Man, can these guys sell cars. From the moment we received a tip about an odometer rollback scam, we started making calls to the people believed to be behind it. Our goal was to go in undercover, listen to their sales pitch, read the odometer on the vehicle they were trying to sell and then use Department of Licensing title records to determine if the odometer was tampered with.
The vehicles were sold on Craigslist. They were mostly listed for sale in Puyallup, and we identified several phone numbers used by the shady car salesmen. So, fairly quickly we were able to identify suspect cars that the group was selling. The problem, though, was trying to beat other buyers' clamoring for low-mileage, low-cost "deals."
For a two week period every car that we called on was already sold or our calls weren't returned (interpretation: sold!). They were selling cars so fast that we were worried we'd never be able to catch up with them. That prospect was disappointing because catching this scheme on tape, bringing viewers along as we watch the crime and then confront the masterminds, was an important part of the story.
We'd almost lost all hope, when producer Kellie Cheadle called on a Honda Odyssey mini-van. A man named "Mike" said it was still available. However, after setting up a meeting he cancelled beforehand. Then he passed the deal off to a cohort named Stan. Stan said he was too busy to show the van immediately. Why were these guys yanking us around? Were they on to us? With persistence, Cheadle convinced Stan to meet us later in the evening. A short time later he threw another monkey wrench in the plan, calling back and requesting to show the van in a parking lot right away. He'd changed the time and location. Perhaps that's something that he does to keep buyers off balance.
After a madcapped scramble, Stan and his rolled-back minivan, two camera crews, and our story all came together in a supermarket parking lot that evening.
I can't believe we were taken for a ride when we bought a car from Stanley Stevens last summer! We were looking for a car for my daughter with low miles. We were told that the 93 Honda that he was selling had 97,000 miles on it. The odometer was still running so we didn't question it. We bought the car for $3600. We started having problems with the car soon after our purchase. Tires blew, CV valves needing replacing, brakes, then the transmission started going out, that's when we decided to trade it in. The odometer had stopped at 99000 miles at this point. The dealership that we traded it in to gave us $500 and said that they won't be able to re-sell it due to the odometer roll back! We were surprised but not shocked. Stanley was a smooth operator but red flags were sent up during the transaction such as; having his wife sign the title, saying that their was a "broken button" and that's why the air conditioner didn't work (come to find out there was no air conditioner) Listen to your gut people, if the deal is too good to be true, it probably is!
What if any recourse do the buyers have when they are "taken" in a scheme such as this? And, how soon until the Prosecutor's Office does anything? Usually, don't scammers such as these just close shop and set-up somewhere else under a new name running the same scam?
ya know it is sad and that this sort of thing goes on but it has and for years.
One needs to pay close attention to other signs of high mileage on the vehicle and if not mechanically inclined, take it to a reputable mechanic for an inspection PRIOR to money changing hands. If the seller is not willing to do that, walk away.
Some of the signs of high mileage that are obvious, pitting on the leading edge paint and grille, indicating the car has seen alot of highway use. A steam cleaned engine will often have an odor of the emulsion cleaner, beware of oil leaks. If you can look under the car at the front end CV joints nd see if the boots are torn, feel the brake pedal for a "spongy" feel (indicating air in teh system) listen to the brakes for squeaking and or squeal (indicating worn pads or rotors, shoes, drums) Check the transmission oil for a burnt smell and cleanliness. Should be red and not foamy. Look at the hose and belts do they look crcked and old or have they been shined up with belt dressing to make them look newer than they are. Look at the coolant is it clean? if Rusty look out. Look for the signs of obvious leaks where the car has been siting and then check and see what it is, fuel, oil, transmission fluid, or coolant. Often a car will tell it's history to you if you just look close enough...
What King 5 needs to do, is investigate why the DOL is still allowing the Steven& Ristik <( not sure spell right and don't care) families are able to still obtain a business licenses. This is a family of Gypsy who are notoriously know, through out the Tacoma police Dept. as Major con artists. Their know for having car lots where people consign their cars for them to sell. Well, they take the car and change the VIN # and report them as stolen, so the owner looses out. Their also well know for going into restaurant eat half of their meals and either complain about the food or just simply walk out. This family use to live in Tacoma, until they had their taken by the IRS for tax fraud. You wan to see a a TPD officer cringe mention their name to one
I cringe every time I hear Ristick/Stevens/Steve/Marks/Miller/Costello/John/ and the latest last name "Rich". It's not just the Prosecutor's office in Pierce County that's lazy and stupid but, so are the Prosecutors in King, Spokane, Clark, Multnomah and Maricopa County. Thank You King 5 for doing this. I have turned these guys in numerous times to DOL and still no response from them on my case. I turned them into Pierce County sheriff's as well NOTHING. Some of these guys are my direct next door neighbors and even the landlords didn't want to listen. It is sad when you can show that they are doing something wrong and noone wanted to listen. First of all, the senior deputy prosecotor for Pierce County who has this file is not in the least bit lazy. What was not mentioned in this report was the fact that there is still investigation pending and while arrests and charges have not yet been made, they will most likely happen once the case investigation is complete. I think it's unfair to "throw the prosecutor handling this file" under the bus so to speak. The unit this case is in is a high volume unit that deals with major identity theft and fraud cases and also deals with the arson cases in Pierce County. So you tell me, is the prosecutor in this case lazy? I don't think so. She's doing her job to the best of her ability and the elected prosecutor should be praising her for her long hours and efforts to get this cases charged. Shame on the King County detectives for pushing the blame onto Pierce County. If this case was so vital and so important and so urgent, why didn't they push the King County Prosecutor's Office to charge it instead of only giving a partial investigative report to the Pierce County Prosecutor's Office. Put the blame on the right parties here.
R. I understand what you are saying but now it is too late to prosecute. I know for a fact half of the offenders have left the state. I know because they were my neighbors and they left in the night when the investigation was aired. So how are we supposed to stop them if they have left the state. I know they did this in Idaho too, when the charges were pending they ran from there as well.
Yes! All of a sudden the four homes seem to be lifeless. I live in the neighborhood as well. Good riddance to them! In my opinion this kind of criminal element is not welcome in my neighborhood. However, it is interesting that all of the homes still seem to have their furnishings. Are they planning on coming back? I wouldn’t recommend it! I certainly will be keeping an eye out for them.
I do believe that the prosecuting office and the Sheriff have been too lax with these people. This kind of conduct from these people is not new. Their antics have been going on for years! Just check their names on the Pierce County LINX system. I do understand that sometimes it takes time to put a case together…but years! I don’t buy it.

Ditto. First of all, when I read the "R" comment it sounded more like someone wanting a promotion and trying to justify why they are lazy and stupid. Setting arrogance aside, maybe the prosecutors and Department of Revenue managers should read Kathleen Merryman or Stacey Mulick from the News Tribune instead of updating their resumes. The million dollar question is: Why does Department of Revenue have the Ristick's, out of Puyallup, classified a non-profit corporation? To many government agencies are turning a blind eye.
Now that some of the family have left Puyallup, maybe Portland/Spokane/Las Vegas or Phoenix can go after the Travelers, Tramps and Thieves.

Another interesting fact about this group. They apparently do not like to pay for their sewer service. Every house has a lien against it by Pierce County Sewer. I guess it is the only utility you can stop paying for and they won’t turn it off. With as much **** as they are shoveling they should have to pay double :)
I'm the victim of Sean Ristik whose address I happened to record when I wrote the receipt for the deposit. Last Jan 13th, I bought the minivan (in the Puyallup mall) stated for only 87K miles but later found out that the last recorded odometer on Carfax is 160K+ miles several years ago. I don't know if there is any way for me to get back some of my loss. Thanks King 5 for making this case public!

I'm familiar with these families as well. They used to bring ,and probably still do, their cars to the detail shop I used to work at to have those cars cleaned up. I always suspected there was something more to them and not suprised that they have been committing fraud. By the way, they still reside in Tacoma and Parkland! Let me see if I got this straight...according to King5 Investigators, Seattle Police informed Pierce County prosecutors over two years ago of a criminal enterprise operating in/around Puyallup. From Chris Ingalls investigation, we are told that a senior Seattle police detective believes up to 100 cars a month with cash profit of up to $2000 and possibly more per car were generated from this odometer roll back scam. So, if we just use a low/high approach then on the low side lets presume 50 cars a month times 24 months times $1000 cash profit then we get $1.2 million...cash. On the high side, lets presume 100 cars a month times 24 months times $2000 cash profit then we get $4.8 million...cash. Of course as with all statistical analysis nothing is exact and simple but the truth is stark and real--unreported cash probably into the millions was stolen from unsuspecting people throughout our communities. I wonder what the IRS and our own State Department of Revenue/taxation feel about this story?
Now, lets look at another angle that was briefly mentioned in the King5 Investigation. Apparently this crime syndicate operated out of several lavish homes in/around Puyallup. I am sure King5 and Seattle Police are aware of the locations of these homes. How were they purchased? Are they being rented? Regardless of purchase, lease or rent the question that I come up with is how does a criminal enterprise pay for the homes? Answer--cash. Then this odometer roll back scheme involves more than just ripping off people on auto purchases, it is a conspiracy of money laundering. I know it is a stretch without cold hard facts but evidentiary considerations are pointing to a conspiracy of a rogue family headed by a father teaching his sons on the value of crime, in this case odometer roll backs, and using illgotten gains to pay for "lavish homes" thereby setting the conditions for money laundering. How else would you claim the money if you don't have a job and not paying taxes? You need to hide it and "buying, leasing or renting" homes to further your crime syndication is a good way. The aire of legitimacy is sought and the crime family believes that by melting into the background of good neighborhoods that no one will notice the stink of crime nor the fact that a criminal enterprise has been operating without intervention by Pierce County. I know the story reveals a two year investigation brought to Pierce County's attention but I have to wonder "how many more people" were ripped off before the investigation....during the investigation...and even now as I type this entry. How much longer must we endure Pierce County's ineffectiveness to deal with crimes in our backyard without resorting to a Seattle PD detective working to point out that a criminal enterprise exists?

What this blog is about is venting and trying to do something about money laundering,theft and what victims can do. What is the real issue? Odometer rollbacks? Fraud? Tax evasion? Criminal conspiracy? Money laundering? All of these are elements of the real issue--failure of Pierce County prosecutors to go after criminals. Don't you think it a little odd that a Seattle police detective (just for clarity--KING COUNTY) handing over case materials to Pierce County prosecutors TWO YEARS AGO and not one observable action has taken place since then (excepting King5 investigation)? Did you hear the Pierce County prosecutor ADMIT that his office and the senior prosecutor handled the case poorly? He ADMITS that the senior prosecutor SHOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED THIS CASE TO LANGUISH? Well, unfortunately his failure to act and his admittance of languish does crime victims no good because they become victimized TWICE--once by the criminal and second by the legal system that allows this to go on and on and on.
Perhaps our only recourse is to spread the word and keep this story alive in order to find all the victims. Remember, during King5 investigation, Chris Ingalls documented over 700,000 miles rolled back. The good news is that King5 caught this criminal conspiracy in the act. The bad news is that their investigation documented three weeks of hard work on their part. Well, what of the two years that had gone unnoticed? How many MILLIONS OF MILES have been deleted from automobiles now on the road? How many car drivers are gambling with own lives as well as those being shared on the road thinking that a low mileage car is anything but? No, I don't think talk of gypsie or race does this issue any good; doesn't promote clarity only clouds the real challenge--OUR LOCAL PROSECUTOR NEEDS TO "GET OFF THE CHAIR" (as voiced by a victim identified in the King5 investigation) and take documented criminals and conspiracies to court and seek maximum legal recourse. This needs to be done not only to deter future criminals and conspiracies, not only to help victims realize their car may be unsafe/unworthy, not only to force realization to our local elected officials that there is a gap in our motor vehicle audit trail, not only to identify potential for other crimes to be concurrent with this scam (such as tax evasion, money laundering) but to reinforce our community standard that CRIME WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! Even if Pierce County prosecutors' office has tarnished our communities we can indeed FIGHT BACK and reclaim our homes and force elected officials to do their part in fighting crime. Pierce County prosecutors have known about the car scam by this criminal gang longer than 2 years. DOL has known about this criminal gang longer than 2 years. The BIG problem is the prosecutors in all of the counties are STUPID, LAZY and only want super easy cases. The Investigators and Detectives can hand over wonderful cases with pictures, charts and clearly written reports (written at a 3rd grade level) to prosecutors who either lose files, think they are not sexy enough, or they don't understand. So, as I told my husband, who asked me, "well, what does the prosecutor need to close the case?" My smart-ass answer was "grow a brain". If someone can contact Detective Dennis Marlock, perhaps he can help as well. What we need is a leader to organize, and not worry over getting the next promotion or being politically correct. I can only hope that King5 does a follow-up or maybe grab another case that is sitting on a prosecutors desk. Just to throw a few out, Sweatheart scams, Identity theft, Fund raising, Psychics, ATM Skimming, and Phishing. The best idea I have of all, is to give Investigators and Detectives BIG raises and lower the salaries of prosecutors. Have the investagators and detectives talk to judges at a monthly meeting regarding what still needs to be done with the cases.
I sold a truck to Stanley Stevens a couple of months ago with 121,000 miles on it for $8500. I saw the King 5 report and looked up the people who got the truck from Stanley and it had 50,000 miles, they paid $14,000. I feel bad for the victoms of this crime. What can I do to help nail Stanley's ass to the wall?

I share your frustration and perhaps privately indulge in your sentiment regarding local prosecutors. If DOL, DMV, DSHS and at the federal level (I hope the IRS is or will be investigating--if the IRS was good enough for Al Capone surely the IRS is good enough for our local mafioso wannabes) were aware of this criminal conspiracy for more than two years then clearly there is a breakdown in the efficiency and effectiveness of the Pierce County prosecutor's office. I've sent messages to my local elected officials and have requested their support for an inquiry into the state of affairs of our Pierce County prosecutor's office. Today I will send out similar messages to my county officials and to my national level government officials. I will continue this campaign until Pierce County prosecutor's office does more than offer a token apology and opine "perhaps we should not have allowed this case to languish". This is malfeasance not because of abuse of power but rather an affirmative omission to act and to ignore the plight of county constituents within scope of (office) power and authority.
I believe we owe a great debt and gratitude to Detective Stokke/Seattle Police Department for bringing the results of his investigative skills and time to the attention of Pierce County. Perhaps if our local county and city police officers were more like Detective Stokke then our share of criminal conspiracies would be dramatically reduced or even better would have all conspirators languishing in our jails. I encourage those who have been victimized by this criminal enterprise and those having been victimized by the Pierce County's prosecutor's inaction to contact Detective Stokke. Continuous, overwhelming and focused public outrage can establish the conditions, circumstances and create the influences necessary to force change in our Pierce County Prosecutor's office.

I live just a couple doors down from the house where Ristik was interviewed by the reporter… their driveway looked like a car dealership for 2+ years and that’s only one of the several homes these slimeballs occupied in our area. They had an average of 6 to 8 cars parked there at any given moment– continually different ones all the time, except the white Escalade. Actually, the comments by “jesus at February 5, 2007 04:31 AM” estimating the funds generated by these losers may be on the low side, since there are multiple families involved.
Actually my biggest fear is that the IRS, DMV, Pierce and King Counties will just allow this to blow over after everyone’s blood pressure settles down and let these jerks pop up elsewhere, just like moles in your yard. Let me guess the excuses; not enough resources, can’t get the needed evidence, they moved to another state, well… they’re not violent crimes so we’ll get to them later, etc. The sheer magnitude of these crimes and the expense and misery inflicted upon the victims is enough to justify a riot in front of the Pierce County prosecutor’s office. If there is justice in this country, these jerks will all rot in jail… forgive me for my cynicism, but I’m not going to hold my breath!

I don't think your comments are cynical; perhaps more realistic than we really should believe...but....there is a way to make room for optimism. Don't waste energy holding your breath; send emails, write letters to your local elected officials. I have done so to our local, county officials and will start with state and higher today and tomorrow (question--how do you eat an elephant? Answer--one bite at a time). I've asked the Pierce County prosecutor to determine why this case languished and sent a request to our State attorney general requesting an investigation on Pierce County's ineffectual law and order. If we join together and use our collective energy to keep this incident visible to our elected officials then we can make a difference and transform cynics to believers.

Rather our community concern is the breakdown or lack of efficiency and effectiveness of our Pierce County prosecutors office to go after criminals. It is one thing to build cases, but when law enforcement provides case materials spanning a long time and yet prosecutors fail to carry out their legal duties then I begin to wonder exactly why community residents pay taxes or elect local officials. I know, we should devote more money to pay for schooling so that unfortunates like yourself can obtain the advantage of a good education. We are blessed with the Puyallup school district. I am guessing you are not a product of the district. You have my sympathy--there I go again; another multi-syllable word--SORRY.
I know this situation compounded by countless others, documented or not, have victimized hundreds if not thousands in our communities. But hopelessness is not a reason to blindly declare "check skin color".

Come on folks, race and nationality is not the issue. Let me construct a simple illustration of what is the problem.
Bad guys commit crime...police investigate...prosecutors put bad guys in jail.
SIMPLE. But you can see our problem. Yes, we have bad guys committing crime. And, yes, we have police investigating the crime and collecting investigation files and evidence. Police investigators provide these files YEARS AGO to the Pierce County prosecutor's office. Now, to complete our illustration and make our community safer, the prosecutor's role is to take law enforcement data and present it in a court of law and obtain convictions. Unfortunately for all of us in Pierce County, we are apparently beset with a neutered prosecutor. Perhaps our sheriffs office and local police office are ineffective as well(since it took a Seattle Detective working in King County to provide the necessary investigative skills and documents to show that a criminal enterprise is operating out of several lavish homes in Puyallup). Further, King5 sniffs out the truth and televises an Investigator's program that clearly shows incompetence on our prosecutor's part. I didn't make this up. The prosecutor stated quite clearly that his office should not have let it languish. Sounds like a confession? No, rather an admission that unless WE, THE COMMUNITIES AFFECTED, decide to voice our concern on the effectiveness and efficiency of the Piere County Prosecutor's office (well, okay, in this case it is the lack thereof such qualities) we ain't getting squat. Pierce County will happily let this matter drop to the bottom of the toilet because the prosecutor probably believes that if we, the communities affected, do nothing then why should he?
Folks, the math in this ain't hard. If you want something done then a little sweat equity is needed; don't wait for your neighbor or someone else to do the work. If you feel victimized by this crime (or others) and there has been no action done by our judicial system then take a minute or two out of your day and send an email, write a letter or make a telephone call to your local elected officials, police office, sheriffs office, prosecutor's office and on and on. I pledge each and every day to send one or two messages to a politician, public servant or law enforcement office outlining my concern on this matter. I don't need to spend countless hours; just a minute or two each and every day. Perhaps we could join in and send a message to King5 Investigators and say "thank you" for their work and ask "when is the followup?" And....if you know of other victims or concerned neighbors, don't wait to have them ask you "what do I do" rather stop, say hello, and ask "will you join us in our campaign?"

To King 5 or to whom it may concern, i noticed on this blog there's a lot of racism going about the Gypsies. Some Gypsies even getting threatened just because of there race. is this right? We don't need this blog to threatened and provoke hatred toward the Gypsies. I have never seen so much hatred towards a specific race just because a few might have sold some cars. Huling Bros. in Seattle stole 70,000 dollars from an elderly man yet i see no other people calling for the heads. Can't you see what is happening to us--all of us? Fear has taken a grip and it won't easily be loosened. We have to focus on the one thing that makes our community a community--people. A community is people, places and things. I believe we can learn much about our community through reading/on-line research of places and perhaps things; but the one thing that we can not learn without participating in a process is people. And, what is the process? It is simply communicating with each other in a civil discourse to better understand people--and in doing so to better understand our community and ourselves.
I don't want to sound like Sunday-sermon; the focus is on crime and criminals. I don't care if you are from the otherside of the moon--if you commit crime, the police should investigate and the prosecutor should take you to court. The formula is quite simple--but the math is not apparent to our local elected and appointed officials. Why not? I don't understand why the Pierce County Prosecutor has failed to act. I cringe when I replay the King5 investigation clip on-line. I am stunned that the Pierce County prosecutor admits this case probably should not have languished but I am outraged that his admission does not include a statement of action. What I said I am going to watch and document is a family by the name of Ristick. They own four homes in my neighborhood. This was not a random choice or based on race as you constantly imply. This family has shown through their actions that they have a disregard for the law. This is documented in the King5 investigation and the Pierce County Linx system. You are on-target and my apologies for taking out of context your statement. Your efforts to document the ongoings of a criminal enterprise regardless of name, origin, heritage or cultural affinity are admirable. I have forwarded my personal observations to Seattle PD and to Pierce County prosecutor's office in hopes of substantiating the law enforcement files developed by Det Stokke in his efforts to help us in Puyallup. As I have often stated in earlier blogs and in conversations with neighbors, I am and still remain aghast that the Pierce County prosecutor has not gotten out of his chair to take this criminal conspiracy to court and to jail. However, some words of caution. We should not accept vigilantism as a neighborhood policy. I know it is difficult to distinguish between what is "neighborhood watch" and what is "vigilantism". I fully endorse the concept of "neighbors watching out for neighbors". I don't think we need to extend our fears into "neighbors watching neighbors". I know that I risk confusing some blog readers on this issue but I think it is important that all of us in our community should reach out and support each other as neighbors and not let fear grip us so tight that we nervously point fingers or whisper behind closed doors on the actions of others residing in/around our neighborhood. As you so stated, I don't care if "people are white, black, green, blue, or turquoise". If "someone" in our neighborhood commits crime then that "someone" jeopardizes the community because the "victim" may well be you, me or someone in our neighborhood. That is an intolerable situation. What should we do? For starters, we should get to know each neighbor. I don't mean that all of us jump out of our homes and dance in the street singing kumbaya. Just ask yourself--have you met the neighbors immediately around your home (side, back, front)? Do you know their names? Children or pets' names? When was the last time you said "hello" or whittled some time away talking about the Mariners or Seahawks with them? If we all embraced this process we would actually have a better neighborhood and community. Then, when something is amiss we, COLLECTIVELY, turn to our elected and appointed government officials and ask for intervention. When government fails, and in this case Pierce County prosecutor's office failed miserably, then we, as NEIGHBORS, join in common cause and make our opinions known to a whole spectrum of people, offices and organizations. For example, I spend a few moments each day to send one or two messages to local, county, state elected and appointed officials, offices and organizations on this ongoing criminal enterprise operating out of Puyallup. I simply refer them to the King5 Investigation and ask just two questions: why is the Pierce County prosecutor's office incompetent in taking action on this case? (I can just imagine how many other criminal cases are falling by the wayside--how unfortunate for the victims) and then I ask "will you help us?"
Please join me and let's, as neighbors, embrace "neighbors watching out for neighbors" and keep this campaign in the forefront so that as neighbors we can ensure our community is safe and secure. First, a belated "thank you" for your investigative reporting on this odometer roll back scam. Your efforts documenting the toils of Det Stokke from the Seattle Police Department and your television broadcast publicly identifying the ongoing criminal enterprise in Puyallup has been a clear example of community service. I, and my neighbors, applaud you.
Second, I have often made an argument that the central point to the injustice of this situation is not necessarily about the criminal conspirators but rather the lack of effectual and efficient prosecutor's service by Pierce County. If police did their job, and in this case, clearly the Seattle PD did, and construct sufficient evidence to bring to the court system then I am at loss on the lack of motivation by the Pierce County prosecutor's office to support the "law and order" so necessary to keep our community safe and secure. Seriously, if Seattle PD notified the Pierce County prosecutor's office TWO YEARS ago on the elements of this odometer roll back scam, how many more people have been victimized because of inaction by the prosecutor's office? We have no direct impact to Pierce County except through common cause. I believe that my neighbors along with others in our community have been compelled to contact our elected and appointed local government officials demanding to know "why" our county prosecutor has not "lifted off his chair" to bring this criminal enterprise to justice. What threshold merits the prosecutor's attention? Is it the number of victims? Is it the "cost" to our community or to the county? I believe your investigative story answers those questions--too many victims; too high a price. Perhaps Pierce County feels that odometer roll backs do not merit timely prosecution because the [victims] sought to buy low mileage cars, each delighting in the idea of finding too good to be true automobiles? Is it the county's perspective that we, neighbors and community members victimized by this criminal enterprise, were ignorant of the old sage "buyers beware?" If any of my musings hold true then we have moved further away from being a community, secure in our neighborhoods, to being a patchwork of people existing at the whim of a county government holding disdain for any inconvenience brought on by those who sustain (through taxes) and nourish (by our votes) their presence (elected and appointed offices).
Third, as this story continues to unfold, will you continue to investigate and provide informational updates to your viewers? Will you press the Pierce County prosecutor's office for answers to our questions? Will you, through your investigation, continue to be our link so that this does not drift in obscurity? Will you continue to help us, so that we in our community become better neighbors?

That was when i worked for Sprint, now i work for Clearwire here in the Tacoma Mall and i see them all the time on saturday and friday evenings walking in groups... Have you seen them lately? Also, how is your lawsuit going? I am interested to know if anyone has successfully pressed charges or won a law suit against them. I work security inside the Tacoma mall and I see the Ristick and Stevens walking around the mall all the time. These people are scumbags and im sick of them. I would love to give one of them a piece of my mind, but none of them has the berrys to confront me about it. I live close to the Sunrise development and every now and then take a ride in my old Chevy to see how things are growing in my old neighborhood. Boy, what a difference three decades make! But, I noticed something interesting. It was when I got home that I realized "something big". I had to drive out and see one more time just to make sure--yup, I saw correctly. The palm plant in front of Ricky Ristick's house is GONE! Oh, my gawd! This is big news! Why? Hey, for the information adventurous do some research on Google but for those not inclined or just interested in the quick facts of gypsie life--the palm is the royal symbol of the gypsie clan. The palm is planted because it blends in as background to an ornamental garden. But, in Puyallup a palm plant in your front yard does stick out. It is a sign. According to several websites and freelance gypsie investigators, it is a sign for other gypsies to pay money to the head clan leader living in the house. In this case, it was probably Robert but I'm sure Ricky could have handled the cash gifts as well. Now that Robert and Ricky are having too much "public" attention paid to them, they had to get rid of the palm--they lost "face". Other gypsie members now must pay homage to another clan leader. If you have gypsies in your neighborhood, is there a palm tree planted? If so, then it could be a "sign" that a senior gypsie, or clan leader, lives there and is expecting monetary gifts from gypsies that must serve them! If you don't believe me, just wait--Robert and Ricky will start another scam and will expand their scam with other gypsies. For those still reading this blog, I found an interesting op-ed in the Seattle Times a few weeks back that might hold value for the experience we, as a community, share because of those seeking to defraud:

No truck with lies
Every marketplace, including the newspaper classified-ads section, needs an occasional visit by the cops. One such visit, in 2003, resulted in a case before the Washington Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of honest dealing.
The case, State v. George, involved a father and son selling a truck. In 2003, they bought an ad that stated: "1974 Cheyenne Super 1/2T, 1 owner, 350 V8, AT tow pkg. All stock and original gar'd. 70 K mi. Very nice. $5,500." In fact, the truck had a replacement engine and several owners. Its 5-digit odometer had turned over at least once, which the sellers knew.
Seattle Police Detective Daniel Stokke spotted this ad in The Seattle Times and didn't believe it. He sent two undercover officers to listen to the sellers tell more lies, such as that the truck had always been garaged, when actually it had spent the two previous years in the open.
The sellers were arrested and convicted of theft by deception, which forbids the use of deception "to obtain control over the property or services of another."
The sellers argued that it wasn't theft if the truck was worth $5,500, and that the state hadn't shown it wasn't. The state argued that the theft was of the $5,500, and that under the law, the value of the truck didn't matter.
The court agreed with the state in a unanimous ruling. Those who lie about their merchandise may be convicted of theft by deception. That's the rule in every market in Washington, including the classifieds.

Oh, and if you are interested, yup, just last week a jury found a former Huling Bros car salesman GUILTY on first degree theft. Holy, moly, it took the jurors three hours to reach the conclusion the salesman was a THIEF. According to the newspaper, the thief will receive his jail sentence Jan 4. Hey, gypsies, wanna take a bet on length of jailtime? What are the odds gonna be that your jail time will be longer or shorter than his? Well, I'm taking odds its gonna be LONGER, hehehehehe! What goes around, comes around!
And, for david s., okay, so let's not criticize and use the term gypsy (unless of course the person wants the identity). Let's use the term that I think we all can agree on--CRIMINALS! Or, how about CROOKS? Or, better yet, how about THIEVES? Thanks for the story; sorry to hear you got scammed! It seems that the wheels of justice move faster down in Oregon because we have been dealing with this blight for almost a year. I went to the link you provided and read the story.
You know what I think?
I think the Oregon case is a test case. I mean, why would there be such a rush for one car? The story did say that the crook is suspected in several other rollbacks using Craigslist. Now, where have I heard that before?
Aw, heck, all you gotta do is read this entire blog from start to finish and you get the idea. The crooks, aka gypsies, used Craigslist to try and dump some rollbacks, but actually got caught in a sting by King5/Chris Ingalls (thank you Chris). But, this happened back in Feb and pretty soon we will have passed a year since King5 broke the story about the crooks living in pretty good homes in Puyallup neighborhoods. Of course, they are living high off the hog from people like you, Scott, who trusted folks to be honest when selling cars. Its sad to hear about ripoffs that you experienced by these crooks but the story from Oregon has me thinking that something GOOD is about to happen.
Could it be that it was just a test case down south? Maybe, when the Oregon court dealings all happen and cops/prosecuters learn how to take these kind of criminals to court and send them to jail then maybe, just maybe, the same thing will happen here! Hey, Pierce County--are you listening?

A friend of mine told me that this blog has reinvigorated itself due in part to some posters trying to inflame the situation by throwing the "race" card along with some other posters identifying recent ripoffs from gypsies selling rollback cars.
There is something wrong; terribly wrong. Why is it that we, in Pierce County, can't get the same type of dedication to service displayed by Seattle Police (Det Stokke) and by Oregon State Patrol? For Oregon, it took only ONE car. How many cars are listed just on this blog alone? How many cars were investigated for King5 story? What is it about Pierce County that doesn't seem to care about its community when crime is rampant and in-your-face?
I've tried to keep a civil tone throughout this blog but the Oregon story infuriates me to no end! I extend my heartiest congratulations to Oregon State Patrol--one helluva job! Too bad "dedicated service" isn't contagious! How sad for all of us and for our community values that seem to be flushed down a sewer.

Yeah here is something new. A fellow named "Miller" called us claiming he was an auto broker. He said he had a buyer. With all the right paperwork we let him have out SUV for a few days so he could clean it up and show it to this buyer. 14 days later we finally got tired of being yanked around. We got our SUV back with 2000 miles on it and dirty as hell. What a bunch of dopes we felt like. Turns out the guy has a sheet a mile long. We are new to the area and just did not know about this family. PS we dropped it off at a million dollar house.
I tried to buy a car from the Risticks. They took the money, but didn't give me the car. I didn't do any research on them. And I was stupid not to make the exchange in person. Police say it's a civil matter and that I must take them to court. Does anyone have addresses or phone numbers? Any other ideas?
