In fact, the only good thing about this summer drawing to a close, is what's coming from the garden. Lavender. Lots of it. So much of it in fact that as I picked, and thought about my friend who has cancer, I thought, why not harvest it, sell it and raise money for a cure? That began the life of The Lavender Project. We've been picking, making sachets of lavender, bouquets of lavender and even came up with a new slogan: Harvest for a Cure. Esther's Fabric Store joined in. Frog Rock Lavender Farm generously signed on. HealthLink producers Pat Duggan and Joan Kinsey (pictured) harvested a haul of lavender. The project just took off. A good omen. So... Come join us Sunday at noon at Town and Country Market on Bainbridge island (which fields the single biggest team of runners every year in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure). We will be selling sachets for the cure and bouquets for the cure. It's a harvest for the cure. And it's a way you can help find a cure for cancer. See you there. Thank you. 5 Comments |

What a great project! Thank you so much, Jean, for all you give to the community. :)
Hi, I have approx 65 sachets of lavender that I recently havested & made sachets for. This is a good cause & I would like to donate them to this cause, if you would like them. Just let me know how to get them to you.
Thx,
Jan
Jean, As a former cancer patient, every time I see something like this it pains me. Does any of the money for the Komen Foundation go to alternative treatment or education on lifestyle choices to diminish one's chances of getting cancer? The whole cancer thing is very much based on supporting large pharmeceutical companies, chemotherapy and fear. I also hate the word cancer victim. Contrary to what many believe and the media promote, we are not helpless. Cancer is one disease. It is tragic and scary. I could have died, I know but I am fine for now and I feel very lucky. There are many diseases that cause far more suffering however. Please consider including in your event a focus away from fear and victims. Thanks, Joanne
Way to go Jean! You are an inspiration to all whose lives have been touched by yours. If we all would follow your example, the world would be a different place. Thank you.
