Iraq: Campaign 2006

4:23 PM Mon, Aug 21, 2006 |

Polls show Iraq to be an unpopular war. But President Bush vowed to stay the course close to a half-dozen times in a one-hour news conference Monday.

By now of course, Iraq no longer stands alone, but is a link in the Middle East chain that leads to Tehran and Iran's plans to "go nuclear". The question for voters may boil down to this: Would a U.S. pullout from Iraq start a "domino effect" that leads to Iran Shi'ite-backed Hezbollah recovering in Lebanon, then to Iran Shii'te-backed elements in Iraq becoming a de facto Iranian Shi'ite state-within-a-state which then in turn further empowers Iran to the point where it poses an unacceptable nuclear threat to Tel Aviv -- to London!

Under that scenario, simply "getting out of Iraq" -- once possible perhaps -- may now have evolved into a non-starter. Stay tuned.

First and foremost I have NO idea why we're there in the first place, Saddam was in the box after 1991. But now we're there and what have we accomplished that's good - NOTHING. We have managed to get all of the middle east and much of the western world against us. So we leave, Iraq will probably have a civil war, well they got one now but they have extra targets, our G.I's. Does anyone remember Vietnam ?? They said if we pulled out of there the Indo-China area would fall like dominoes into the Chinese Communist camp. Well the middle eastern countries are not all Shites with a Fatwah against the west. It stands to reason they would not allow Iran to take over the middle east. We certainly aren't holding any terrorists off in Iraq, since their goal is to destroy America. Its time we left and as far as I'm concerned leave Haliburton there. Move into Afghanistan and Pakistan and get Ossama, he leads the gang that hurt us and we owe him. If we leave Iraq now Saddam would get back in power and many of these false predictions would be just that false. As for Iran its a long way from the bomb and I believe political pressure by someone other than all hat and no-cattle Bush could defuse the situation.

You said it yourself. You said you don't understand why we are in Iraq, yet you follow up with statements like "their goal is to destroy America." I believe we are there to draw their fire in Iraq rather than here in our own country. What a frickin' mess that would be. And, also to ensure the trial of Saddam.

I am quite sick and tired of all of you so called "Americans" making a martyr out of Saddam. I am an American too, buddy, and I think we did right by taking him out of power. Iran and Korea should be next. The only problem is, is that the rst of the world thinks like you. "We can put up with a little terrorism rather than fight somebody."

What a bunch of scaredy cats. You cannot fight a war without people dying. Sad but true. You cannot eliminate the evil in this world without a fight. You cannot let evil people rule and use propeganda to fight their wars. And you, sir, are a victim of propeganda from the sounds of you. And you only listen to what you WANT to hear rather than listen to all sides of this issue. Try listening to Bush with an open minded attitude just once. Instead of listening like a hatefull, band-wagon riding yuppy. You and Don Porter should both do that.

Why not? Jack Murtha's plan to pull US troops out of Southeast Asia in 1975 led to the Communist taking power all over the region and starting a murdering hollocaust that claimed over 2 million lives.

Why yes they did! South Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and the cambodian Thai boarder.

These crying liberal monkies want us all to shed tears and go into an orgy of mourning over 9/11 and yet they never shed a single tear all the years, since Jimmy Carter handed Iran over to the Ayatollah Khomeni, since 1979 when American troops were being murdered by Islamo-fascists.

Sometimes I think it would be better to let America fail in this war and give it to the Islamo-fascists so these fat lazy liberals can really learn what its like not to have freedom for a change.

Don Porter is a joke this guy has such a apparent liberal agenda it is not even funny. I skip past his report of the war every time.

Top US general says Rumsfeld is inspired by God Top US general says Rumsfeld is inspired by God
The top US general defended the leadership of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, saying it is inspired by God.
"He leads in a way that the good Lord tells him is best for our country," said Marine General Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

So Rumsfeld is 'hearing voices' now and it's God who's talking to him? That explains much.

But at least "DOG" is our copilot.
Wake up sheeple.
Hey Dan, Hows the Koolaid?

I was watching King 5 on KREM channel 2 as it involved the ad wars leading up to the election. If the anchor was anything, he was fair and balanced in how he addressed the failures and facts of each ad. However, Chris Vance, etc. let their biases show. I wonder what polls he referred to that show how Democrats are "weak on defense?" He must have recently visited the RNC ultimate in Dem attack ad web site. Let's put it bluntly, that the Dems aren't any more weak on defense than the GOP. And actually, back when Clinton was obsessing on how best to get Osama bin Laden, the GOP were still obsessing over the sour grapes that their attempt to impeach a president over "moral issues" had failed. Nor would terrorism become a GOP exploitable issue, until after 9/11/2001. As Peter Goldmark was right to note, 9/11/2001 was actually preventable. The fact that it did happen was the lack of priority that Bush and the GOP placed on it. No, Ms. McMorris is actually wrong that America could ever be at fault for 9/11/2001. The fault for 9/11/2001 lay with those administrations that missed many opportunities to get bin Laden and act swiftly on FBI memos regarding terrorist cells operating in this country. America did not ask for 9/11/2001. But because Bush had become the blind anti-Clinton, he was way to slow to recognize the dangers of terrorism. With his open borders policies and quest to expand guest worker programs, he is still too slow to recognize the dangers that terrorism poses. The GOP attack ads do nothing more than deflect attention away from their own failures.

Read the whining from the neo-radicals Bush can do no wrong even when he is. Sorry to have to say this, I am a Republican, I am a conservative, I know all about what sorts of threats that terrorism really poses and no, you can not contain it or use our troops as cannon fodder to attract it to one front, such as Iraq. Since the invasion and subsequent war in Iraq, Turkey came under terrorist attack, British interests were the targets. Spain came under attack. Australia came under attack. Saudi Arabia came under attack. Canada came under substantial threat of attack. Great Britain came under attack. And with our open borders as noted in my prior post, how is this country not vulnerable to terrorist attack when those open borders are an open door for exploitation by the likes of Hezbollah and Hamas? Duly noted recently on CNN. Just because we fight them in Iraq doesn't mean we are safe from them in all other areas of the world. Just ask the surviving family of Pearl, dead reporter in Pakistan. Americans are always going to be a target, just ask that Embassy in Syria. Using our troops as cannon fodder against terrorists won't prevent the terrorists from attacking us anywhere they choose. You guys need to grow up. This is from a U.S. Army veteran, veteran of the cold war and who definitely knows that part of the tools of the cold war was terrorism itself. Neither do I have much use for Saddam Hussein. I'll agree with GW about taking the bad boy out. I'll disagree that GW was honest, or open about his real agenda.
