Most of the views are of the Cameron Creek watershed and peaks above with names like Gray Wolf Ridge, Blue Mountain and Mount Cameron. If you have a Washington State Gazeteer map book look on page 77 grid 6, A/B. We are surrounded by Hurricane Ridge to the northwest and the Buckhorn Wilderness on the southeast. Steep rocky slopes with snowmelt cascading to the valleys below make for a captivating view. Rounded glacial valleys in the distance, emerald lakes that you can’t take your eyes off long enough to find their name in the map, I want to be left here for the rest of the day. Even though the lighting is flat in a photographic sense the beauty is not muted. The landscape is a visual treat unlike anything we can make ourselves. Moose Lake and Deer Ridge below Mount Olympus in the distance. One only complaint though I'm sure it's not justified, I see all of these images on a video screen all of 5 inches in size, meanwhile just outside the window of Skyking is the real thing, pilot Mark Hansen has the best view in the house as he lines up shot after shot and I try to keep my attention inside on the viewfinder screen. Sometimes it's hard to not look up and you can tell as my pictures tend to wander from time to time. The final view of Hurrican Ridge visitor center and it's wide open parking lot saying to those who can, come and visit for the day, you'll be better for it. 3 Comments |
You must have gotten this on your trip to the fire north of Winthrop. Came through the Cascades in early June on route 20 on my way to Seattle. Stayed in Winthrop at a deleightful motel on a river bank there. Sorry I didn't get with you while there. The video is great. Thank you for letting us see what it is like up there. Some of that water is badly needed here in SD.

What is the chance of you doing a fly over of the Monte Cristo area east of Everett? It is a beautiful gem close by that is cleverly and slowly being taken over by the Forest Service. The road in is, and has been since it was first built, very difficult to maintain due to slides and erosion, and Snohomish County has declared it will not provide service any more. When access is lost the Forest Service will gobble up the land and another spot will disappear.
This old gold mining area is ripe with views and lots of local history and a video "sharing" with the public would be wonderful.
Thanks for the views of the Olympics.
