« Port police stories strike nerve |Main| So what happened to mild and rainy? My take on the Farmer's Almanac »
How people choose to use their personal Tasers on the streets will be closely watched by law enforcement. These sleek, 50,000 volt stun guns will be readily available to the public beginning in April 2007. They are legal for civilian use in all but seven states (MA, RI, NY, NJ, WI, MI, HI) and the District of Columbia. (There are some restrictions in CT and IL). Many consumers will consider getting them because they offer some protection and aren't lethal. But police are concerned the Tasers could be used against the owners by the bad guys. And speaking of bad guys, some worry they might use Tasers on people they want to rob. While the Tasers aren't activated until you pass an online background check, there are fears people who have ill intentions will get around that. Best advice from Seattle Deputy Chief Clark Kimerer: Be aware of your surroundings and avoid potentially dangerous situations. Be careful out there! 5 Comments |
Deputy Chief Clark Kimerer's assertion that a Taser could be taken away from you and then used against you by an attacker is an unjustified statement. While a Taser could be taken away, so could any other item carried for personal protection and self-defense. One of the main advantages of the Taser is that it is a non-lethal device.
The police cannot be everywhere at once, and in fact have no duty under the law to protect the individual citizen (only the community in general).
Does Deputy Chief Clark Kimerer really believe that the average, honest, man or woman has no right to a means of self-defense, and is so incompetent that they will be unable to defend themselves against an attacker anyway?
Since Deputy Chief Clark Kimerer obviously does not trust or respect the people of Seattle, why should we trust or respect any member of the Seattle Police Department?
We've had a huge bust of black tar heroin in Tacoma and KING5 calls the suspects "Mexcian Nationals"
"Mexican" what? Hello KING 5, these two bastards are in this country illegally!! THEY ARE ILLEGAL ALIEN DRUG SMUGGLERS FROM MEXICO!!! Report the news right! Stop supporting the Political Correctness that protects these Mexican criminals!
If tasers are readily available to those fearful individuals who feel they need protection, then they are also readily available to those whom the fearful fear. It is much easier to mug someone with a taser than a gun or a knife. It's quieter, less risk of killing the victim, and no worry about the victim fighting back.
As tasers proliferate we should expect to see more crime not less. And people will be less safe.
Brilliant!
Oh great!!!!!!! Another product going into the hands of the bad guys all for the sake of some manufacturing company wanting to make a profit. It's all about money, folks. Your government is caring less and less about your safety every day.
Yay! Protection for women who don't want to get raped, mugged, or beaten, as it does happen daily and by the minute.
