We're used to little miracles performed every day at Seattle Children's Hospital. But for this story, there's no precedent. A little baby boy would be perhaps the youngest ever in the country to have a heart transplant... at the moment of birth! The mother's delivery by C-section is put off until the right donor heart is available. The call comes. The heart arrives by jet from Arizona packed in its tiny container filled with ice. It is a mismatched blood type -- but that too is part of making history -- as they flush out the original blood, infuse the blood type of the new heart and then begin the transplant.... Parents Stephanie and David Kienholz display rare courage to go through with such a groundbreaking procedure for their newborn son. And to speak with us about it while they and newborn Jonah are living on this knife's edge. They prove their generosity as well, knowing others will benefit from what is learned. We will take you to their small home in a timber town near Graham where seated with a somber new mom Stephanie and a bleary eyed dad David, Jonah's grandfather sums up the story best. He says Jonah will positively impact more people in his young life than many others do in a lifetime. We will also bring you right into the operating room at Children's. You will see little, newborn Jonah and listen to the doctors in the midst of this very rare and potentially lifesaving operation. Join us for a rare glimpse into tiny hearts and huge hopes for one more miracle. Watch Thursday on KING 5 News at 5 and 6:30 and the entire story on Evening Magazine at 7. 4 Comments |
I get goose bumps just thinking about this. Thank you Seattle Children's Hospital for everything you do. My God watch over this little miracle baby.

Jonah's grandfather was right. At his funeral he was referenced as the youngest ever missionary. He touched many people in the short 3 months he blessed our lives. Sadly he left us on June 19th 2006.
I just wanted to say thankyou for your comments and for the coverage on our little boys story.
Don't forget about us in the days to come. We are really going to need the support!
I love you Jonah!
Love, Mom
