we have news channels.

It might be fun for you, but it hurts real people. Keep that in mind.

WOW SO MUCH EMOTIONS PEOPLE FIGHTING OVER EACH OTHERS COMMENTS, DONT YOU TWO HAVE ENOUGH DRAMA IN YOUR OWN LIVES THE TO LIVE THEM HERE HEHEHE THE STORY YES FAR FETCHED.. ONLY GOD KNOWS THE TRUTH RIGHT NOW IT WILL COME OUT SOON ENOUGH, SO LETS ALL GET ALONG AND ENJOY OUR DAY
;-}

Shrek was out with Fiona (AKA his GF) and maybe donkey.

This LIAR is also a COWARD hiding again (no more under a log under leaves blanket mind you) at his home in Issaquah.

This LIAR COWARD has no balls to come out and thank the searchers and Sheriff. Just terse written statement.

Those defending this COWARD are bunch of idealistic naive people. I suppose they believe in fairies and add alien abduction too.

To Nietzsche,
Are you Michael's lover??

Nietzsche and Johnny Drama Queen,
We all know a SNAKE when we see one. That's how he got under that log so easy.

Good afternoon ganglia snail brains of Seattle and area... (those who are indeed ignorant yet excluding those of which whom aren't)

I am a Professor of Mental Sciences at Berkley. The local Sheriff's Department flew me (a specialist) out here to examine this case to which I will decide if Mr Schreck has been less than truthful. If so, will pay in full, a restitution of sort for the public commitment exerted over this last weekend.

If I come to the conclusion that he in fact has told the truth, I will urge that he express gratitude to the selfless searchers that took measurable risks in his thorough search.

When I was in the war, we had tactics that helped people remember things more clearly. I think that my favorite interrogation method aside from the usual bamboo lines forced under the finger nails, would be when the enemy soldier was placed on his/her back at a negative 30-45 degree angle, strapped to the table and water poured on his face continuously only to breath for a second until he/she divulged the requested information.

NOTE: To bickering civilians above, "Think of the right question to ask". Keep in mind to the heated individuals that THIS IS A BLOG. You becoming angry over what one person says is not worth the effort.

MM

If you are this so called Professor, then why did you start off by calling us ganglia snail brains of Seattle. Who the hell are you coming up from BIG SHIT BERKLEY calling us names. No way in hell are you a specialist. If so, I want to know why we are wasting our tax dollars on an investgation...we know the truth.

I think if he was a real professor he would know how to spell "Berkeley" correctly. Or at least humor us and google it before you pretend to know what your talking about.

ganglion |ˈga ng glēən| noun ( pl. -glia |-glēə|or -glions )

Anatomy a structure containing a number of nerve cell bodies, typically linked by synapses, and often forming a swelling on a nerve fiber. • a network of cells forming a nerve center in the nervous system of an invertebrate. • a well-defined mass of gray matter within the central nervous system.

Characteristics of Ganglia Brains:
You focus on one thing (sucking up all of it's energy, just like this dead end story) until you bump into a wall then focus on something else. My example feeds it's self. I had a typo error of the spelling of Berkeley and you are totally off subject. Common among common people.

Lie or no lie, he will find his way at his own pace. So let him be!

MM

Calling off the search after 2 days is pretty standard. There was no trace of the guy and no new information. On Mt. Hood they knew where the people were, they just couldn't get to them due to conditions. In the Kim case I believe the search had been called off and they were found by a helicopter hired by the family.

As to costs, they were all borne by the volunteers. If there had been no search at all, there would be no savings to the taxpayers. All searches of this sort in King county are done by volunteers, with the command structure provided by the Sheriff's office. However those deputies would be on the payroll whether or not there was a search. That is an additio9nal duty, not their only duty.

Talk about being totally off subject. If this website bothers your intelligence so much then why waste your time on it?? Why don't you go bump in to a wall and focus on something else? Since you are not common people, I would'nt expect you to understand this website. Do all of us tax payers in Washington a favor and GO BACK TO BERKELEY!!!!!!!!

I was visiting a friend in Seattle when this man went missing-have returned to PA,and was wondering what became of Schrek--an amazing Tale.

i just had a minor fall on mt. si. i hit my head, my knees, nose, hand. i am scratched up. it hurts to walk. if you lie in a coma for three days, your blood pools, you need medical attention. you have marks. someone looking at me right now would suggest medical attention. FOR A MINOR FALL.

This is the funniest dam* thread I have read in a long time.

I think I saw him buying crack cocaine in Auburn that evening, then he was at the Auburn Hotel with a guy named Reggie, who just got out for vucsa. Or mabe it was Reggie's friend I get mixed up. He had to come down from the high before going back home, do a urine test, I mean it. Wait, too late it is out of his urine now, too many days have gone buy, check Auburn Hotel records. He ate at Big Daddy's before he went home. Or at least he got a drink.

I knew Michael Schreck when he was in high school. It's hard to imagine that he would be cruel enough to put his family and friends through the torment they must have felt while he was gone. Maybe things were as he and his family have said. If not, then they will have to deal with what happened.

I just hope that all the generous people who gave of their time and emotions will be just as generous the next time someone seems to need help. Cheers to everyone involved in the search!

He's in the news again...he and his wife have written letters and given interviews. His wife says he has seen a neurologist and has been diagnosed with amnesia. Yet he "remembers" going jogging, falling into a ravine, rolling under a log, covering himself with leaves, and his entire journey home. Huh.

Amnesia: the most convenient alibi!

His story seems half-baked and I agree. I think this guy cheated on his wife. I also read this:

"King County Search and Rescue accepted the $1,000 donation, but is declining to lend a guide to find the site where Michael Schreck said he collapsed, saying the case is closed and there would be no point."

Sounds like it's either a red herring or he actually bribed them $1000 to not go back and look around.

Search and rescue will survive the financial loss. What is most sad is his family and their future with a man who has not come clean. I know all about the torment that causes, shame for all.

This guy Schreck is a nut-cake. Why can't we just let it go at that. He doesn't give a damn that he caused a lot of people to walk around in the rain all weekend while he was doing whatever the hell he was doing. As far as his spending the weekend with a woman, what kind of woman would spend the weekend with this goofy looking bastard?? He probably just spent the time masturbating.
