By far, the most popular story on KING5.com today and over the weekend is the story about Sea-Tac airport removing all of its Christmas trees after a rabbi -- who had requested to add a menorah -- threatened to sue. So what do you think? Should the airport reconsider its decision? Cast your vote here. (We've closed the comments due to a large number of posts that have violated our comment rules.) 263 Comments |
I guess you can't please everyone. So why try and please anyone. The rights of the few outwiegh the rights of the many.
He's surprised at Sea-Tac's decision? Really? Sounds like he wanted the issue and money rather than real resolution. Good job, man.
damage is done - leave them down - try again in 2007.
Could put up a picture of the rabbi...
Well, it is about time! All this religion stuff needs to just go away. The United States doesn't need all that stuff anymore!
Don't cave in. Let him sue. Christmas is a national holiday by act of congress. Therefore from a purely secular viewpoint any culturally appropriate decorations are no different than bunting on the Fourth of July.
And now it is not a big deal!
With lawyers and accountants taking common sense out of business, what can anyone expect.
And he lawyered up prior to the request.
TYPICAL SEATTLE NORTHWEST Attitude!
Politcal Correctness has gone over the top. He gave the airport 2 days to comply or her was going to sue. What did he expect?
Please put the trees up immediately!! What fools you were to jump at the wims of one person.
And, if he wants to provide a Monorah, let him do that.
Great, a group that makes up about 5% of the American population (if that), does it again.
Disgusting.
PUT THE "CHRIST"-MAS TREES BACK UP!!! NOW.
Symbols don't make a holiday. They add to a holiday, but they don't define it. Leave the trees down for this year. Maybe always. Is anybody really looking at them at the airport? When I travel, I'm far too busy to tell what is on display at the airport!
He is gone too far. If he is so religious why don't he go to his "promise land" and selebrate his holidays there. And let him sue, I guess he has too much money for attorneys.
I think we should consult Mel Gibson....
What did the Rabbi expect? He's being disengenious by his phony act of surprise, especially so after lawyering up. I believe that we are still at least an 80% Christian nation and probably 95% redneck in matters like this. The Rabbi didn't serve his cause very well.
This is one thing that's makes me ashamed to be from the Northwest.
Well, IMHO the constitution settles these issues re:
The Ratification of the Conventions of nine States, shall be sufficient for the Establishment of this Constitution between the States so ratifying the Same. Done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September
in the Year of our Lord
one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the Independence of the United States of America the Twelfth. In Witness whereof We have hereunto subscribed our Names.
I guess they need to change this to say in the Year of our Lord, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Satan etc….
This is the type of thing that's destroying America. Bowing to the whims of the vocal minority and suing everybody that doesn't. I am so sick of everybody in this country suing when they don't get their way. Like it or not, this country was founded and settled by Christians; and they still make up the vast majority of the population. We can't possibly put up equal representation for every single religion and culture that populates this country. Give up! When you make up the majority, we'll reconsider. Until then, you and your attorneys should sit down and shut up and quit wasting the courts time and the tax payers money with frivolous lawsuits. Rabbi, nothing against your choice of faith but you're an A-hole and people just like you ruin the festive holiday for 'the majority' of us.
In my 55 years of living, I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A CONTROVERY OVER CHRISTMAS!! It is a very sad day for America, that this is allowed to continue. I am starting to get the feeling I am living in a totalitarian state!!
WAKE UP AMERICANS, BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!
Only in Seattle...this is ridiculous!
People come here so they can have freedom. They decide they don't like our holidays or how we practice them so they object, and we change them to make them happy, and we loose our freedom. I don't like this. Let us keep our beliefs, and they can have theirs. If we go to their countries, they won't change their beliefs to make us happy
Okay, so the Right-wing Christian's don't throw a stink with the Halloween decorations go up and the Athiests don't threaten to sue when the Easter Decorations go up and the Jahovah Witnesses (for the most part) go silently about their way past all the decorations... We, the USA is a diversified melting post of culture and humanity with many celebrations and decorations for each of those celebrations. Plain and simple... If the port chooses to celebrate Christmas by putting up Christmas trees, who are any of us to tell them to take them down?
I think the port made the right decision - and they should NOT put the trees back up. They truly displayed the "wisdom of Solomon".
It's CHRISTMAS! Put the trees back up!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Would it have been so hard to put up the Menorah?
Definitely put the trees back up ASAP.
It's really sad that in our nation, people become more upset about holiday symbols than about the real problems going on. Why is the Rabbi seeking to sue the airport? Aren't there people in his area that he could be helping out?
Christmas is a national holiday, whether it is viewed through a secular or religious standpoint. Congress determined that a while ago.
The airport had a right to display the trees. There are NO religious connotations to the Christmas Tree. The Christian tree is a cross, not an evergreen with lights on it. I say put them back up, and let the rabbi sue. Any good lawyer could defend the airport.
It is so unfortunate that a single person can change the policy of the airport. Put them up, leave them up and say no to the whoever he thinks he is. He isn't a Rabbi in my opinion.
It surprises me that an ostensibly savvy management in this generally progressive, enlightened region of the country has made such a short-sighted calculation. Having lived in the South and East most of my life, I almost expect such small-mindedness. But not here. Make it right -- put a beautiful Menorah up with the trees, now!
I say put the trees back up. After all, we are in America and Christmas/holiday trees are traditional. Go for it!
Definitely, replace the Christmas trees. It was originally reported 15 trees, now your site says 9...what happened to the other 6? Please replace them all. Thank you.
Christmas Trees should be displayed and while they are at it why not display Menorahs. They are all beautiful to look at while waiting around for flights. They don't represent Christianity they represent a holiday. Christ represents Christianity.
My wife and I are both Jewish and find the rabbi's action to be absolutely disgusting. Unlike trying to find muslims that would support the airline over the imam issue, I know lots of Jewish people that would back the airport for keeping the trees. Christmas trees are a big part and a good part of America and they belong. People should be able to celebrate whatever holiday they want, but the fact that it is starting to become politically incorrect to say "Merry Christmas", is more than stupid.
The trees should be re-instated.
Christmas is the celebration of Jesus Christ -- not politics. Our country was founded on freedom of religion/worship and nary the twine should influence our freedom. We should respect each other .. and honor Christ.
Those Christmas trees should never have been tken down.Yes please put the trees back up and fast.Merry Christmas to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why not put up a Menoria on A Jewish Holiday and not mess with Christs day!!!
Personally, the Christmas tree doesn't symbolize my religious beliefs. It symbolizes to me the season of giving, loving, caring, and being with the loved ones of my family. And if I cannot be with my loved ones, I share my love through the sending of a gift.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone.
The trees do not represent Christmas. They are a decoration. Let the Rabbi pay for the decorations he wants and then we (Christians) get to put up a manger scene. Now that is what Christmas is really about, not the trees. Put the trees up again, heck let him help decorate them. If he wants his (Menorah), we get ours (Manger)!! Let him sue, we should stand in protest too!
Put the trees back up! You are never going to make everyone happy. Haven't the few compromised tradition and old fashioned values enough over the many. Funny it's never been a problem before now.
To start Sea Tac should never have removed the trees. Merry Christmas
Christmas trees are for everyone. They add enjoyment to interior scenery. If a menorah is added, then so should a Christian nativity scene be added! Besides, Jesus was Jewish.
We respect the jews tradition of displaying their Mennorahs. I think Rabbi Elazaar should respect the Christians tradition of using tree's displayed at Christmas time.
Not to worry, the Non Jesus Believing Jew will get his when he faces god. God does not take a fancy to those who conspire with other heathens to kill his only begotten son.
Makes you want to root for the Palestinians.
Put them back up along with the menorah. Christians certainly are not offended by the Jewish symbal so why should those who want to celebrate the "holiday" season instead of Christmas???? They are part of the holidays this time of year and have been for thousands of years. That doesn't mean everyone who wants to invent a holiday should get equal billing. After all, these were celebrated when we became a country and if people don't like this country and the principles it was founded on, Please do feel free to leave!
The last few years I have watched it go from "merry christmas" to "happy holidays" in order to be more politically correct. It funny how the "winter break" always seems to fall on christmas. What is wrong with America today? why do we cater to those that make up the religious minority? Does this country not stand by its founding fathers? Do we even remember what their stance was? Everyone gets so caught up in their owns B.S. that they forget the values that this country was founded on! Christianity (well moreso Protestant but still..)! not muslim, not, judism, not budhism, CHRISTIANITY! it is time to reclaim our country and stop catering to those who do not appreciate our culture, our religion.
the U.S.A. flag Will be change next if we let them keep bulling us.
I, like most Americans, are sick of being told what we can say and what we can do in our own country, by people who have no right.
I think the NATIVITY Scene should be placed at every Jewish site of worship during their holidays!
I cannot believe that the Rabbi and other Jews from Seattle are attacking us Christians like this !! Our men and women are fighting and dying in the Middle East directly or indirectly because of our support for Israel and then he turns on us like this. How grateful !
They should Put The Christmas Tree's Back Up!! After All We Should All Be Happy Around This Time Of The Year And Be Able To Get Along With Each Other. This Has Made Me And So Many Other Pepole So Sad And Hurt By All Of This. so Please For The Love Of our Lord Put The Christmas Tree's Back Up!!!! Thank You
I believe the airport officials acted to hastly. They should have taken the time to determine how other airports handled this situation across the US. I BELIEVE the trees should be put back up after all Christmas Trees are only one of many Christmas traditions.
No, I don't think the Port should put the trees back up. The rabbi just saw a way to make some money and I think the Port did the right thing. If they put the trees back up they will just have to spend more money on other decorations and things at the airport are way to expensive as it is, if they have to spend more money on decorations it will just cost us all more money. Because you know danm well the Port will not pay for it. Just put up some banners or signs that say HAPPY HOLIDAYS and leave it at that. And if they don't have signs or banners right now, don't put anything up. Once again the Port will just make us pay for it.
All Christians should immediately take to the streets - strap themselves with fake bomb belts - shout "There is no God but God", "Kill the infedels", "Off with the head of those who defame Jesus" - slap themselves silly across their backs with bloody chains - - - oops, sorry, wrong religion - forgive me, I got a bit confused: we Christians defend Jews, not kill them. Sorry, my mistake. Merry Christmas.
THE TREES BACK. Christmas trees are for everyone, both religious and non-religous. Many Jewish people have trees with blue & white/silver lights & ornaments, not to mention lights on there houses. Neither a Monoroh or Nativity, or other religious symbol belong in public locations, but in their places of worship or homes.
The Christmas Trees were renamed Holiday Trees last year. That seemed to make all religious affiliations happy. I am upset that just the sight of the trees would cause others to be upset. BRING THEM BACK!
By threatening to sue instead of politely requesting that a Menora be added to the holiday decorations, the Rabbi showed a true lack of tolerance. Sea Tac Airport also showed it's true colors by reacting with panic instead of aiming at a compromise. If we are in a society where the majority rules why are we even doing this? At this rate - the Presidential candidate will be decided by who received the least amount of votes....but wait we need some one to represent each view....and so it goes on....I advise to the Rabbi and to all those who take offense to the holidays - GET OVER IT!!!
Can someone get this Rabbi to do something about Prince as the halftime entertainment for the Superbowl?
bogomilsky appalled?? by the port taking down the Christmas trees - I'm appalled that he threatened the port of Seattle with a law suit. What did they think they would do -- pay him off with $$$ and do nothing???
Why did he not threaten to sue Seattle and every large city to the smallest of towns in the USA and other countries that decorate a tree during the Christmas season --OOPS holiday season. How about the white house -they have a big Christmas Tree lighting celebration - can even watch it on TV for the whole world to see.
A CHRISTMAS TREE IS NOT USED IN CHRISTIAN WORSHIP - A MENORAH IS USED IN JEWISH WORSHIP!!!!
this story makes me sick! once again a "few" ruin it for everyone! Since when does a xmas tree denote any religion, its simply a festive decoration!
I'd love to see nativitys in this christian founded country along with the trees.
Linda in Anacortes
I have been raised a Christian and I have never believed that a Christmas tree was a religious symbol. A Christmas tree has become the materialistic symbol of Christmas. The give me give me give me presents version of Christmas. Christ is the center of Christmas. Trees are the fun, the magic of the Christmas season. The lights brighten our darkened days of winter and give us a beautiful decoration to look at. I find it sad that a Rabbi would want to put his very religious symbol the Menorrah in a class with a Christmas tree. If the Rabbi asked the airport to take down a Nativity scene then maybe we would be talking equal objects of religious symbolism but a Christmas tree, come on, wake up world, we have enough awful things to make us feel sad going on in this world, lets keep a few things that may brighten someones day and give them a reason to smile and say "Oh my isn't that a beautiful tree".
Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah.
The decision to remove the trees was an ill-advised, cowardly decision. Put the trees up ASAP. Also, the Menorrah is fineb the rabbi acted in a despicable manner.
Yes, the trees and decor should return to the Airport and surrounding area. For years the decorations have been there, why now change a annual tradition? Why demand this change now? After all, as a previous post said, symbols don't make a holiday. But what concerned me more is why a Rabbi would threaten to sue if his 'request' (demand) was not filled.
I support the employees that work the various airlines to add their own decorations for the holiday season, good for you all!!
Cheers!!
Christmas trees are appropriate decorations and they should not offend anyone. Its also understandable that Jewish community leaders want to see their own cultural symbols displayed. This is not a complicated problem. There are many win-win solutions. Both the Rabbi and the airport management are responsible for failing to find to a positive solution. They need to put their egos aside and negotiate in good faith. Do it for the sake of the traveling public who love Christmas and Hanukkah.
The Port needs to study history. The decorated tree is NOT a religious symbol. It was originally used to feed the birds during snowy winter weather and has just gotten fancier over the years. The menorah, the crucifix, etc. are all religious symbols and can't be displayed on government property. Time to quit being PC. Time to grow up. Put back the trees. AND NO MENORAH!
To those who posted assertions about this being a Christian nation, please stop embarrassing yourselves before educated people. Among the Founding Fathers, one and at best two of them were believers in a literal rendering of the Bible. Most were deists, which for you fundies, that means they believed in a higher power, but not in "salvation for a few." So, stop the lies: This country was founded by people who today would be Unitarians, not Southern Baptists!
As a 20 year Seattle resident who recently relocated to the Windy City, I can tell you that the City of Chicago airport drive and concourse is festively decorated with wreaths, snowflakes, and yes, Christmas trees. It makes a lovely welcome to our city image for the millions of travellers on their way to or from O'Hare. Why oh why does Seattle have to wring its hands and take down trees when the Christmas tree is not a religious symbol? Only in Seattle, definately not in Chicago.
Wow. What what a place we live in. The airport put those decorations up to make the place nice, not insult. So, the airport's reaction to retreat is understandable. I mean, you can't win. Why do anything for people when the results of your efforts are increasingly a law suit? Let's make all the buildings grey, all the food ambigiously bland, all our clothes a common color and cut! Then everyone can be bored instead of offended!
This is another attempt by a minority group to reduce Christianity and all things that represent it. Lets face it, this country was founded by Christians and Christmas is a national holiday; what kind of selfish person tries to discredit the foundation of the country in which they are living. Freedom of religion...does that ring a bell? If the airports choose to put up a Christmas tree, I guess that's their RIGHT! I am appalled by this "religious leader's" actions - threatening to sue because he did not get his way - he's not acting like much of a role model. In short, BRING BACK THE CHRISTMAS TREES, and all that they represent!!
Where is it written that a green tree with lights on it is a religious symbol? In the US Constitution? In the Bible?
If people associate a decorated tree with Christmas because of their traditions, then so be it. That is a personal thing, not a public display of religious sentiment. Anyone should be allowed to decorate a tree at any time of year without being pressured to erect a minora (which most definitely IS a religious item) next to it.
I think the Rabbi is a good person and meant well, but he is WRONG.
Poor maintenance guys...
Put 'em up, take 'em down....put 'm up...awwww hell!
Happy Ramahanukwanzmas!
I am shocked at the hateful remarks from Paul and Gloria. I am suprised that no one has said anything about it. I shocked that this site would heven post such hateful spew. Doesn't anybody screen these posts. Paul and Gloria need to leave this country. There is now room for the likes of you two in this country. Please don't talk to me about freedom of speech. You are abusing your rights.
The trees at Sea-Tac were a gorgeous reminder of love and peace the best in all of us pray for! By all means put up the trees, even though the labor to do this is added to the labor of the initial effort and the take down effort! God bless us everyone!
Political correctness has gone too far. The rights of the few DO NOT outweigh the rights of the many. Nowhere in the US Constitution OR the Bill of Rights is there an ammendment stating that any citizen of this great country has a right to not have their feelings hurt. They DO have a right to freedom of speech and freedom of religion. The Rabbi exercised both in this situation. He has the right to sue, yes, but bringing such a frivilous complaint before the court is the type of thing that is destroying this country and preventing the judicial system from dealing with legitimate complaints and actually being able to perform it's primary function, the pursuit of justice. US citizens, in the northwest especially, have become too used to being catered too by the government, and having everyone jump through unnecessary hoops on their slightest whim. There need to be people with some spine in charge of these things to tell complaintants such as these to suck it up, deal with it, and by the way, Merry Christmas!
It is a shame that one individual complainer plus one public employee could destroy the festive atmosphere of our Christian heritage at this time of the year. I hope they get their morbid satisfaction out of their mean actions.
Nationally a Christmas tree is NOT viewed as a religious symbol...that would include things depicting the birth of Christ such as a nativity scene. I say put the trees back up!!!!
It just goes to show you how ignorant this rabbi and other non-Christians are.
The NATIVITY is the CHRISTIAN symbol for the birth of Christ...not the Christmas Tree and Santa.
I am sick of being told by a few how I must think, talk, and feel! This is America...the UNITED STATES! The United States is a CHRISTIAN country! This country was founded on Christian principals! If someone migrates from their oppressed country to find a better life, don't try to turn our country into what you ran from!!!
The Christmas tree is religious? Hmm, that is funny, because I have never been to a church in my life, I have never said a prayer in my life, and I do not believe in God or Jesus; but I have decorated a tree every year of my life, and Santa Claus has always been the guy to turn to during this time of year. Every religion is just a slightly altered version or combination of all other religions, there is not unique religion that does not share at least one common factor. I sure enjoy holidays, including Christmas, no matter where they came from. I enjoy spending time with my loved ones and getting together to enjoy food and conversation. I enjoy the festivities of the majority in the US, because it is part of the US tradition and heritage. We are falling apart as a nation, and there is nothing UNITED about us any longer. If I moved to another country, it would be expected that I assimilate to their traditions and values, but how dare we have the same expectations of others in our own country. When we vote for our president, the majority wins. I was not happy at all with that selection, but I assure you all of my complaints and threats of legal action would never lead to a reversal. This country is becoming a disgrace, we simply are not able to meet the needs and wants for everyone. There are thousands of religions practiced in many thousands of rituals. Why is it so difficult to simply celebrate Christmas for what it means beyond Christianity, even if it is plain commercialism. Perhaps, we as the United States, should consider making up a new Christmas Celebration that is unique to the US and to all that live here, so religion would not get in the way; oh wait, we already do that, by not celebrating it at all anymore. Well, at least one group will be happy with that - Go Jehovah!
The Port overreacted, which is exactly what the rabbi wanted. He wanted to make a big issue out of what he wanted - and was not concerned with what anyone else felt. He has made a national issue about how mistreated the Jews are, and his "surprise" at the actions of the Port is laughable. Since it is expensive to set up and take down the trees, leave the trees down...and no menorah either. Ever.
Absolutly, put the trees back where they belong. Sea Tac serves a huge number of people with many different beliefs. We can certainly find a place for a Menorah too. All this fuss over Christmas trees. I wonder what the airport officials would do If my pastor demanded a area to set up a Nativity scene!
Lets all remember what Christmas is really about.
Sad as we see basic traditional american values taken away a little at a time by the PC fanatics and attitudes that are destroying our country.
Sea-Tac executives are pathetic and to politically correct to see how they are mere puppets and have lost the sense of reality and basic common sense regarding removal of the Christmas trees.
They are individually weak and don't even know nor care as they are corporate and enlightened so any comments will fall on deaf ears , their ears of arrogance.
America is becoming a completely wimpy country when anyone complains or isn't appeased they shout Lawsuit and no one has the Balls to stand up to them and tell them to get a life ,bring on the lawsuit.
Where is the ACLU to defend the Airports right to express their Christmas The way they want.
Sure...ACLU.....right.
I think that if the rabbi or anyone else does'nt like our ways of life ,our traditions and customs, that he or she should go back to wherever they came from so they can enjoy there own ways of life, traditions and customs in there own country, instead of trying to take ours away from us,and force us to learn there's.The tree's should go back up!! This is our tradition and way of life for hundred's of years. We should'nt change it because some rabbi disagree's with. it.
This is REALLY crazy. I'd like to know the percentage of Americans that treat Christmas as a religious holiday.
It's not like the airport had a Nativity setup. They were trees with bows on them. I'm also guessing there were no signs mentioning Jesus or anything to do with Christianity.
I am not Christian. I do not believe in God. But, I do still open presents from under a tree. I do still tell my kid about Santa.
Next someone will demand we take down the American flags on the 4th unless we put up their country's flag.
This is America, we're a Christian nation, our government recognizes Christmas. Christmas trees go with Christmas.
As someone else said, the vocal minority wins again. If we don't bend over for them, we are 'intolerant'.
Someone post a picture and the identity of the rabbi.
Once again 2% of the US population is telling 98%
what to do-ain't it enough they run the government,Hollywood, the big Media, the "Federal Reserve"(actually private banks),and AIPAC lords it over our Senate and
House?? AND oh yes,the Iraq war is for ISRAEL and
OIL, IN THAT ORDER.
Disgusted in N.H.
IT IS NOT THAT I AM INSENSITIVE TO ANY RELIGION OR NATIONALITY I LOVE AND RESPECT ALL PEOPLE, BUT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES WE TRY SO HARD TO BE "POLITICALLY CORRECT" AS TO NOT OFFEND ANYONE THAT WE SOMETIMES GO OVERBOARD, I FEEL IT SHOULD BE HANDLED LIKE THIS, EVEN THOUGH I RESPECT THE RABBI I MUST SAY THAT IN THE UNITED STATES DISPLAYING THE CHRISTMAS TREE IS A CHRISTIAN RITUAL JUST AS DISPLAYING THE MENNORAH IS A JEWISH RITUAL, SO I FEEL WHEN PEOPLE FROM OTHER COUNTRIES DECIDE TO COME TO THE UNITED STATES THEY SHOULD KNOW THAT THEY WILL NEED TO ADAPT TO "OUR" CUSTOMS AND RITUALS. LET THE RABBI DISPLAY THE MENNORAH IN HIS HOME OR COMMUNITY, HIS CONCERN IS MORE PERSONAL. I WOULD NEVER GO TO JERUSELUM AND EXPECT THEM TO DISPLAY A CHRISTMAS TREE TO SATISFY MY PERSONAL FEELING, I WOULD RESPECT THEIR CUSTOMS AND RITUALS. HE IS IN THE UNITED STATES.....THE CHRISTMAS TREE IS OUR CUSTOM. THE PORT OF SEATTLE SHOULD PUT ALL THE CHRISTMAS TREES BACK UP.

Disgusted in N.H.
You know those commercials they run called "Sea-Tac Solutions"... I think they are just getting material for the next one.
I find it unusual that a Rabbi has it in his heart to attack another religion in such a frivolous manner. Attorneys and their blown-up big heads and the good ole boy relationships with judges have done one heck of a job making this a country for the few and not for the many. This is America and DECORATING TREES IS WHAT WE DO IN DECEMBER - AND WE CALL THEM CHRISTMAS TREES. A menorah is described in the dictionary as having seven branches. Our tree just has a few more branches. Candles on trees were the first Christmas trees, due to safety, lights are now the mode. Candles on seven branches of a menorah is what the Jewish do and continue to do. People come to live in America for our idea of freedom. However, those very same immigrant groups and their attorneys and representatives are threatening the whole idea of freedom that our forefathers envisioned. Decorating trees at Christmas is what we do in America. Do not let one person and his greedy attorney erode our freedom. This is happening way too much in America. We all need to be much more patriotic and stand up for the American way.
Shame on the Port Authority for making this decision on behalf of millions of people, both the people who live in the area and all the travelers. Christmas is celebrated around the entire earth not just at SEA-TAC. However, the menorah should also be placed appropriately.
I demand that ALL shopping malls either setup an area where the Jewish kids can sit on Hannukah Harry's lap or remove all of the Santa's.
They have 2 days to comply. Or, I am going to sue.
The best part is that the attorney will not have the opportunity to make any money on this. What a waste of resources. Merry Christmas everyone.
Hey, Rabbi, call the White House and demand a giant Menorah be put up right next to the White House Christmas Tree, or else....
Reconsider their decision? What decision? This was done on a whim without review. First, to threaten lawsuit is outrageous. Put the trees back up. We are considered the "evergreen state".
Merry Christmas, Rabbi Grinch !
I am embarassed for Jewish people for having this nitwit for a rabbi. He had to know that forcing the airport to make a decision would open the door to something they couldn't accomodate in a short peoriod of time, and that makes his dishonest. If he truly DIDN'T know, then he's an idiot. There is no excuse for playing innocent after making a threat. He should be ashamed.
What would Jesus do? The answer is easy. Jesus celebrated Hanukkah (John 10:22-3). He used a menorah, not a tree. The Christmas tree is an invented tradition that only dates back about 150 years in the US. Check it out. Other than the obvious bigotry in many of the posts, what is your problem? All the Rabbi wanted was one space, not nine spaces to put up a menorah, no bigger than the trees, that he would supply and put up. It is done all over the country including military hospitals. He asked back in October and was stonewalled by the airport authority. That cultural anthropologist bit is plain garbage. Put up Kwaanza lights and everything is covered. Easy.
Why do we americans continue to cave in to this type of bull? this rabbi can go fish if he does not like the christmas tree. this is america and yes we do believe in Christ and Christmas.one nation under God....
I demand that from now on American women must wear burkas in Sea Tac airport.
It is insensitive to my people that we are forced to see women.
Our country and our people are becaming idiotic
every day,one man can destroy Christmas idea that existed for years.
Can we just stop caving to the minority opinions here!! I'm getting so tired of a few people trying to change to ways of many. If I lived somewhere where most people did not celebrate Christmas I would not, under threat of litigation, try to force my beliefs on them!! This PC stuff is getting way out of hand! Pretty soon we will not be able to do or say anything - is that really what we want? Or do we want the freedom to enjoy what the traditions and celebrations of our country have been for many years?
Some how I missed the word Christmas Tree in the bible. I don't recall it being a sign of a religion but more a sign of a holiday that people get to go out spend money at our local stores... wrap up the items and give them to the ones we love.
If the Rabbi was a educated man he would have known that Santa Claus doesn't really live at the north pole and that there is a difference between a cross and a tree.
SEA-TAC's holiday trees were decorated without angels, stars or anything that could be construed as religious and therefore were secular expressions of holiday joy. They helped brighten and add cheer to the environment for passengers and airport employees with their lights during a dark & dreary time of year; something "Christmas" lights are known for. PLEASE bring them back.
The Port of Seattle should have had more courage in facing the threat of a rabbi who wanted to make a religious expression out of a secular situation.
The Jewish community should feel shame that this rabbi would attack SEA-TAC's secular expression of a U.S. holiday and try to force the inclusion of a menorah. The Seattle area has shown a lot of support to that community during anti-Semitic events. I fear that support will now diminish. And I will remember who caused this aggravation and darkened my holiday when I choose the stores and jewelers to purchase CHRISTMAS gifts from.
My father helped liberate Auschwitz in the closing days of World War II. An emaciated, thin Jewish man noticeing the cross he wore around his neck told him "Thank you. But one day my decendants will make airports around America remove your Christmas trees. Your schools will no longer have Christmas plays or mention Jesus in prayer. Nativity scenes will be outlawed across your land. But thank you for liberating me anyway".
Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
The above is the first sentence of the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Where in this sentence is there a lawsuit over a Christmas tree in a public building??? Where also does it state specifically that every religion must be given equal or, for that matter, any recognition???
Someone forgot to tell the parties involved that Christmas Trees are not Christian in origin, and that when they ARE used in church, they are decorated with Christian symbols not elves and reindeer or colored lights. They are as "Christian" as jack-0-lanterns for All Hallow's Eve, but they ARE lovely and cheery.
The Menorah IS, however, a Jewish AND a Christian symbol. St John the Divine, in the Book of Revelation, states that it stands near the throne of God in Heaven. Let's everybody relax and ENJOY the holidays with joy, cheer, good will and fun!
I think that people should enjoy the festivity of the holiday and stop worrying about the "spirituality" of the entire thing. People are usually in a festive mood, more apt to open doors, let you in during traffic, and more susceptible to smiling at one another. This, my fellow Americans, is not a bad thing. We need to take the essence of Christmas and focus on that, which to me is giving and not receiving; but most of all, love and not hate.
What surprises me is the fact that people are wasting their time complaining about this but no one is doing anything. The reason they get everything they want is because WE let them. The only thing we need to do is give an unanimous NO MORE and show them we mean business. Political correctness infringes on human rights.
I think they should put the trees back up. They are not the true meaning of Christmas anyway. If the Rabbi gets his way and they put up a Menorah then they need to put a manger scene too, which is the true meaning of Christmas anyway. Merry Christmas
I didn't realize King5 blog was a forum for hate.
Being Jewish, I have no problem with Christmas trees in public spaces. I actually enjoy them. However, morons who write about needing Hitler (and Mel Gibson for that matter) should be lobotomized.
What do the people want? Sounds simple, doesn't it? I would guess that they would like to have the trees. But then again, polical correctness must raise its ugly ahead again, and oh my goodness, someone gets offend. Please! Let the offended find their own country where they will be happily unoffended. This is the good ole US of A, where the people's voices should be heard, and from what I have seen, "Bring back the trees!"
Leave the trees down............I agreed with the original decision by the port..........they chose not to waste money and time as they refused to be threatened and manipulated. I, and many others I know, are sick of all the religion games. Just get over it!Worship as you please and stop forcing your beliefs on others........thanks, s
Trees are not a religious symbol! Menorah's are! If he gets his Menorah we get our cross's or mangers scenes! The Kent school district tried to do something similar a few years back and the parents were outraged! They had many town meetings with hundreds of people that showed up that were FED UP! I hope people will start getting tired of this garbage and stand up and let your voice be heard!
You mean to say that the Rabbi finally figured out that, (after 25 years no less), the airport has Christmas trees and that his wish is to impose his will, (via a lawsuit no less), and have Menorah's installed next to the Christmas trees?
Don't worry Rabbi, no one will consider the Jews as a group to be the Grinch here (well, except for the racist few who do anyways). We will however, ALL think of you that way... or more accurately, as a PUTZ!
Christmas is a time of joy ---a time when we want to believe in miracles ----a time of sharing. I wish the Rabbi could have just looked at the Christmas Trees as the objects they were ---things of beauty. They bring joy to the hearts of children of all ages --- lights have facinated me since I was a small child. For me any night it is pure joy to overlook downtown and just feast your eyes on the splendor of the lights ---this time of year it is a banquet. A message to the Rabbi---you could create a miracle by making it a priority to replace the trees at your expense. Show the city of Seattle how great your capacity is for understanding. In this troubled world we do not need to take joy away from others ---this isn't about religion --- it's about common decency in respecting age old customs. Santa has nothing to do with religion ---please don't take him away from us next.
MERRY CHRISTMAS to all ---and to all a good night!
Gail
Rabbi...this is AMERICA !! We celebrate AMERICAN TRADITIONS...why do we have to honor your (one rabbi') wishes ?? Take YOUR "traditions" and...."pound sand". Oops...could be a double meaning there !!
Sea-Tac administration...SHAME ON YOU for letting this "outrageous request" happen.
A "female" administrator AND a "female" US Senator embarrassing the State of Washington...AGAIN !!
I'm going to sue to have the Rabbi shave, as a person who shaves every day, that Beard offends me.
Put the trees back up!
I cannot believe this is an issue at Christmas time.
Do you really think they would have Christianity represented in a country where the majority isn't? I only hope that as a Christian nation someone will put a stop to the stupidity.
The nation was founded by Christians not Jews or Muslins or Buddists.
Give me a break! I'm quite sure if I went to Isreal or Jordan or Iraq or Iran or Mongolia for that matter that they wouldn't bend over backwards to accomodate my religious beliefs and certainly wouldn't take down their Mennorahs or redecorate their mosques or put up a Christmas tree in townsquare, so what makes them think we should in America? This country was founded on christian beliefs and last I checked, freedom from religious persecution or did I miss something? If people of other countries and religious beliefs are offended by our customs perhaps they should GO HOME!
FIRST OF All, CHRISTMAS IS CELEBRATED FOR THE BIRTHDAY OF JESUS CHRIST WHO THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD AND THE SON OF GOD. THE CHRISTMAS TREE IS NOT THE TRUE SYMBOL NOR MEANING OF CHRISTMAS. I BELIEVE THAT THE MANGER SHOULD BE BE DISPLAYED IN ALL MALLS AND STORES. THIS TRADITION WHICH HAD EXPLEMPLIFIED THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS WAS STOPPED BY A SECULAR SOCIETY MANY YEARS AGO, BECAUSE THIS WAS NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT.
A Christmas tree, while a holiday decoration, is not a religious symbol. A nativity scene would be a religious Christmas symbol. If a menorah is allowed at the airport, then the airport must also display a nativity scene.
This rabbi threatens the Port of Seattle with a lawsuit, then is surprised when they comply with his demand? What a bunch of pure crap! It's representation like this that casts a bad light on all people of the Jewish faith. Rather than proud, this man should be ashamed of himself. He owes us all, Christian, Jew, etc., one big apology.
What the heck is menorah...The port manager must be Jewish too.
The Nativity Scene is to a Christian Holiday as the menorah is to Jewish multiple holidays.
Our leaders are causing the fall of our country by listening to loudmouths rather than reason!
We have kids carrying guns to school because we are told not to recite the Our Father before school anymore. Ever since Christ has been taken out of the Courts, people don't feel there is a consequence for lying on the stand. I even heard someone state, in court, that since there is no Bible to swear on, and you don't have to say "so help me, God", you don't have to tell the truth.
Since when is faith so unimportant that it relies on the simple juxtaposition of another symbol of consumerism to carry on it's own misguided message? Since when did the Christmas tree become a symbol of Christianity? The menorah is a close to the Jewish faith as the Star of David. The Christmas tree if anything is the anti-symbol of Christianity, it's the symbol of consumerism gone wild, crowded parking lots, riots for PS3, stolen toys for the needy, fights with the in-laws and not the true spirit, meaning and love of Christmas, the birth of our beloved and righteous Santy Clause.
You have got to be kidding! Put them back up! I guess someone had it right, The rights of a few outweigh the rights of many!
I can only say that once again a person forgot the old adage. Be careful what you wish for, you may get it.
If Jesus Christ had not been born you would not be as busy this time of the year. The majority of your travelers (I am a former Travel Agent and Travel Agency Owner)are traveling because of Christmas. So if you are making the most of your money on this Birthday Celebration what's the problem in honoring the Birthday. Futhermore what's the big deal about honoring the honoree, using His Name and all about Him be it a lighted tree called - Christmas Tree. If He had not been born you would be lost not only financially but spiritually. We are such a great country we want to be sure not to step on those who are guests in our country and maybe even have become citizens. If you decide to visit or live here then don't offend those with whom you are visiting or living.

Totally over the top. Apparently the Port Authority hasn't enough to do. Replace all of them with people who can think clearly. Suggest the Rabbi wear a menorah suit and he can walk around with the guy wearing the tree suit. This has turned into a silly joke around the country. We live in the evergreen state and they remove the trees.
Have the Rabbi display the Menorah, give us a Nativity Scene and put Christ back into Christmas where He belongs. If anyone is offended, they can stay home until January. Arlene
Having just heard/read of this and being Jewish myself, I am amazed that this idiot of a Rabbi attempted this. What did he think was going to happen when he threatened to sue? Besides going to great lengths to make Jews look like idiots, this numb skull Rabbi makes himself look even more foolish by being SHOCKED that the airport decided to take the trees down. And the trees are symbolic of the holiday not the religion! If I was a member of his Temple, I'd personally go up to him and tell him what a jerk he is and stop going to his synagogue.
Put the Christmas Trees back up at the airport.
Bring back the trees!
Why were the trees taken down and not the wreaths? Christmas trees are NOT religious symbols. Put the back up and if someone wants another holiday symbol, it's a BIG airport!
This is just another case of a religious zeolot attempting to *FORCE* their views upon others... and then being "shocked and appalled" when harmony is disrupted.
Look around... it is this constant push religious zeolots to force their beliefs on others that has this world in such a mess. It's too bad the Rabbi could not see that his aggressive actions are just another small part of the problem. But then such people rarely do...
I don't think what has gone on needs to be blown out of proportion. I am a catholic, and believe that everyone should be allowed to display their religious holiday. I do not believe, however, that any one person should do what the rabbi did. It was reprehensible. To threaten to sue in order to have his menora displayed at an airport, let me say that again, he was threatening to sue because they wouldnt display a menora at AN AIRPORT!! Rabbi, I think you need to get a life darlin and "QUIT SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF" and stop being so petty. and btw, I personally dont believe that all jewish people are like you. You are obviously just a jerk, in any religion,
I think it is shameful that the Abrahamic religions just can't get along. It is one of the reasons I turned to Wicca. Wicca is the revitalization of a religion that abounded long before the Abrahamic religions and we celebrated Winter Solstice long before the Christians usurped our celebration but you don't see us out there demanding that a pentacle be erected to reperesent our holy day. Besides, those of us who are educated about such things know that the Christmas tree is not really Christian. It is a pagan symbol.
"Holiday trees" have been used since the early Roman and Egyptian civilizations. The trees, in many different forms, are found world-wide today. The decision to take down the trees indicates to me a further weakening U.S. Take the easy road; there's no conflict.

Christmas trees are NOT religious objects in modern day Christianity! They were originally a pagan tradition, adapted later by the Germans. If there were crosses at the airport, I could see the rabbi's point, but he is comparing apples and oranges and trying to stir up trouble. Well, I guess he succeeded. It's really sad. But if the port had done their homework they could have easily answered with the fact that the trees are not Christian symbols, they are a cultural tradition that was adapted to Christian thought at one point, then adapted once again to be a decoration enjoyed by all countrymen. Please put them back! This is ridiculous!
I will be travelling again to Israel soon. Lets see what happens when I do not find Christmas symbology near the menorahs etc. More after the event. Enough is enough.
I am so very tired and disgusted with people who are only living here thanks to the the specific reasons of why this country is SO wonderful, and then they spend their time trying to dismantle our unique framework. Our founding fathers had a vision that has served us well. It is sickening how the few think their voice should override our origins...get real, and quit creating issues that will wear out your welcome, and bring the quiet masses to the forefront to stand and fight to keep the values that allow you to be here in the first place! GOD BLESS AMERICA
I think all Christians in Seattle, should find out where this rabbi lives and file a law suit against him, personally, for interfering and suppression of my/our right to decorate as we wish.
What is wrong with the heads at the Port of Seattle? Have they lost their minds? The gentleman had a very simple and not unreasonable request. Put up a Menorah next to the Christmas tree. So why didn't they just do that? It was not the person who made the request nor his attorney that turned this into a mess, it was the Port of Seattle and their ridiculous overreaction. It's embarrassing to be from Seattle right now.
Everyone is missing the big point. Our Port commissioners are overworked and underpaid. Lets give them more money and more time off. With that it would enable them to make rational decisions. (maybe)
I SAY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BELIEVE IN JESUS OR GOD TO HAVE A HOLIDAY. A CHRISTMAS TREE IS A ONCE A YEAR TRADITION. IT'S FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN. IT DOESN'T PROMOTE VIOLENCE, OR EVEN RELIGION. I THINK WE SHOULD ALL STAND UP FOR ARE RIGHTS BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.
CAN'T PEOPLE JUST BE HAPPY THEY ARE ALIVE?
The port should change their decision and get the trees back up. We celebrate this time of year with trees, lights and decorations and be festive. It's not exclusive to Christians and the solstice celebration and trees predates Christianity. Even though most people think of it as a Christian Holiday, and I'm not a Christian, but what's wrong with the rest of us also join and celebrate together? I love Christmas trees and I want them back!
I WAS tolerant of the Muslim religon until 9/11 when I understood that Mohammed wanted all Christians dead or converted. I had no issue with the Jewish religion either. Now the Jews want to destroy the Christmas season. I am so sorry, but they are now lumped in with the Arabs as being anti-American in my mind.
This rabbi has done more to damage the jewish people than anything I cam imagine. I fully expect that there has been a surge in the new Natzi party's membership roster in the Seattle area.
Wow - this is news even on the East Coast! I recently moved here from Seattle and this is on the talk shows out here. Put the trees back up. This is huge - if the Port of Seattle gives in, it will open this issue up all over the country and anything with the words Christmas in it will be in jeopardy. Has the Rabbi threatened to sue White House or Rockefeller Center?
If that rabbi" do not likes the christmas trees!
go BACK to your country!!
this is the USA and move out!!
this is not a jewish state or country!!
give me a break!! to much crap, we are bowing down to! because of all the different races, that live in this country!!
and above all!! speak English!
Wow, just as Jewish people everywhere were becoming more and more accepted and understood, just as anti-Semitism was on the decline, this rabbi decides he knows what's best for everyone.
Can't people COUNTER-SUE for this idiot rabbi's insensitivity to other's religion? Seems he's FAR more guilty of what he accuses.
What a hypocritical jerk ! Take all those trees and throw them outside his house as a protest to his nonsense. He can then place his menorah along side
the discarded trees.
Threats of litigation rule our society. Want to fix things, penalize the lawyers for frivolous law suits. WILL NEVER HAPPEN. Our country is history. Enjoy the tree in your house, won't be long before that is sueable also.
Have we all forgotten that Jesus was born a JEW, lived as a JEW and died a JEW? "Christianity" came about 60 or so years later.
I'm a Christian. I do not think the evergreen tree is a Christian symbol. Quite frankly, I think the Port did the right thing. Bravo! By removing the trees, they let this Rabbi learn a powerful lesson. You won't always get your way when you threaten to sue. He got what he desired. Now let him live with the consequences.
"Rabbi Elazar Bogomilsky works at Chabad Lubavitch, a Jewish education foundation headquartered in Seattle's University District."
You know where to send that hate mail . . . .
The Christmas Tree is a part of our American culture - it is not a religious symbol. I am disgusted with the rabbi and disappointed with the Port of Seattle. Put the trees back up !!!
once again the feeling of the few outweight the majority. good for the airport, let the rabbi go after someone else for his money. airport should put his picture, address and phone number up so public can chat with his sorry a--.
The person in charge of PR at the airport needs her head examined. Since when does one person control what many, many others see and enjoy. Christmas is a national holiday and perhaps if more of the "Christ" was in the meaning for people - the horrible actions reported everyday would not be happening. The airport leadership members are whimps and let one person cloud thier judgement and eliminate something that many of thier "customers" would enjoy and expect this time of the year. If a tree is a problem - they have many more issues they need to deal with.
Put the trees back up and dont let anyone say we cannot have them up. IF we have to have all the other religous and other sects put their writing on the wall so to speak, then let us put our crosses and trees in all their churches and homes too. Good Grief. In the little 55 years I have been alive in my home of the USA, things are getting out of control. The more that move here the more they want us to change all we have and believe. sigh, so depressing, and one person said it right. Instead of complaining about some trees in the airport, find some people to help out this christmas. We have tons, just in our country alone.
Shame, Shame on the Rabbi. Christmas is a national holiday and the tree is it's symbol. There are no crosses or angels or any other ornaments signifying a religion. The tree belongs to everyone. Is that what you teach your members of the temple, to go around and threaten to sue if they don't like something? WISE UP. Where's the good will towards men?????
If the man Jesus of Bethlehem was alive today he would most likely celebrate Chanukah for he was Jewish. And like me would not be able to even go to Wal*Mart to buy a Menorah (they simply don’t sell them). When a lot of Christians are taught about Christmas its through Christmas trees and Santa Clause, maybe it’s easier than religious teachings and they don’t think of it as religious. Yet most practicing Jews and others look at the Christmas tree as a religious alter and a pagan symbol. Where talking about ‘a public international Airport ‘.Instead of allowing Jews a chance to place an electric Menorah for the upcoming Chanukah holidays, the international airport choose to take down the tree. And it should stay down. Or they should recognize all religions ceremonial rituals. What if America only recognized the worlds most popular religion? Christianity would have to accept the world’s population majority religion is now Muslim. Once I was assaulted for wearing the Star of David in the South Hill Mall. And have had me personal property damaged for trying to show outwardly my beliefs. So I chose not to disrespect other religions by showing my own. There are no holiday decorations at my home. And as a Jew in a public place why must I see these alters and symbols? As I’m sure Christians do not want to go to airports and public places and see statues worshiping Buda, Or Allah, voodoo, Witchcraft and etc.etc.etc, while Christianity is not represented. Will there be churches like my Synagagogues and Temples that tonight must tighten up security and be fearful? In W.W. II, 7 million Jews died for our religion yet our religion has persevered for 5700 years. Most practicing Muslims see Jews and Christians as Infidels who must die also. . So… Christians weren’t only denied there tree. Jews where denied there Menorahs. Religion and there symbols may be everything to some people and meaningless to others. Some of you may only be worried about a tree. And others are worried about the symbol and our well being. -Peace
The trees are an ancient ritual that has been handed down and has nothing to do with religion or deep philosophy. It may have been picked up by many faiths but is merely a celebration of winter. Enough
For all those who got alittle confused, th Rabbi didn't ask for the Christmas trees to be taken down! Doesn't bother him all he was asking for was one Menorah, (and yes, that he would provide)
just like the Jews don't mind the christmas trees, the Christians should mind a menorah!
Should the Port Authority reinstate the trees? Well, DUH!
The Christmas Tree is a secular symbol. If he wants a menorah up there, then Christians should have a nativity added as well. Clearly, the Rabbi KNOWS that the Christmas tree is a secular image, which is why he is backpeddling so hard now that they have taken the trees down. He doesn't want the Jewish community to be seen as Scrooge - but he IS the Scrooge. Christmas trees have ZERO significance to Christianity or Christ's birth - they are a cultural tradition not a religious tradition. If he gets his menorah, I hope that local pastors will request a nativity to be displayed.
Jesus was a Jew. Why cant Christians see that? Jesus would have approved of the mennoria by the christmas tree at the airport. although I am not sure if he would have killed a tree chopped it down and decorate and take it in to his own home and then threatend the Jews and Rabbis for the airport deciding to remove a tree.. Then thought he was right.
Instead of threatening to sue, the so-called Rabbi should have consulted the All Mighty and prayed about the situation. What a poor representation of the Jewish community. People need to think before they act!
What a horses ass...the Rabbi should pay to put the trees back up...Did he get what he wanted by threatening to sue??? What great publicity he and his religion have recieved over his threats..
Disgusting...put the tress up..
Let us retreat to the forest and seek a new beginning...
The Christmas tree has it's roots in Germanic tribal history. The only reason that today it is associated with Christmas, is from the 'Christian-ization' of an old pagan custom, when the Catholic church was working on the conversion of Europe. The tree was likened to the holy trinity. Much like in Ireland when St. Patrick taught the pagan groups there about the trinity through the use of the shamrock. Before anyone tries to say I am bashing Catholicism, I am a confirmed Catholic. The hate that keeps being tossed around here needs to stop. This is supposed to be a joyous and giving time. Instead, every 'holier than thou' view, both religious and secular, is being vented. The trees should go back up. People should learn to leave well enough alone, and not voice every little annoyance that comes to mind. Saying putting up a Christmas tree offends the religious sensiblities of anyone who is not Christian, is like calling someone a racist for being in favor of deporting illegal immigrants. It's ridiculous.
Our wonderful country going to be taken over without a shot being fired....we're handing it over in order to not offend anyone........
What a total load!! I guess Christmas trees will be banned from individual homes next.
I say keep the trees at whatever cost. And I agree with another who posted: If a menorah goes up, put a nativity scene up. Wow, at a time when anti-semitism seems to have a rocket-like trajectory upward, what was this guy thinking?
One more reason why we shouldn't help Israel anymore...just let Iran and Syria take care of them once and for all.
First off, why couldn't SeaTac fork out the dough for a menorah? Tiny little Palm Springs airport has put up both a tree and a menorah every year for the 7 years I've been traveling in and out of it. If they can afford one, why can't Sea Tac?
I have studied only a little of religious practices, but the one thing that I have found in most, "there is only one law, the law of love" patience is a virtue,
I guess this rabbi wants more to be of the militant side of the world than the loveing,
GOD fearing side
Put the trees back! What it symbolizes is America, its economy, its people, its way of life. Love it or leave it, just don't threaten it. Remember, you're walking on the land of the U.S.A. I LOVE AMERICA!
"There is a concern here that the Jewish community will be portrayed as the Grinch.
well.....?
sobeit.
Guess I'm Pro American and Anti a lot of things these days. Why are we letting all these religious freaks dictate their religious ideas on our beautiful country? Take a look at all these countries and realize that their religion is their government and their government is their reliion. Please don't let this culture become the new America. Use some common sense. America is too beautiful to bow to these few. Merry Christmas
stupid Christians...Didnt you watch the Da Vinci code... Jesus was only a man why dont you celebrate Moses, Adam, Or Abraham birthday? why cant Jews celebrate the festivle of lights by lighting menorahs like Jesus would have done. Selfish christians always think your right. your self endulgent rude have no manners mean and visious. thats it blame the jews you always have instead of realizing youtr own faults
The Christmas tree is not the symbol of Christ any more than Santa is. It is a festive icon of family tradition in America. What would happen if we went to the holy land and demanded they take down all of their menorahs? I know, maybe we should outlaw all of the Santas in this country too and put them out of a job! WHO IS THIS GUY? Doesn't he have anything better to do with his congregation's money than hire a lawyer?
I see it this way... This is our country and we can do what we choose. If people are offended of how christmas is celebrated here In the USA, then turn your head and don't participate. If we were to go to other countries, we respect what they believe in, an if we don't "THEN YOU WALK AWAY and KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT" - LEAVE CHRISTMAS ALONE !!!!!!
One man controls about 80% of the population. Who does he think he is to pull such a stunt. Maybe a good thumping in the court would make him change his mind. Lets stick with Christmas Trees
Another case of caving in to a small minority. When will the majority decide to tell the winning minorities to "kiss our heinie". If they don't like it they can go back to wherever they think it's better. Like that will happen!
What the heck is a menorah?
I agree that all "religions" should have representation if people feel offended. Let people put up a darn nativity. Let people put up a Menorah. Just mind your own business if other people are doing it! If we continue to change all of these stupid small idiosyncra
