Get a bird's eye view of the Olympic Sculpture Park

Flying to and from the roof at KING 5, we often pass over the Seattle Art Museum's quickly developing Olympic Sculpture Park.

There is a flurry of activity and things are really taking shape. From the air you can see the unique zigzag pattern that stands out from the adjacent neighborhood.

Take an overhead look (video) as the grand opening draws near.

Opening weekend for the Olympic Sculpture Park will be Saturday and Sunday October 28th and 29th, 2006, just around the corner. Museum folks are planning a weekend long community celebration that will be free and open to the public.

The 9-acre Olympic Sculpture Park is touted as a major attraction, open and free to all. Residents and visitors will be given the opportunity to experience sculpture in an outdoor setting while enjoying the incredible views and beauty of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound waters.

The award winning z-shaped design for the park is becoming well known nationally and internationally. The main path zigzags down to Elliott Bay passing through four diverse ecological environments of native plants.

Works and special commissions by artists Louise Bourgeois, Richard Serra, Alexander Calder, Teresita Fernandez, Roy McMakin, Mark Dion and other leading contemporary artists will be integrated into the fabric of the park.

You have an opportunity to put your own name on part of this park by visiting SAM's website and pledging a donation. For a specific amount they will engrave your name on a steel railing known as the Olympic Outlook. Similar to the walkway bricks at the Pike Place Market.

One more exciting addition to the maturing landscape of this beautiful city of Seattle.
