The Democratic controlled House of Representatives just passed a non-binding resolution opposing President Bush's troop increase in Iraq. 17 Republicans joined 229 Democrats to vote in favor of the resolution. The debate prior to the vote was heated. Republicans charged Democrats with not backing the troops. Democrats charged Republicans with backing a flawed policy that's cost thousands of lives and billions of dollars. The division is wide, agreement between the two sides seems nowhere to be found. What about this? When Congress considers the president's request for 93 billion dollars extra in the military budget for the war, what if it imposed a federal income tax surcharge on everyone taxpayer in the country to pay for the war effort? It would be a matter of shared sacrifice by red states and blue states, by liberals and conservatives alike, though it could ever approach the level of sacrifice borne by our soldiers overseas and their families who hope and pray for their safe return home. 7 Comments |
How about this, how about our troops take off their uniforms and tell this country to go to hell? It seems obvious the people of America would rather live in stupidity and blindness watching American Idol and don't give a damn about our troops. I certainly have reconsidered my own 20 years in the Navy to have been a waste of my life. Collectively in this day, America is not worth defending.
I say to our troops, get out while you can at your earliest chance. Come home and be selfish for yourselves and your family and leave this country to its sad fate. Let the liberals and Democraps defend freedom, which they never will, and watch America go down the tubes.
All taxpayers already pay taxes for the defense of our country.
A better suggestion would be to take the billions of dollars the federal government spends on pork projects, eliminate the do-nothing agencies along with the fat bureaucrats that run them and work (spunge off)in them, cut the fraud and waste that no one can really estimate that exists in all government agencies, eliminate our support of the corrupt, anti-American, anti-freedom, anti-human United Nations, and direct the billions of these savings towards defense of our country.
How about instead of wasting even more tax money on this ''war on terror'' we spend some of our hard earned tax dollars on finding the true reason why our troops are still in that God-forsaken country? Could it be the oil? Could it be our president finishing up his daddy's war?
Who knows. All thats known for sure is the fact that America is now the laughing stock of the world. We cant take care of our own citizens, yet we insist on policing the rest of the world. Our government cant afford to build new schools or help our poor, but Iraqi's now have all the help they can stand.
I personally believe that my tax dollars have done MORE than enough to support this country, who doesn't even want our help. I never thought I'd see the day when I was unsupportive of this countrys military action. I come from a long line of soldiers, my grandfather was a career Marine, my father a Navy man, and 4 uncles in different branches. But I can no longer stand to watch the evening news and see how many more of our soldiers have died for nothing. Where are the terrorist threats? For that matter, where is Osama Bin Laden?! Our president surely cant tell you. More money thrown into his lap to let him play cat & mouse sure wont change those facts.
Hey, Bozo,,(anonymous) This country, the United States of America has accomplished more than any
nation in the history of the world. You ask,
"where are the terrorist threats?" look around!
you live in America!! Do I really have to explain
why you are safe here? Do I really have to explain
why people are dying to come here? Do I really
have to explain to you that you can sit at your
computer & say pretty much anything without the
worry of having your head sliced off!?
It's because you live in America. The Greatest
Nation in the history of the World.
Osama Bin Laden is in hiding with a bounty hanging
over him. Be grateful you live in America & are
free.
Alot of Men & Women lost their lives for this
Country, not to mention the torture most of which
went thru for YOU! And to read what YOU have to
complain about? You are either an Idiot or
related to al gore.
How about this, I paid my dues over there as a soldier with the 101st in March 2003, so can I be exempt since I did my time, causing my family such stress that my own father had a heart attack, I ended up single because my ex-hubby and I never saw eachother (even though in the same country) and every night I have flashbacks of horrible sceens of our helicopter crashing in Nov 03 (Yeah, that one) So, now I need to pay more? I think I'll take the Dan guy's approach....I got out while I could.
Has anyone ever wondered why the world hates us, when we are such a freedom-loving country that just "wants to get along"? Maybe it's because we've stirred up trouble in every part of the world we've been in. From the Bay of Pigs, to Iraq. Instead of blindly supporting a war and calling it patriotism, how about questioning why we went to war based on lies told to us by our president. Where are the WMD? Where is the link to Alquida? Yes, Sadamn wasn't a good person, and a bad leader, but so are many others. Why him, why now? We need to be like our ancestors that tossed the tea in the harbor. Look at things and take a stand against the malarky.
