« So what happened to mild and rainy? My take on the Farmer's Almanac |Main| UW Students help small/minority owned businesses »
February is all wrapped up (in red) as we end the month that celebrates women's heart health. Today at the thousand person American Heart Association lunch, one doctor shared with the audience that 1 of 5 doctors don’t know a basic heart fact: that heart disease is the #1 killer of not just men... but women. This was an empowerment luncheon asking women to be their own best advocates for a healthy heart. Could it be possible that advocacy has to start with our doctors? If so, let it be and let's get the job done. Because until more people take care of their hearts by not smoking, limiting intake of salt and fat, limiting alcohol to one drink a day (or none), keeping blood pressure under 120-70, and keeping cholesterol in check, the fact is that 1 in 3 women will die of heart disease. That just can't be allowed! |
