The speech of a lifetime

5:59 PM Thu, Aug 17, 2006 |

Tall, blond and handsome. Highly articulate with extensive acting experience. The football talent to be a star on the field and the acting talent to get the lead role in his school play.

But he also had the extremely bad luck of contracting Ewing's Sarcoma, a ravaging bone cancer. Though it couldn’t keep him from standing up at graduation and making the speech of a lifetime. It has, since that speech, sidelined him to a wheelchair.

He's 18-year-old Travis Britt, who just graduated from Kentridge High. I wish he could have that starring role in a movie. If you could have been there and experienced his speech at graduation, you would know why.

Watch an excerpt of his speech

Whether from a child or adult, cancer patient or not, Hollywood or Seattle, these lines are words to live by. This life has truly produced a star.
